12/30/2011 8 Night Magic New Year's Eve Celebration!

Hey bpescar! We are very excited about doing a back to back if it weren't for the fact that we had points to use we would only be doing the Christmas cruise so I am very grateful to my mom for joining DVC years ago. We will probable be interested in doing FE exchange. We have done them in the past and loved them. We live in the mountains of North Carolina by the time this cruise comes @ we will be ready to escape the cold and snow. I'm fortunate with vacation time I am the director at a special needs preschool which is year around so I can vacation when I want for the most part. This will be are 5th cruise all on the magic hopefully one day we will see the other ships it just always seems the cruises we want to take are on the magic.

This is our seventh cruise, fifth on the Magic. We have not been able to do the back to back yet because of the time factor. I am a college instructor and my best time for cruising is over our winter break. Each time I look, the dates conflict with our semester beginning at either of the colleges I teach ( I teach at 2). I see you teach the little ones. Our profession is so important at any level, each having its own significance and foundation skills necessary to inspire, motivate, and educate the future generations. The children of this century are in need of so much more than we were given that I feel it my duty as an educator to do my very best and help them to meet their challenges and learning from them in order to succeed. OOPs, there I go again. Sorry whenever I meet up with another educator I tend to discuss my philosophy. Don't worry we will be on vacation and this teacher does know how to have fun. Some of the things my husband and I love to do on board in addition to participating in fish extenders, is play bingo, the art of entertaining, we love the gym facilities early in the morning, the adult cabaret is always great, and the family shows are wonderful. Come to think of it there is usually so much to do we can't fit it all in. For shore excursions we have some saved activities we have done in the past which is unusual for us because we usually do the same things at this itinerary. This time we said let's pick different items so we shall see if we can set off from being creatures of habit. Mostly I am excited about being on the ship for New Year's Eve! Now this is one New Year's I will ring it in when usually I am in bed at nine.:dance3::cheer2::flower3::yay::wizard:
Bye for now,
Barbara aka bpescar

Hello everyone,

My name is Stephanie. It's exciting to see this cruise meet-up thread getting started! I will be cruising with my husband and DD, 8 yrs old, and my parents. This is my third cruise, all on Disney.

I first found the Dis board when my mom and I went on the Wonder's Panama Canal repo cruise in January. It was so fun to meet other cruisers from all over the world.

I think we should definitely organize a fish extender gift group. If we get enough people on here, we could possibly order lanyards to help us recognize each other on board as well.

Looking forward to getting to know you,

Stephanie :beach:

Hi Stephanie;
Welcome to our discussions and aboard another fabulous cruise. Panama is a dream trip for us because its timing always happens when I am teaching or have to go back to teaching. I thought your idea about lanyards was interesting where do we get those from? We also get so many from Disney when we arrive that I never thought of purchasing them. I have also heard that some people make them. Let's put this idea out there for everyone to think about. Also on our last cruise we organized two dis board meets for those who wanted to meet up on the ship when we arrived. We chose one meet for later in the day on the first day of arriving on the ship and one on the second day between breakfast and lunch. It was great! As it turned out and luck would have it one of the couples were seated with us at our dining experiences. Loved it!

Hi! This is my first cruise ever, and I am excited that it's a Disney cruise. My husband and kids are excited to go on this vacation as well. :cool1: I was wondering what fish extenders are.. I see a few people talking about it.

Hey all!

We just plunked down our points and booked today! Can't wait to set sail, we've never been away for New Year's before, so this will be an adventure!

Has anyone done a New Year's Disney cruise before? Is there anything special? Are the ship and Castaway Cay still decorated for the holidays?

Thanks!

Just checked our room assignment knowing they probable hadnt assigned yet but i was surprised we got our assignment and we were upgraded from an inside to an outside. Yay we have a view!

Can't wait. This will be my longest cruise yet.
Has anyone been to St. Maarten/Martin on Disney yet? I'm interested in the "Island Drive & Explorer Cruise." Anyone have any information on it/experience of it?.

We have been to both side of the island but not Island Drive tour. Have you been on DCL cruise before?

I am always looking for a dive buddy if anyone is going diving on this cruise...

