13 Months To Go, And Already Can't Sleep!

Oh THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU a thousand times. I had been still wondering about that and needed some advice. :thumbsup2

I think we may just take two umbrella strollers and be done with it. If they decide they want to walk we can just hook them over our arms or put our bags in them!

Hi Amy,

I'm really enjoying your trip report so far.. and for the list of things you want to do before you go, I think you really do need to be planning so far out! It sounds like it is going to be such an awesome trip though :D I've been planning to go to WDW for almost a year now, but I didn't really do any trip planning until sort of recently. I think I need to be more like you! Your ideas sound really awesome and I can't wait to read more :D

Awww... thanks! I will deffinitely be checking out your Pre-Trip and your After Trip Reports!

I think my reasoning for planning so far in advance was last time I had 10 weeks to pull it all together! Now, I have gone 2 dozen times plus worked there but I was still rushed! I have Excel Spreadsheets and everything from that trip just so I could keep my sanity!

I think we may do the Fort Wilderness Camfire SingAlong one night! I am trying to put more things into this trip for the boys! My hubby loves to camp and be outside, so this will deffinitely apeal to him!

Great pre-trip report!!!

Planning is such a great OCD!! :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

Will you be going to MVMCP since you changed dates? We've done it and just loved it.

And I agree about the Sit and Stand, it is a lot to deal with. We had one ourselves!

We are staying at the Fort in 8 days now and will be doing the Campfire/Movie/Sing a long! The kids are so excited about it. :yay:

I don't think we will be doing MVMCP as it really is just the cocoa cookies and a parade and fireworks. Now if it was like MNSHP I would probably be all gung ho, but we do want to see all the decorations.

See, I plan like this and then I turn around get down there and go, "So what do you all want to do?" Basically b/c DH doesn't pipe up until the day of about what he wants to do! If we want to go to it when we get down there, we'll try. I am sure we will probably get in the Christmas mood and at least attempt it.

As for the marshmallow roast I know they all will love that, and I am sure your kids will too! If anything it's just neat to watch movies outdoors!

I suscribed! I just had to, yeah i'm only 13 but just like you guys i love to plan out things especially for Disney!! :goodvibes Just yesterday i made my own itinerary (sp?) for our upcoming trip which is early next year i included the restaurants and everything i always get into it when it comes to Disney Planning. I pack months before! I'm pretty sure i'll be just like you Amy and everyone else who also has the 'OCD' of Disney planning! :rotfl:

I'm excited to hear what you have next in store for planning this trip  I'm excited for you guys!

YAY FOR DISNEY-HOLICS!

My Grandparents decided it was time to take me to WDW. My Grandmother had stipulations: Had to be FULLY potty trained, feed myself, be able to walk without a stroller, dress myself, and most importantly I would not run off from them, ever. I swore up and down several times I could do them all, and I was loaded into the back of their Chrysler and driven from our town in Indiana to Disney World. Back then the only places to stay on property were Polynesian and the Contemporary. If you liked to camp there was the Fort Wilderness. That was it. No Grand Floridian, No Wilderness Lodge or Moderate or Value Resorts. If you couldn't afford either of the hotels you had to stay off property.

So we stayed in Kissimmee which makes me still giggle when I say it! It was nice, I hadn't stayed anywhere besides my own bedroom or Grandma's house so I was in Heaven. Keep in mind I had never even been on property at this point. That first night we went to the Poly to look around, and watch the water parade. I remember oohing and aahing about the lights being out on the water!

The next morning, Magic Kingdom.

And I was in love. No holds barred in love. My Grandma tells me I cried when she told me it was time to go back to the hotel, that I thought we were never coming back. But, I do remember small things, not the whole rides but images, flashes of the attractions and the layout of the park.

I do remember taking the picture above on the Skyway (RIP), and loved the thought of staring in one place and being whisked away somewhere completely different.

That night it was like being in a fairy land. The lights in the trees, and it wasn't CHRISTMAS! The buildings all shown and sparkled, and flashed in time to my heart it seemed. To this day I adore to go to MK at night, the day is wonderful. But the evening seems so much more magical.

I am sorry for this momentary trip down memory lane, but sometimes I have to remind myself how this all started. I am now planning a trip for both of boys who are barely younger than I was when I first went. It helps me somewhat to remember what that was like, those feelings and images so that if I understand more about being a child, I can understand what I should do in different situations.

Nothing brings out the kids in adults like Disney. Nothing can reduce me to tears just by a vision, a picture or a memory other than this. I think this small trip will help my larger trip in that now I can understand the tantrums we encountered the last time we took the boys. OH MY! They had to have been overstimulated and tired! By Thursday they were DONE! So I think we will be relaxing a bit more during the week. Plus we won't have as much car time since we will be staying on property. That will deffinitely cut down on the stress.

All for now!

What great pics of you as a little girl..... I liked the diversion! Can't wait to read more....

Also, another "don't take the sit-n-stand".... umbrellas are so much easier! We have a Peg Pliko that folds down like an umbrella but has a small platform (very small) for standing - LOVE it! It also has a basket and reclines for napping.....

Add me to the list of Dis'ers planning the trip for over a year!! We actually will be going to WDW a year from Wednesday!!!:rotfl2: :cool1: :lmao: I have enjoyed your pre-trippie and am thinking of writing one myself...especially since we have already changed our dates from October to September due to the school schedule of our oldest DS(16) and have changed our resorts!! I, like you, have been working on the scheduling of ADR's and want everyone's input. This will probably be the only trip for a very long time that we have all of our children (they will be 17, 7 and 2) with us as our oldest is planning on joining the Air Force. Given that, I want our trip to be as special as possible for everyone!!!

