At our family Christmas party yesterday, we did a Yankee swap. We had allowed all the kids over 12 to be able to choose if they want to be in the kid swap, or the adult swap. All the kids over 12 chose the adult swap.
One of the gifts my sister's boyfriend's daughter opened was a parafin wax machine. She kept it, she did not swap out. I actually would of liked to have swapped for it, but, she seemed to really want it, and heck, she is only 12, I would of felt bad taking it from a 12yo. (realizing it may not have been a good idea to include them). well, my neice, another 12yo, gets a gift, and she goes for the parafin.
I was really amazed that the thing would be so popular with the two girls. My SIL told my sister she would give Sam (the bf's DD) a parafin that she got a couple of years ago and never used.
Do 12yo really have a problem with dry hands? I know my hands are in bad shape, but but is because of the work I do.
I just thought it was funny that the two 12 yo's were after it.
Another thing that surprised me, my 11 yo neice got the gift I brought, Disney Scene It. She did not originally open it, it was swapped for something she had. (this was the kid swap, not the adult) She actually CRIED! Not a cry of delight either. She hated the gift. My brother got a stainless steel travel mug and thermos, and offered to take the Disney game and give her the travel mug (as a joke), but she jumped on it! She was THRILLED. We all walked around scratchng our heads over that. But, she was happy at the end of the day. So was my brother and his wife. That's all that matter's, right?
Oh, I was telling my DH how I really wanted the parfin, but didn't want to take it from a 12yo. I wonder if he got the message.
