It's an interesting list.

"If we teach small children, don’t tell us that our jobs are “so cute” and that you wish you could glue and color all day long." I have heard parents say this one. :sad2:

"Kids used to go out and play after school and resolve problems on their own. Now, with computers and TV, they lack the skills to communicate. They don’t know how to get past hurt feelings without telling the teacher and having her fix it." I think there's a lot of truth in that.

I took that one with a grain of salt. Kids will be kids.

Good! :goodvibes

and goodness the homework my 7yr old comes home with! :headache:she ONLY has 5 pages to do over the weekend... there hasn't been one day she hasn't had homework all year :teacher:

I’m not a marriage counselor. At parent-teacher conferences, let’s stick to Dakota’s progress, not how your husband won’t help you around the house.
I haven't had husband/wife issues, but I have many times had single parents come in to conferences and complain big time about the child's other parent. One father last year went on and on about how the mother was useless, unfit, etc. Very awkward moments.

Your child may be the center of your universe, but I have to share mine with 25 others.
Funny, I've actually posted this here on the DIS before. ;)
Kids dish on your secrets all the time—money, religion, politics, even Dad’s vasectomy.
Oh yeah, they sure do. Some times they tell me one on one, but other times they blurt things out in front of the whole class. Many times I've had to say to kids, "Do you think your mother would really want us all knowing that?" :rotfl:

I know kids blab about everything. In our case, they actually prompted the kids. My DD attends Catholic school. In the second grade they would ask the kids every Monday if they attended mass that weekend. If not, why not. When we had the parent meeting about First Communion, the priest listed reasons why people hadn't attended mass. He never attributed it to anyone in particular but everyone in the room had at least one excuse attributed to them. Ooops. We attended every Sunday after that. I didn't want to hear from the priest!!!

And I have a cousin that was a teacher. She counted down the number of days until summer - starting the first day of the school year. I could call her at any time and she could tell me the exact number of days left!! I learned from a young age that teachers crave vacation as much as the kids. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I can tell you too! I'm a teacher as well :teacher:

Yesterday was our 122nd day of school....there are 54 school days left

I didn't read this list but I used to teach 3rd grade. My co-teacher used to tell parents at Open House "If you promise to only believe half of what your kids come home and tell you about school, I promise to only believe half of what they come to school and tell me about home!"

Thanks! I'm just looking forward to spring break. 2 more weeks...10 more days...75 more hours....4500 more minutes.....270000 more seconds...not that I'm counting.

My aunt was a school teacher for many many years. The first day of school she would always send home a note that said " I won't believe everything that your child says about you if you don't believe everything your child says about me." :)

That's been in my signature line for years;) Parents would be absolutely shocked at some of the things they tell us.:lmao:

That one drives me crazy--i teach kindergarten and so many people say that I just babysit--I wish they could come in my classroom for a day!

I think anyone who teaches young children will have a special place in heaven. I love my children dearly, but there is NO WAY I could teach a classroom full of them!! God bless you all!

Teachers can't win. I don't assign homework on a normal basis, it's only what my kids don't finish in class. This is for a couple of reasons:

1.) I have at least 1 homeless student and many of my kids don't have a stable home life. Very often it comes to school unfinished.

2.) I teach kids with MR so I really need to watch them to make sure they are doing it correctly.

3.) I have kids who don't even take their backpacks or take home folders home. I have found them hidden in my classroom, left on the bus, etc. If they make it home, they don't make it back.

I have had parents to tell me they like that, and then I have had parents ask me to send home as much as I can in order to keep their kids in line when they are out of school. Honestly, that was the reason given. Not to help their kid with the skills- but to keep them out of trouble! You're darned if you do, darned if you don't.

You've got that right! I've had students tell me grandparents have died (they haven't), mom or dad have had all kinds of jobs they never held, I even had a student tell me their father was in prison. Boy were the parents surprised when that phone call was made and the father was sitting at home with the mom!

Oh no this is all homework. they do one side in class the other is even labeled homework by saxon so yes they get homework EVERY NIGHT. She (the first grader) even had home work over Christmas break.. no lie... :headache: and I'm sorry its not your job to keep them out of trouble at home.. that would be my job as a parent.. :goodvibes

I'm not a teacher but I do substitute and every time that I do I send a Prayer up to bless all teachers because there is no way I could do it full time. You have a class of 15 to 20 kids who are all at different learning abilities even if they are all in the same grade not to mention the emotional issues that some of them have.

Bless you! Bless you! Bless you!

That article irritated me.

I get tired of people comparing the importance of their jobs to the importance of someone else's (the one about the athletes making more money). Seriously, get over yourselves. You're not any more important than anyone else. If you don't think you make enough money, find a different career.

As for praising teachers for being able to deal with a classroom full of kids every day, etc... throughout any given day I see someone doing a job that I know I couldn't do, from the state trooper I pass on the highway to the waitress juggling a tray of food to the veterinarian telling someone their beloved pet isn't going to make it. And I'm willing to bet a lot of them couldn't do mine.

If we truly got paid what we were worth, we'd all be making the same amount of money.

I'm not bashing teachers... just annoyed with people who feel superior to others because their job is "so much more important".
