I wasn't really sure about which board to post this on. I figured that all of you would have great information to share so I did it here.
We are leaving in one week!!!!! (YEAH!!!) Since we are not only making an eight day trip to WDW but also moving back home from Venezuela, we will have 12 suitcases!!!!! Yes, 12!!!! I had wanted to search online about different transportation options available from the Orlando airport to the Disney hotel, but my husband didn't think it was necessary. He plans on us getting to the airport having no problems finding transportation. Being the planning person that I am, I am now stressing over this. Are there any other options that I should consider and tell him about? It is a week away.

Groosch! depending on how many people in yer party...I'd think about hiring a van from someone!! (ie. Yourride/mears etc.)....jurst a thought! :)

Umm.. how many people do you have to go with the 12 suitcases?

The US Airlines are really cracking down on excess luggage this year and they could easily charge you more for extra luggage than your ticket cost! I would check into that first.

I would note even attempt Mears with 12 suitcases. You are going to need help. I would call YourRide, Tiffany etc and see what you can do. (You might call Mears, they may balk at 12 suitcases, once again it depends on the size of your party.) Go over to transportation board and read up!

Since the standard tip for Mears is at least a dollar per piece of luggage you are already looking at $12 to $20 each way in tips!

I don't think it's just USAirways that's charging for extra bags; I think it's all of them. And they have a separate charge for each segment.

Is there anyone back home you can ship the extra bags to? Maybe what you can do is ship the extra baggage home and only have 1-2 bags per person to take to WDW.

Of course, that's really going to depend on how much a shipper will charge for shipping between Venezuela and LA. The cost might actually be comparable to what the airlines would charge.

I would check with your airline and find out how much for the extra bags, and then check with a shipper like FedEx or UPS, and compare the prices.

As for transportation from the airport to WDW with 12 bags -- I've never used Mears but I don't know if that would be the most practical. A town car service such as Tiffany, YourRide, FL Tours, or others might be better. Have you considered renting a van for your stay? Even if some of them are small, 12 bags are still a lot.

YIKES!!! Like others have said, the airlines are cracking down on the number of bags that you have, the size of the bags and the weight of the bags. We had to purchase new luggage because ours exceeded the new size restrictions.

The penalties are not minor. You could be looking at several hundred dollars in fees.

Delta has their policies on their website. I'm sure other carriers have done the same.

There are four of us in our family. Therefore, the 12 bags are the total amount allowed on the airline (3 bags per person). We have verified our luggage sizes and everything is fine with that. We will not have to pay any extra charge unless we go over the weight limit, and we are doing our best to not have that happen. With 12 bags it is pretty easy to distribute the weight. We have looked into shipping the extra bags that we will not use on the trip, but shipping from Venezuela is RIDICULOUSLY expensive when we can do it on the airline at no charge. I asked my husband about renting a van and he doesn't want to fool with it. He just wants to pay the extra tip both ways and have someone else drive. (The driving here is crazy, beyond crazy, and he is ready to have a break from driving!!!) I will check into YourRide and Tiffany. I have never used either one. Thanks for those names!
