12yr. old son looking for others his age?

We will be cruising on the 4 night Wonder May 28, 2006. I thought it would be neat if my son ( he will be 12 at time of cruise) could "talk" with other guys/girls his age before we go. I don't want to sound overly protective but I would want to "talk" to the parents first to make sure we are all ok. with our kids "talking,writing" before we let them.
Does anyone else think this is an alright idea?
