I loved the sign! I wondered if I could use it as a surprise magnet for my mom and sister's cabin?! That was such a treat when we arrived on our first cruise last summer! Does anyone know where you buy the magnets? I am such a novice!
I read your post, bubbasmom....Wouldn't that be weird if we had the ship to ourselves.... To reassure myself, I looked back over the past 2 years of posts; I think we'll ahve plenty of company!!

What every happened to the Flat Mickey idea? I think the grownups should do it too!! (What is the google group people mention periodically? I guess I have to go back thru all 2 years! )

I called the TA that said "call us" and they did say it's full but they might be able to find me a room! I asked why, is it a big group? He said not that he knows of, he thinks it's because it's the only Eastern in December.

Bummer -- I was hoping it was going to be an empty ship... not that it matters -- there is hardly any difference between somewhat crowded and full, compared to the parks!

I tried to request a cat 5 on the DCL site and only got a guarantee... but I am wondering it this helps our chances of getting an upgrade We've been lucky enough to be upgraded twice so I will not be disappointed if we don't this time, but we have been reserved on this cruise for 2 years so hopefully they go by booking date

I can tell you the upgrades are completely random and have nothing to do with when you booked or when you pay or how many times you have sailed. I have been all of the above. First time I sailed we were upgraded. Second time we were upgraded and it was a last minute booking. Third time was not upgraded and paid early and booked over a year in advance. I asked the cast members and they have no control over it, it is done by the computer when they are trying to fill the ship. They normally start to bump the lower Cats up first so they can sell the low cats for dirt cheap then they work their way up. Heres hoping!

We're sitting here watching the TS creep up the state, just some clouds and a sprinkle in NE Orlando right now.

OK, more silly questions! How do the upgrades work? Do you get them at a discount? Do you (oh make it be true ) get them for free?!

When do you ask? On check in? So many questions, only three months to ask!!

The past two times I have asked about upgrades they have not been so cheap and yes it was at the port. You will not get them free at port unless the computer had already selected you for it. Asking will not help. They will let you know if you have been upgraded.

As far as free upgrades, they will randomly do them before you arrive to try and sell out the ship leaving the lower levels open for dirt cheap.

it would be nice to be on an empty ship! But I have been when it was sold out (thanksgiving week) and it wasn't bad at all.

My pixie dust story was:

We booked Cat12 GTY last Labor Day week on the Wonder. Got upgraded to a Cat9 a month before. Got to the port, asked about an upgrade but didn't want to pay the $600 upgrade to a Cat6 that we were quoted and said no thanks. As we were walking into the Mickey ears and had our IDs checked, there was a woman waiting for us: we got pulled out of line and asked if we wanted a free upgrade to a Cat6. We of course said yes.

Do not, do not, DO NOT expect that though!!

This time around we're going to get there right when they open and ask about upgrading to a suite, if they're available - we have a preset amount in our minds that we're willing to spend, in case there is.

Don't worry, we're booking nothing "kid" related I think Palo at 6 on formal night, Brunch the next day at the earliest slot, parasailing and jetskis on CC, the Golden Eagle Catamaran on St Maarten.

Have to go over this and make sure of the Palo Brunch time - want it earlier in the week, I think.

We will do the morning Catamaran! We do this every time we go! It is a blast and the island is GORGEOUS as long as they dont have to go to the alternative location due to waves! I am choosing Tuesday night so we get to do every restaurant twice and Tuesday is the middle!

Got everything we needed, made some last minute things - after a year of thinking we'd do Palo on formal night I switched it to Tuesday night, 7pm. Thanks Gina for the suggestion

There are lots of slots open for everything, EXCEPT there's a couple excursions on St Maarten already filled! Or at least, they're not available for one to book. The Lotterie Farm Hidden Forest Tour, and the Shipwreck Cove Snorkel Tour.
