13 Things a Newbie Cruiser Learned

#4 Wow 2060 wasnt good. Not sure what your budget was, but we would never have a room that low.
To each his own on this. We just got off the Wonder last month, and were in 2088 and 2090, and loved the staterooms. Was not a budget issue in the slightest, but we have found that we prefer the lower decks, especially the ones with the large porthole window :) Just our personal preference - we look for deck 2 rooms whenever we book anymore.

Have you ever had a verandah?

Yup, and we never used it. We're not the type to sit out on the deck in the sun, and the view from the window is just as nice to be, and cooler. We go to Deck 4 when we want to sit on the deck and watch the waves, which was a whopping 1 time on this last trip :) If we were sailing Alaska, it'd probably be a different story. But in the Caribbean, the Ocean View room is definitely our preference.

I wasnt trying to be a jerk with the question, I was asking because you said price wasnt the issue.

I would much rather have the addition space and love being out on my veranda especially in the the morning...

Didn't think you were trying to be a jerk at all :) I know some people would kill for a veranda, and some don't care for them, and some don't care at all as long as they're on the boat! I'd take a verandah over an interior stateroom anyday, but I really just love the window and being able to look out at the water :) No window at all would just feel claustrophobic to me, though I'm willing to try it once! ;)

Same here! We have sailed with and without a verandah and prefer Deck 2 Oceanview!! We now book on opening day our favorite deck 2 cabin!!Aloha, Karen and Ron

I've been toying with a DCL and one thing that really keeps me from it is not really knowing what the 'additional expenses' will be. I know the ticket covers room and board and use of many of the facilities. But how else do they 'get you?' The DCL website is frustratingly vague about all of that. What is free and what isn't?
We've been on 4 cruises so far...The initial cost covers your cabin, entertainment, food and basic drinks like coffee, soda and juice. Specialty drinks, smoothies and, of course alcoholic beverages are extra. Hint; look for 'drinks of the day' for good pricing. Excursions, photos, souvenirs, and many snacks & drinks at different locations like theaters are extra too.
