Little did I know how much my life was about to change. My husband and I experienced the incomparable joy of the birth of our second child.
Then, the fear when the doctors said something was wrong with his heart.
Then the sadness as he was transferred, away from me, to a bigger hospital.
The, the shock and disbelief when my husband called to tearfully tell me our beautiful baby had Down Syndrome and a serious heart defect.
Then, the grief of "losing" our "perfect" baby.
The decision, rashly made, that we would have no more children (obviously, we got over that one!)
The, finally, the next day, holding him and finding that mother's love that had been temporarily lost out of fear.
Now, many surgeries, diagnoses, diets, and doctors later, he is becoming a teen. My life has been a complete roller coaster. Lesson learned: beautiful things come in the most unexpected packages!
