12/6/07...Anyone with us?

peg

mom and i watched a herd zebras daisy my dog was interested in the sound

Things were really hopping at the watering hole about 1AM Phoenix time....big heards of zebra, antelope and wildebeast. Also saw the most beautiful turquoise iridescent bird. Oh, and a warthog too!

BTW, I'm ready to go on this cruise NOW.

Wow - sounds like an active waterhole. I just check it occasionally, usually when it's dark there. I need to set a reminder to myself to take a peek when it's early morning or evening, or during daylight hours.

Couldn't connect this afternoon. It said the server may be too busy. I'll keep trying.

I had the same thing happen - but it's up and running today!

I agree - viewing at early morning and 9:30 p.m. my time seem to be really busy periods.

You are so lucky! Sarah and I had to stay up till midnight just to see the zebras. It was very cool watching the light come up at the watering hole. Daisy, our dog, got a little tense listening to sound of the "morning alarm" birds. The cam is located at a very fancy schmancey lodge. No tents for these folks. I never wanted to go to Africa ( too many bugs), but after seeing their accomodations, I may plan a trip there someday.

You're right, it's addicting. So far all we've seen is a moth flitting around but it's minimized on my screen with the volume up in case something comes crunching, growling or plopping to the waterhole. All we've heard so far is wind blowing. At least I think it's wind - almost sounds like traffic noise, but then there wouldn't be wild animals strolling into the scene.

It's true, those birds are amazingly noisy first thing in the morning - but then you know the animals are about to show up. I'm glad you are all enjoying the site - I love to check on a couple of times a day if I can to see any animals I might not have seen the day before. I'm still waiting for the GIRAFFE!!!! They are my favorite.

Good luck - everyone. Happy watching!

Good morning! At 6:15am central time this morning there was a herd of about 20-30 Thompson's(?) gazelles and a couple of wildebeests resting in the grass by the waterhole. A warthog came by, too. Fascinating!
They must have a remote control on the camera, as the operator would pan back and forth occasionally, and zoom in on an animal to where you could see the flies on the animal's back!
Also saw a blue car go by the road in the background and the animals hardly moved. They must be used to traffic going by.

Hello all!

A voice from the past is returning to the thread. It is I (3LVDisney). I have not been keeping up the past few months as my mother has been extremely ill and has not been getting any better. I have been very busy between that and work. Anyway, there has been requests for my trip report to MVMCP last December. Was it worth it? Was it fun? Was the hot chocolate hot? Was there really snow on main street? Well, I can state that we did get to go last year on December 7th, 2006. The parade was wonderful. The fireworks show was terrific. The free cookies and hot chocolate were great! There really is snow on Main Street. The whole park was "decked out" in the Christmas theme (much more so than some of the other areas of WDW). They had all the characters out in XMAS costumes. They had dance parties for the kids. Santa was there, too (he sets up on main street and kids / adults can visit with him). PhotoPass had special rates for the event and there was even special merchandise that can only be purchased at the event. We had a great time, but I will warn you that it can be very busy at even the "low season" point in December. Also, temperatures can fluctuate greatly. In fact, the only complaint that we had was that the night we went to MVMCP, it was soooo cold that we could not stay for the whole thing. We had a 2 year old with us and we were freezing! The hot chocolate kept us going for as long as possible, though. Also, they do have many rides open for the event, but the lines were almost as long as they were during the day. So, to sum it up, would we do it again? You bet! We are going this year on the night we return from the cruise 12/9/07.

Let's see............I have to read through all the 28 pages of posts to catch up, but here is what our plan is so far.......

We will be at Disney staying at the new Animal Kingdom Villas (we joined there as charter members in addition to our Saratoga Springs membership) from December 2nd through the 5th. We will go on the cruise with all of you from the 6th - 9th and then return for a couple of days to Saratoga Springs (currently) before leaving back to St. Louis on the 11th. Our party will consist of the following:
Me (Andy), my wife (ToniAnn), our 3 year old daughter (Elizabeth), my wife's mother (Paulette) and father (Ron), and my wife's aunt (Patricia) and uncle (Joe).
All of us will be on board for the pre-trip to WDW and the cruise and then 5 our of the 7 of us will be at WDW after (aunt and uncle can't stay).

We would love to meet up with the big Surf and Turf group prior to the cruise. Does anyone have an "official" schedule or do I need to go through the 28 pages to see what is going on. I hope our current planned schedule can match up with some of the things you guys are doing as it sounds like such a nice and fun group!

I promise to keep checking and posting to this thread between now and our trip!

Sincerely,

3LVDisney :santa:

Hi Andy,

Welcome to the Surf and Turf clan, although some of them are in the Turf and Surf group, depending on whether they are visiting the parks before or after the cruise. Actually, you will be in the Turf and Surf and Turf group. :rotfl:

I'll let "The Sisters" provide further information on any organized activities and planned meets. I'm a newbie (only our second cruise) to the group, but am already looking forward to meeting everyone on the cruise.

Congrats on your AKV charter membership. We'll be buying in as soon as we win the lottery. ;)

A herd of Elephants at the hole - even a baby!!!

Happy 1st Day of Summer!!!

NO, Southwest Airlines hasn't opened up their December flying schedule yet - Jackie - I've been checking everyday! :rolleyes1 :dance3: :rotfl: :coffee:

Yeah....we need to pick our favorite return flight now, so we can make a quick 'click' when they come up. Doesn't look like there's a non stop coming home any more. So, it's and one stop or a stop with plane change...we should decide......

One stop - no changing... what kinda time frame is that one?

It's dark at the waterhole at noon today central time, but there are 3 elephants drinking and socializing. Cool! Lots of splashy noises.

The SPA specials sure sound good, when do you find out about any of those specials......on board, or before the cruise? and how do you sign up?
Thanks
Woody

I believe you find out about the specials once on board. Not 100% sure WHEN....I've never really paid attention to the spa stuff before....I'll go grab an old Navigator and see if they are listed there....

NOPE, didn't see any on the Navigator. I'll ask around....
