125 points CCV direct or VGF resale.

Hi all, we are looking to add on points in the MK area. We already have 100 points with “blue card” privileges for BWV and are looking to add 125 more points. We enjoy 3/3 night split stays between the Epcot and MK area.

The prices of VGF resale are slightly less than direct CCV, but do have the resort restrictions re: using them for RIV or any new dvc resorts Disney should add in the future. But the new walkway from VGF to MK is a huge plus to us, and we like being able to also walk to Poly for dining options. We also like the larger rooms and theme at VGF (really, really hope they bring back GFSO post COVID)! So these positives seem to outweigh the resort restrictions of only staying at the original 14 with these 125 points since it is a relatively small amount.

On the other hand, a 125 direct contract at CCV can be used anywhere and we really love the decor of the villas and lodge, and the lower point charts are appealing as well. We are only a family of 4 so the occupancy of studios and 1 BRs isn’t as much of an issue for us. The biggest downside is the transportation. While we love the dining at WL and the boat transport to MK, transportation to other dining options or Epcot/HS areas requires boat ride plus monorail transfer, bus or Uber as we don’t rent a car.

I have gone back and forth, well more like around in circles, in my mind so was looking for any outside input!

Thanks

It sounds as though you like CCV, but like VGF more. I would go resale VGF for that alone. I also don’t know what CCV availability is like when you want to go, but some threads here suggest CCV is getting harder and harder to book.I wouldn’t worry about the resale restrictions, I bet you use your VGF points just to go there or BLT.

I would buy VGF. The new walkway is very convenient and I love the resort.
Since you already have the blue card, I see no reason to buy direct... If you really want CCV why don't you buy CCV resale? The riviera limitation is minor compared to the amount of money you can save.

Both really depend on your booking patterns. CCV studios have gotten tighter and tighter. VGF also has very few studios, which can make booking VGF studios difficult as well, especially in peak times. If you are going super peak, maybe neither is a great idea, and I'd lean Poly, since you need to book studios.

I am in mid-contract for VGF because I love the resort and I think its booking advantage will be increasingly important. I would not buy VGF points planning to stay somewhere else. They are far too expensive to not use their 11 month priority.

If you really want CCV, resale can be a big price difference, and I don't see why you wouldn't do that. You could always use the old points for RIV or Reflections or whatever.

Thank you so much everyone! Your input has all been very helpful! Since I only need the points for 3 nights (since we are doing a split stay) I looked at the point charts and should be able to do a studio or one bedroom most times of the year if we get 150 points instead of 125.

Since we are big walkers, in the end I keep going back to the advantage of being able to walk to MK and Poly (and even TTC if we have time for a longer walk). We just prefer walking to waiting in line during busier monorail/boat times.

I agree we would love to own at both but financially for now are going to have to pick one. But keeping CCV resale in mind down the road is a great thought too if we opt for VGF now.

Thanks again!!!

You said you enjoy a split stay between Epcot and MK area so it seems likely you'll use your new points at the resort you buy them, yes? Lots of places to stay with those points and you can use your other points if you want to check out whatever resorts might be used in the future. From everything you otherwise state I'd say VGF sounds like the one your most want.

Have stayed at Wilderness (cash room) and Boulder Ridge, but not CCV. Own at VGF and love it there. Looking very much forward to the walkway.

Both great resort and both have tight studio availability which means for studios you need home point advantage. Sounds like you like VGF better so that should be the choice

I own at both and love both of the resorts. GFV is my favorite though. CCV is offering incentives currently and you should be able to purchase a fixed week if that would work for you. Good luck, these are 2 great resorts from my experience.
