12/6/08 Eastern ~ ***CURRENT ROSTER pg 68, post # 1007!

Hi Joy - it is nice to meet you too.

We will probably be taking the kids along when we go to the beach in St. Thomas. I am sure that they will not want to miss a beach day. I am not quite sure what we will be doing in St. Maartin, but maybe some local shopping might be fun, unless we go to the Butterfly Farm or Orient Beach:rolleyes1 At least we have a couple years to think about it and maybe by then they will offer new excursions too.

Are either of you going to go on a cruise in 2007? Were you both on the DD cruise this fall?

Vicki

Yes - Joy and I were both part of the Dec Double Dip Geeks. :) I had a really rough time on the cruise but we are really hoping that with our kids being older that things will go better in 2008. Plus hopefully my illness issues will not follow me.

No cruises for us this year but we are hoping to get back to WDW the week after Thanksgiving. We are hoping to spend 6 nights at POFQ. We still have 5 day park hopper passes left over from our last trip for me, DH and DS. DD will still be free because she does not turn 3 until January. Gotta get one more "free" trip in for her before we have to pay. ;)

No WDW for us in 2007... we were really stretching it by going in 2004, 2005, and 2006... we normally only go every other year -- no bargain airfare to be found coming from the west coast...and my DH changed jobs last year and lost all his vacation benefits... so we will try to squeeze in a couple weekend trips to Disneyland while waiting for our return to Florida in 2008.

At least you have Disneyland close so you can still get your Disney fix! ;) We have to fly or drive halfway across the country to do either. :sad2:

I really should be planning our WDW trip but instead I am looking at information on the islands for this cruise. I had heard of the shore trips website before and I went and just did some looking around and I saw this interesting excursion on St. Maarten. I wonder if my kids (specifically DD) would be old enough for something like this. It looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Coral World in St. Thomas also looks like something we would all love. It looks like it might take up a lot of the day for us especially since I think St. Thomas is a fairly short port day.

I'm not a big snorkeling fan... we'll have to see how the kids are before I decide on shore excursions... I just can't really tell how well they'll take to being ashore for a 1/2 or full day.... we didn't take them on the ruins tour in Costa Maya because I didn't think they'd have the patience for it.

Nathan has shown some interest in snorkeling. DH and I have never even been before. Nathan just told us that next time we go to the beach he wants to wear the big goggles and put his head in the water so he can see all the fish. He is just fascinated with the ocean and all the things that live in it. The excursion I posted actually sounds more like a boat ride with a little bit of time to be in the water - either snorkeling or just hanging out on tubes.

We will just have to see as things get closer. We didn't do any excursions on our previous cruises and the only one who even got off in a port other than CC is DH. I just felt the kids were too young. This time I really want to do something in each port and I don't want to leave the kids behind in the Clubs so that means we need to find family friendly things to do.

We went to WDW after our last cruise this Nov. But probably won't get back to WDW for awhile. We are going to go on another cruise this Dec. for a 4 nite with Disney, but after that we are flying back home. We live in Wi, so it can get costly flying to Florida, especially when there is 5 (soon to be 6) of us.

I would love to make a trip to DisneyLand. Joy you are so lucky to live nearby. We were there about 4 years ago and really had a good time. I actually like it better than WDW. I would like to get out there again someday.

We tried snorkeling at Castaway Cay on our 1st cruise about 4 years ago and really liked it. We haven't done it since, but would like to do it again once the kids get a little older.

Where in Wisconsin are you, Vicki? We have friends in Sheboygan. Tana, who was on the Double Dip with us last month, my come on this cruise as well -- she lives in Minnesota. Hey Becka -- the midwest might be better represented this cruise!

We do like DL but it is more "common" to us than WDW so of course, we anticipate our trips to Florida.

We live in Spring Green, Wi, which is about 40 miles west of Madison and about 3 miles southwest of Sheboygan. Joy, have you ever been to Wi to visit your friends?

How far away are you from DL Joy? Where in Missouri do you live Becka? We went to Branson, Mo for our honeymoon in 1993. My husband also was at Fort Leonard Wood for a while before we were married. Did the ice storm hit the area where you live in MO?

Vicki

Nope - I've never been to Wisconsin myself.... my parents do business with Polar Ware in Sheboygan... I think my dad has traveled there on business... (our friends are actually their friends....)

We live near Sacramento, and it's about a 5 1/2 hour drive to Disneyland, when traffic is good. I'm not big on road trips so we usually fly when we can, but if it's a choice between driving or not going at all, then driving is fine. Sometimes it feels like it takes just as long to drive anyway, what with security lines and car rentals and stuff.

I actually live in Columbia which is halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis - right in the middle of the state.

DH and I actually went to school at College of the Ozarks just a few miles from Branson so we are quite familiar with the area and I was born at Ft. Leonard Wood. My dad was career Army so I was there until I was about 2 1/2 and then we moved back to FLW for my senior year in HS so I actually graduated from Waynesville HS.

Yes the ice storm did hit our area but thankfully not as bad as some of the areas to to our south. We had about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of mostly sleet with some freezing rain and snow mixed in. It has been a pretty interesting year for winter weather.

We need to convince Tana to come with us. Who else will we have that will be willing to take her own time to resolve the chicken pot pie debate by making a trip to KFC! ;)

It would be nice if the midwest was more represented on this cruise. It did seem like everyone on the DD was from the East or West coast. I felt kind of lonely in the middle of the country. :rotfl:

Just bumping back up so we don't get lost.... ;)

Another bump before we fall to page 4.... ;)

Becka,

That ice storm must have been something. Hopefully you weren't out of power for too long. We have been having crazy cold and snowy weather here. I can't wait for spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fort Leonard Wood and Branson are pretty areas of Missouri. I think it is a pretty state in general.

Joy,

I do know what you mean about driving to the airport and the lines and security. Sometimes I am so tempted to just drive to Florida. If it were only a little closer.:)

Vicki

Another round of winter weather for us here in mid-Missouri. Our latest winter storm warning calls for 4-8 inches of snow before tomorrow afternoon. Last winter it snowed once really early and we had maybe 1 inch...we sure are making up for it this winter.

Vicki - Thankfully we never lost power during the ice storm but we were stuck at home for quite a while. We were all stocked up so it was not nearly as bad for us as for many others.

Becka,
That's good that you didn't lose any power. I know I had heard on the news that many had. I imagine that it was pretty difficult to go anywhere with the roads being so icy. Luckily you were smart and had stocked up on a lot of food, etc...

We had 3 -4 inches of snow yesterday into today and now we are suppose to have 1-3 more inches tomorrow with blowing snow. Schools were delayed this morning for a couple of hours and who knows about tomorrow. I know my daughter is hoping for a cancellation

I imagine that with 4-8 inches for you tomorrow that there will quite a few cancellations in your area.

I don't know if it will be a total cancellation or not. It has not started snowing yet and I think the worst of it is not expected until tomorrow. They might try to keep the kids in school in the morning so they don't have to take another snow day and just do an early out. Either way I will be working since we have a payroll to run tomorrow. If worse comes to worse I will at least be working from home but most likely I will need to go into the office.
