12/29/07 Western - New Year's Eve

Welcome to all of the new folks -- It's nice to see that there are more than five of us on this cruise.

Busy this weekend with our last marching band competition. DW and I are chaperoning/leading the logistics for the overnight trip with 200+ teenagers.

So, GTG, but will be online more next week.

Uh. Well maybe not. Just remembered I will be Dallas and Colorado Springs on business next week... :headache:

So, do people buy them? Or make them? It sounded like I could find them on ebay, but it looks as if we could have fun making one. Does it have to have a certain amount of pockets? Is the idea to put a gift from your home city or something for others (kind of like the olympic pin exchange)?

~janie

Janie - most people make them i guess, I had a good friend make one for me, (she is a great sewer, i can't even sew a button!) but there are instructions on that thread for no-sew projects too i guess! Also have seen some just buy over the door type organizers and decorate them. I just heard that you don't want it to be over 11" wide b/c it will hang out in the hallway. Mine is just about at 11".
As for the gifts, if you look back a few pages on this thread, you will see that i rambled off a few ideas.. but most people either do something from their state, or something that pertains to the cruise. And it doesn't have to be anything elaborate..
Also, you can either do just one gift - or you can choose to do a gift everyday - there is no pressure one way or another. I am going to hopefully do something each way, i think the kids will have a blast playing (ya, ok, the adults too.. LOL) .
As it gets closer, i will pm everyone participating with each cabin number, so we know where to do our drops! :thumbsup2 I will constantly update here with the number though, so we can all be assured we have enough stuff..
As i said, right now i have 4 definate cabins participating.
Just pm me with your cabin if it's something you decide you want to do! :)

Which cruise are you on in Sept. 2008? We are booked on the Sept 27 double dip first cruise after Magic comes back from drydock. On that cruise we are taking our daughters (25 & 30) and their boyfriends. We've been booked on that cruise since April.

We are booked on the Sept. 5 Night Double Dip (over labor day) . It is a surprise for dd - We are going with my inlaws, DH is staying home though.. My inlaws had a cat.3 booked, and offered to have us stay in their cabin ( i was going to book an inside stateroom for me and dd), so I said "heck ya!!" LOL So, i am going to try to wait til the night before to tell dd.
I am sure i will get flack from MY family, as dd will be missing the second week of school, (she'll only be in 2nd grade though), but i don't care -- to me, vacations with family are more important, and just as educational. :thumbsup2

Have a fun and safe trip!! Chaperoning/leading the logistics for the overnight trip with 200+ teenagers must be a real challenge!!

One of the perks of being an "empty nester" is not traveling for sports almost every weekend!!

Just bumping us back to the main page!! Beautiful sunny day here in northern California. GD is getting very excited to go to Hannah Montana concert on Sunday afternoon!!

Yuck, we have a mega yucky day here today - due to Noel. (Not you girl.. ;) the hurricane) its cold, (40's) very very windy and pouring.. YUCK. :(
On the bright side, i got one of my FE gifts done today!! Did a few extra incase the newbies join up.. :)

About 76 and sunny here today!! I am getting a kick out of some of the headlines in posts here on the board such as Wonder and Magic together because of Noel!!

DH and I are working on our plans for Key West after we rent our electric car so can I buy the tickets (at reduced cost online) at http://www.historictours.com/

Last time we spent time with GK's but this time we are going out on our own.

We are going to Mel Fisher museum, Harry S. Truman Little White House, Pirate Soul Museum, Shipwreck Museum, Hemmingway house, and last but not least, the Key West Winery.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Whew -- got back at 5:00 from chaperoning the marching band competition. It went great, except when the fire alarm went off at 7:00 AM this morning. I was downstairs taking care of breakfast for the marching band and DS12 (special needs) was asleep in the room. I was about to head up and get him when I had to take care of something with the hotel catering when the alarm went off.

Couldn't get upstairs easily because we had kids caught in the elevators, and DS12 woke up to this, got scared and headed outside with shoes and pajamas. He was a little freaked out, but got over it -- he saw a band parent and she brought him back inside. It was a false alarm (sigh).