Enjoy your planning and I'm sure I will be checking in here often.

Oh, last night I went to Home Depot and acquired 10 LGMH's!! DH thinks that I am crazy....wait till he sees what I plan on doing with them!!:rotfl:

Anyone know anything about Artists Pointe versus Whispering Canyon. We are going to the Marshmallow Roast and I thought we would eat at Wilderness Lodge before going over to the campground... I have heard wonderful things about Whispering Canyon froma friend's Mom who says they do lots of neat stuff for and with the kids. But, I get the feeling Artists Pointe is more refined? Whispering Canyon is 1 TS and Artists Pointe is 2. Is Artists Pointe at Wilderness Lodge anything like the Artists Pallatte on the Disney Wonder?

Hello Everyone,

Sorry to keep you all out there without a recent post! Again I can only blame the precedents in my life, this comes last!;)

As an update:

My DS#2 is doing great at a new school, and we are going to get Speech Therapy for him to help with his speech delay. He is really coming along now and we get less tantrums from him and much more cooperation.

On the Trip front
We now have less than 30 days until it is time to make our reservations with DVC reservations. I need to email and contact our DVC renter and just touch base again on what we want in a room:
2 Bedroom Villa with Boardwalk view, closer to the elevator if at all possible since my G-Ma cannot walk long distances.

Also, we will be flying now instead of driving. My DH and I were talking about my G-Ma's latest trip (she is there right now) and she got there in no kidding, 2.5 hours. So this would be much more enjoyable than the 17 hours we spent on the road last time, including all the pit stops and traffic. Also comparitively for gas, mileage, food, etc. the flight just makes more sense. We can also stay longer in the Orlando area and maybe check out Sea World or Discovery Cove while we are there. I think last time we spent over $500 in gas. I think a flight was going to come out to 8-900 bucks, for lessening the headache it's worth it!

Okay, I promised that I would update as far as ADRs to give you all some ideas of where we are thinking of going, and of course why. (These are mainly Table Services that I am talking about, but I am putting a few CS in here as recommendations!)

Day 1- Start the morning right at the Crystal Palace. Both the boys LOVE Tigger, and Pooh of course, but mainly Tigger! My younger son loves Lumpy so I am sure he will be constantly inquiring where he is of the costumed characters. We are planning a VERY early breakfast at the CP so we can be in the parks first thing before anyone else is there.
There is something very magical about walking into MK without thousands of people in the streets. We will be leaving the MK around 1 for a break so we plan on eating our CS at the Boardwalk Bakery which has several paninis and fresh fruits offered which is right up our families alley!

Day 2- There is a lovely restaurant in The Land called the Garden Grille. The Garden Grille is a rotating restaurant and also a character luncheon with Chip and Dale, Mickey and I believe Pluto. Though I have seen Minnie there on occassion. I know it is two chracter meals in two days, but hey the TS credits need to be used and we hate waiting in lines for the character meet and greets and this is a wonderful time saver to eat, the kids get to see their favorite characters and get those autographs they love.

This evening we are planning on a Illuminations Cruise with dining from LeCellier to celebrate all of our family being together and I hope this isn't our last vacation to WDW with my G-Ma, but it is an attempt to make it more special.

Day 3- Both of the selections on this day or Counter Service. However the choices for Counter Services that I selected are based on experiences both bad and good in the parks. A CS that we were impressed with last time was the Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom. The Rotisserie Chicken w/ veggies is WONDERFUL, and their selections for kids are on par with just about every other CS in the parks.

Our second selection for the evening was Columbia Harbor House in the MK. This is one of those out of the way CS that not too many people know about or go in. It is located right across from the Haunted Mansion and I just love this place and how quiet it can be!

Day 4- Our first actual meal at MGM will be at Pizza Planet, which I have been disappointed in before. There was SOOOOO much more I think Disney could have done with the Pizza Planet retaurant than making it into a glorified Pizza Hut that you can hit in any burgh in the nation. But, this isn't about me, it's about the kids. They both love Toy Story and I think it would be a nice switch to be able to say "I ATE THERE MOMMY!"

Now let me preface, based on listening to the Podcasts, and having the utmost respect for Kevin Klose, whom I actually have found myself agreeing with 95% of the time in his recommendations, I made the decision to drop Whispering Canyon from my ADRs, if I hear of an improvement I will change it.

So for the evening I have no ADR plans as yet. This is our Chip and Dale Marshmallow Roast, but I am not in the mood to spend two TS on the Hoop De Doo, unless I drop Le Cellier from the Cruise on our second night. And even then, the seating for DDP isn't the greatest. For all of us to eat at the Hoop Dee Doo it would be close to $200.

Day 5- I want to do a day at the Food and Wine Festival for Lunch, which I don't think will take a TS or CS, so we can use it in the evening. This will also be a great excuse to go around the WS with the boys and get a late start day in! I promised my son's teachers that since we were taking them out of school for a week we would do the WS and learn to say Hello in different languages and getting our passports filled out.

Right now that is about all I have figured out based on what I am seeing here at the house and listening to the Podcasts, and reading reviews both here and allears.net!

We;re Goin to Disney in February as well!

My DH and I are going to give the kids a surprise trip for Christmas! WOOHOO!!!

We will be there the first full week of February and also the first night of the Pirates and Princess Party!

Artist Point is an upscale restaurant w/ a woodsy feel--nothing like Artists Palette.:sad2:

Thank you for that! I saw Artist Palette on the Cruise show on the Travel Channel and wondered! I figured if it were anything like that it would be worth the trip. But we can do upscale and woodsy here at home.
