Sorry to hear you're feeling down. My last day of work will be 12/31/06 (after 18 years my boss is retiring) and DH is a SAHD, but I've known this was coming for about 12 weeks so I've had some time to prepare. Still, Christmas is very hard. We have three DDs, 10, 8 and 5, and they tell me not to worry -- Santa will bring their presents and he also may bring us $$ to pay our bills. We did get them a few things for Christmas and also shopped at the thrift store for a few gently used toys as well as the Dollar Store. I'm not sure if shopping at a thrift store is an option for you, but I encourage you to consider it. I have warned my girls all along that I may soon be losing my job and, if so, we would have to tighten our belts even more.
I really like the idea of finding 5 things you're thankful for daily and especially like the idea of making those things into a Christmas garland. Imagine adding to it every year and looking back on previous years. I also like the idea of volunteering at a soup kitchen/homeless shelter. Or maybe visiting the elderly at a nursing home?
As panicked as I am now about losing my job, I know we'll be OK. DH and I have been through SOOOOO much together, this is just another chapter.
Hope you feel better soon and that your DH finds a job soon too!
