12/19/2009 - 12/26/2009 Magical Christmas Cruise! It's not that far Away?

Hey guys! Had to get dd from school on Friday. She had a sore throat and later a fever. Figured it was strep. Went to the doctor on Sat morning and the quickie test come back neg, but talked the doctor into antibotics. They called yesterday and the culture came back positive! Everytime the quickie test has been neg, the culture comes back positive so, it was a go thing I asked. By Sun afternoon, dd was bouncing off the walls! So she went to school and I went looking around!

I found some cool kids stuff at JoAnn's in the clearance for 50 cents! Not to mention some Christmas stocking stuffers.

I finally heard from the retirement dept and have an appointment for this afternoon to fill out my final paperwork!

After November 1st I can really start planning!

Bill: You have me worried with your son, and what I see in my future. Just last night my son's behavior was off. Each time I asked to review his homework he avoided me. Sure enough when I forced him to show it to me, 3 things were not done! And honestly, there is no good excuse why not. I hope it all works out. I can picture you on the cruise in a dancing banana outfit .

Hey Bill
Here is some insight with what happened with us. We had taken our granddaughter on a cruise and she swore she was caught up in all her work at school haha! It was crucial because she had previously been so behind that if she was lieing to us her senior year was going to be hell. Guess what she was and it was for her. The next cruise during that time she knew she had to stay home. Senior year was too important. So she did not join the rest of her family and of course her consequences were her own. When it came toward the end of the year the girl was sweating bullets but she managed to pull it off. Do not ask me how but she did. I was a proud grandmother to see her graduate this past year. I have found that at this age we should not punish ourselves and we should allow for our children and grandchildren to have consequences for their actions. Our granddaughter stayed home with other family friends during our cruise and I think it sent a good message. I do not know if this helps. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs we will ever do. But one that is the most worthwhile.

Leslie, did you see those stockings at the Garden Ridge down at Carolina Place Mall? If so I may swing over there and take a look...I purchased an FE from someone on eBay and I love it, but I thought I might get something for the other family members traveling with us and put little treats in it for them a couple times over the week. They won't be doing the FE exchange with us, it's their first cruise and I think they are going to be overwhelmed just with the experience. But I'd love to do something special for them to help them get excited about the holidays on board.

Hi Kimberly- I saw them at Garden Ridge in Concord, but they had a bunch of them, so I'd be surprised if Carolina Place didn't have them too.


Dan - Good luck with your son. Being a responsible parent is no fun sometimes! Keep us posted.

Robyn - The flash mob would be fun if we could pull it off!

Thanks , you guys. I agree that Billy needs consequences and what trouble that is. Just don't know where I stand and won't know for a while. It seems a shame if he ruins his college carreer, but I won't be here forever. If he is going to do it, at least I'm here for now. I'll know more shortly. Unless his girlfriend and he aren't as close, We'll be on the cruise. I guess.... I hate being in this position. A seventeen year old that doesn't care. Where have I heard that before?

I assume that means upgrades will be sparce. I'm in Cat 12 Gty. I understand we'll get atleast an 11 because we are 4. We were going to see what was available at the port too.

The FL resident rate has been out for at least a few weeks, we priced it out for a balcony cabin b/c step-DD is a FL resident. But I was told if something happened and she wasn't able to make it, we would be charged the difference in price from the FL rate to the rack rate when we got to the port! We're talking thousands of dollars, so it wasn't worth the risk to me...

I'm confused too. When I looked on the DCL website cat 4 to 11 were still available. I'm not holding out too much hope on upgrades as we are only 3 and 2 per room but that doesn't stop me checking my ressy every couple of days though!

We're in the same situation - 2 ppl. per stateroom. I was actually thinking maybe we'd have a better chance of an upgrade b/c I thought there would be more families of 4 vs. couples and families with just one child booked, so maybe more availability in cabins sleeping 3...my logic may not be well-founded, but I like it!!! LOL!

Hi Everyone:
I take it those of you talking about upgrades are paying and not DVC members, correct? Mark and I love the fact that we are able to cruise every year because we are DVC members. We always get the reservation we want. I am not bragging I am just saying this for those of you that are not members maybe you should attend a session while onboard and check out Disney's best kept secret. They always have a great deal for joining while on a cruise. It has been the best investment we have ever made next to the purchase of our home. Be sure to talk to us and we can tell you how we did it. Plus you will want to be referred by us.
It truly is the best deal for vacationing you will ever find. Those of you that are members I am sure they will have a great deal to add more points they always do.

Anyway besides my love for DVC I can not wait to meet all of you. I am game for the flash mob thing as long as we choose something safe. We do not want to be like those other ships and get a reputation for people falling overboard-YIKES! Really I think we could come up with something synchronized and unique since most of us are teachers. What a hoot!
By the way how many of you are using Disney transportation from the resorts to the port? Just wondering.

Oh lucky you! we were in cat 10's deck 2 midship last year and I loved those rooms. I've heard that you are more likely to be upgraded if you are a first time cruiser.
Oh well, keep your fingers crossed, you never know the Walt suite may be empty!