Fish extenders are these hanging pockets that hang outside your stateroom during the cruise. You can purchase them on ebay or make them. We made ours they are made out of material and they have pockets for each person in stateroom. The reason they are called fish extenders is that there is a fish that hold memos for you outside your door hence these are extension to hold gifts. We make a list of everyone that wants to participate in fish extenders and during the cruise people go around secretly putting in gifts into the pockets of these fish extenders that are hanging outside your stateroom. We did this during Christmas and it was great. People though of all kind s of things to give I was really impressed on the creativity people came up with for ideas. If you Google high school locker pockets you will also get an idea that is where I got my idea after I looked at one on ebay. Ebay search Disney Fish extenders. It is great fun. The Christmas Deco will still be up so this is going to be a blast.

We have not done New Years before but the ship will still be decorated from Christmas. We are also very excited. We love St Maarteen and these ports so this is going to be a blast from start to finish.

I know we will be getting a lot more dis going on later in August and September as we all start booking our excursions and such. Remember to keep in mind if you want to do fish extenders and also dis meets on the ship. We will be planing both these events as time draws closer. With this cruise leaving and some people doing a back to back we will start the final planning in early November that way everyone will have final notice before the holidays begin when we all get busy. In the mean time let's keep dissing about our great trip coming up. I noticed some new postings are from Saratoga Springs, us too! We will be coming in the day before. I am hoping to surprise hubby and come in for two days before but that is still in the works. Santa's elves have not replied yet. We love Saratoga Springs. We also have Grand California and live in San Diego so we have been fortunate so far. As for our excursions we have not saved any diving but keep watching the boards I am sure those of you looking for a buddy will have no problem finding someone. The entertainment is what I am curious about on this cruise.Disney always has surpassed our expectations so on this the New Years eve cruise I can only imagine what they are going to do... I am more excited than my children used to be waiting for Santa.:cheer2::dance3::rotfl::yay::santa:

Hi everyone ...

I am contemplating booking this cruise, but had a concern ... is anyone else concerned that since there seems to be a lot of availability left for this cruise that they will cancel the 8 night and make it into two 4 night cruises?

Last year we sailed on the NYE 5 night cruise which was originally scheduled to be a 10 night Southern Caribbean cruise ... I would hate to book this 8 night and have it be changed ... just a thought ... anyone else?

Also, figmentnnemo, I see that you were able to book with points ... did you have any difficulty with availability for DVC rooms?

Thanks!

We were able to book thru DVC no problem.

When did they change it last year and how did they let you know? How did they handle it?

Hello Everyone,
I can not wait for this cruise to take place. This will be my families second Disney Cruise. We were on the Magic in February for the Western Caribbean Sailing durning Super Bowl Time!!! As soon as I seen that there was a New Years Sailing and it was to the Eastern Caribbean I booked it. We have a perfect Balcony Room and I just can't wait for it to arrive. This trip is going to be a Christmas Gift to my daughters and the bonus is that my youngest will be getting to celebrate her 8th birthday durning the sailing!

I'm trying to gather pictures for magnets on the door, my kids saw this on our first cruise and thought it was a great idea. Does anyone know where I can find such things.
:tinker:

you can find magnet DISigns by visiting the creative DISigns forum via the main DISboard forums page. There you will find lots of very creative DISers that will customize many of their DISigns for you. You will be able to see their DISigns by looking in the photobucket/4shared files.

Go ahead and have a look round I can promise you that you will be lost on those pages for hours, they are all such lovely DISigns.:worship:

I can recommend Millipie and Jordak for their DISigns, they have done some for me for the MV of the Dream and also for my up an coming Alaskan cruise next week and will use them again :thumbsup2

Goodluck in finding the DISigns you want for your door!

Thank You Elfinjojo.... I took a quick look at Millipie and WOW... I sent a message to JordanK and he sent me back some personalize items... I can't wait for December now!!!!

Has anyone sailed at New Year before? What is it like on New Years Eve?? Just trying to plan stuff out in my head. I'm travelling alone with my 2 daughters and I kinda like to be someone prepared for things.