So we get home at 5:00 and whisked off at 6:05 for a black-tie event here in town that my company was helping to sponsor -- way to busy for one day. DW is sleeping, and now I go to bed.

I promise to post more soon. I don't know why I am up doing this now.

Hurray for an extra hour of sleep -- happy fall back day everyone.

Jim, at least you get an extra hour of sleep 'eh? LOL Glad to hear it was just a false alarm!

JIM: Been there done that except it was Show Choir and Jazz Band with our daughter - this year she is in neither so I think we might even miss it. Glad everything worked out ok. Sure are looking forward to this trip.

Sounds like an exciting evening!! Glad it turned out to be a false alarm at the hotel!! We are up early here on a Sunday waiting for DD and GD to come over as they are going to Hannah Montana today. Another beautiful sunny day, temps expected to be about 78 degrees.

DH had to put water in the pool this morning as I could hear the strange sucking sound it makes when it is getting low. He also noticed that the earthquake made a few cracks around the pool. I noticed a few things fell over in the garage but nothing was broken elsewhere.

Jim,

Glad to hear everything ended up okay. I remember those band and cheerleading trips all too many years ago. But I was the one being chaperoned. What a difference a few years makes and the shoe is on the other foot. Get some rest today and begin your whirl wind travels this week.

Hope the Hannah Montana concert goes well!!! My youngest isn't into that right now and my older daughter wouldn't let mom tag along, that's not cool!!!

I found out this week, that from our small town (pop. 5,000) there are going to be three more families on this cruise from Pikeville. It's a Small World and I'm afraid it's getting smaller. We were in NYC the beginning of Oct. and meet people in the elevator at our hotel and in line at the Empire State building from where we live. It seems that I just can't get away.

Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday,
Pam

We are having a FABULOUS Sunday!! DD and GD just called and are on their way to our house. We will probably take them out for lunch before the concert. Either Cheesecake Factory or Chevy's sounds good to me!!

Growing up and going to concerts in the 1960's, there was not a chance on the planet I would let my kids go to concerts by themselves until they were at least 16!!

There is only one other family going on our WB Panama canal cruise from Woodside. Don't know of any other families from our area going on our cruise.

Wow.. small world! I don't know ANYONE from my town going.. oh, wait, except my inlaws.. LOL does that count?? ;)

You guys have been busy getting our count up!

I just read all the postings I've missed - pages of them.

I can't sew for anything - anyone have any idea of where I could buy a fish extender - we'd love to participate, but I'm useless with a needle.

The shirts are great and my daughter actually said she'd wear it -even without a designer label. I'm impressed. Teenagers-save me!

We're heading to Disneyland this coming weekend for a few days. Hopefully it won't be a madhouse. My daughter has her final (of the season) softball tournament the weekend of Nov 17 and then we can focus on the cruise. I can't wait!

Noel,

Can you pm me with your fish extender details as well. I'm afraid I going to run out of time to make one on my own and I really don't want to miss out on the fun!

Thanks,
Ann

Kate and Ann, i hope Noel's info on the FE will help you! I know back on that FE thread there were directions on how to do a no-sew one as well..
And i believe i saw at least one or two people buy over the door organizer things and just decorate them up..

Today I went to the CruiseCal site just to see how many cruise ships were going to be in Cozumel when we are supposed to be there and whether the Magic would have the late departure which would shift pirate night to Grand Cayman day (Tuesday). Well, there are eight ships listed for Cozumel on Jan 2, but the Magic isn't one of them. I went and did a quick search on the site for the Magic's schedule and there isn't one listed for our cruise on the site. Now what's strange about this is that all the Magic schedules before and after ours are listed and are the normal Eastern and Western itineraries. Just nothing listed for the Magic between Dec. 29 and Jan 5 besides Port Canaveral departure and arrival. Just wondering if we are in for a surprise:confused: .

Still not sure about the whole FE thing this time. Last time I left minature liquor bottles for everyone, but I'm not sure about this crowd. Some would be offended because it was liquor and some would be offended because they were minatures.

Finally figured out why we had such slow posting originally. This is a hard thread to find. Whoever started it should have said "New Year's Eve Cruise 2007" not Dec 29 Western. I can't ever pick it out without a lot of difficulty.
