I am cruising with my parents who are first time cruisers and due to other priorities and health issues my father will probably never cruise again. I would like this to be a "trip of a lifetime for them". I have not booked any DCL excursions as they are to $$$. My plan was to explore Key West on Foot and maybe do the trolley tour. Cayman- I had entertained the idea of renting a car so that we were free to do what we pleased, the Island seems pretty small. Is this not a good idea? Cozumel Dad has expressed an interest in seeing the ruins and I know that there are a number of companies out there that offer tours. Can anyone suggest a company? Are there any places that are on the "not to be missed" list. I guess am hoping to come away from this with a feeling of what the Island (S) are like.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I would have done this sooner but mother has just now decided not to back out of the trip. (yes, due to the illness situation) :eek I can do this, I can do this , I can do this.

I've never been on the Western, but I have been to Grand Cayman and I wanted to advise you that they drive on the left side of the road there. I wanted you to know so if you felt uncomfortable with that, you could make alternate plans. Grand Cayman isn't that big, but you won't be able to see the whole island in one day. Also, are their rental cars near where you tender into GC? I would have thought cars would only be available at the airport. I hope you have a MAGICAL cruise and your parents enjoy it.

Goodmorning...
A couple bits of advice that i will pass to you that have been given to me.

1. Try the trolly in Key West... or one of the Golf Cart like things that you rent yourself. Might be better than walking and that way your parents could either sit in the cart or go into the shops depending on their stamina that day.

2. Not too sure about Grand Cayman... but... we have booked and excursion with Capt Marvins that came highly reccomended and it was fairly inexpensive.

3. On Cozumel we are renting a jeep. We have reserved our jeep through a reputable company (www.cozumelinsider.com). We have been warned to be careful about the 'hawkers' that will meet you at the port and try to get you to rent a jeep for $15 or cheep a day... the warning we received was "Be careful, you will spend 3 hours of your precious time on the island listening to a high pression time share sales pitch before they will give you the keys to your vehicle"

I would think that if you can rent a jeep you could explore the ruins on your own a bit at your own pace...

Above all... relax, you can enjoy yourself weather you plan anything ahead of time or not.

Enjoy your precios time with your parents..

See ya where it's warm!!!!
