12/19/2009 - 12/26/2009 Magical Christmas Cruise! It's not that far Away?

I agree no talking about work. So I will reply now. You asked what do I teach? I teach developmental reading and writing (English)classes to community college students. Yes that is right. Students enter into college with a fifth to seventh grade reading, writing and math level. We community college instructors then have the honor of teaching them the basic skills they need for college. I love what I do and have a passion for these students and their learning. Now about the trip as for the list please take off the Michele, Michele's mom and Tori. That was the original plan for our girl's cruise, unfortunately something came up and Michele and Tori could not travel at this time so now it is me (Barbara)and Mark. My el:dance3:ves are working away and have enough to cover the list as it is now so that is good to know. I would like to know if there are any other preferences. For instance I notice there is a infant 18 months so I could use some suggestions there... It has been a while since my grandchildren were that small. We thought of some cute ideas today with the help of the elves. I understand that many want to stay away from the Christmas theme and we totally plan to do so. I just use the elves because I need their help... Bye for now!
:dance3::cheer2:

I'm starting to think we should rename the cruise to "Teachers' Week Off" :rotfl: With the number of teachers (I think I've counted somewhere around 10, since drizzt117's wife is also a teacher), this certainly will be a vacation.

I'm a teacher in training. I'm at Cal State Fullerton working on getting my elementary credential. Will be done next May. yay - can't wait! Just hope I can get a job in this market. :sad2:

The market is tough right now but will turn around 2011-2012 hopefully.. I forgot to mention our hometown for the FE list. San Diego Ca.:dance3::cheer2:

Which brings me to what I think should be our number 1 rule- no talking about work! This is a VACATION, people! :rotfl2:

How about Teachers' & Parents Week Off! LOL!

Just had to tell everyone. I found my FE gifts! I was at a local thrift store that also has close outs. I found some Disney themed items 6 for $1! I had seen these a couple of years ago. It is something everyone can use! (I am so bad when it comes to surprises! Just ask my DD how I like to taunt her!)

Also I did figure out Google documents so sharing the FE info should be easy.

I bought my fish extender off of ebay today :cool1: I have a pretty good idea about what I want to do for gifts but now I just need to get all the materials together and start making them! I wish we were leaving tomorrow...but it is getting so much closer :thumbsup2

I'm glad I'm not the only one working on their FE stuff early! I finished my FE this weekend and I'm so excited about it!!! My mom helped me sew it and it turned out really cute. I bought my main FE gift several weeks ago, but I'm still working on my non-Christmas variation and I have an idea for something else I think I'm going to add in too.

I also bought a cute little mini-Christmas tree for our cabin. I found a great Mickey mini tree-skirt on eBay that came this week. Now I'm in search of some mini Disney ornaments for it. I'm hoping that after Halloween I'll be able to find some. They seem to be a hot commodity on eBay right now. I'm really thankful to have FE and Christmas decorations to obsess about. Otherwise the suspense of waiting for our Cat 12 room assignment might kill me. :rotfl:

So let me get this straight. Since this is my first time wehang something off of the fish by our stateroom which is the fish extender correct? Then people place the gifts inside correct? I was a little confused with the last post buying their Fish extender on ebay... Mark and I already had planned on something to hang. I noticed last year some people had stuff on their door also. Can someone fill me in? Being a first timer we:dance3: want in on the party.:cheer2:

I'm right there with you, this is our first time too. We plan on making our own as well. If anyone has a pattern we can borrow I'd greatly appreciate it. :D

We've already seen some cute things to get. How many does one purchase/make? More details on this would be great. Thanks all!!!

This thread helped me a lot with my FE.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607&highlight=fish+extender

Basically, if you're participating in the FE exchange, you hang your FE from your fish outside your cabin. Then you put gifts in other people's FE and they put gifts in yours. Our coordinator, downrivermama, will give you a list of which cabins are participating. You can really hang anything you want as your FE. A lot people in the thread above made their own and you'll find some "no sew" directions in here if you want to take that route. But don't feel like it has to be elaborate. You can just hang a bag if that makes you happy. And there are lots of people who sell them on eBay too. Do an eBay search for "fish extender" and you'll find a lot of nice ones made by Disers. You can also find some from China like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mickey-Mouse-Wa...0?hash=item2e9fa03272&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

As for the FE gifts, that's really up to you. They should be small and fairly inexpensive. You can give one to each room or each person. You don't have to give one everyday, just once is enough, but more is ok too.

The door decorations are unrelated to the FE. People just make and hang those for fun. The only rule is that they have to be hung with magnets, no tape!

HTH!

Hey Leslie!

Thank you for a better clarification on this. We have never heard of it till recent (thank you Kimberly) and we are so excited to do this.

Hey everyone! Leslie is right, there are some really cute FE's for purchase on eBay. I bought one from someone and it is SO cute! I don't think I can post her ID here, but anyone wants her eBay ID, just PM me and I'll send it to you. She also made my DD an embroidered pillowcase for character signing back in April, and I had her make one for my niece, DD, and step-DD for this cruise, too. They are adorable...

Thanks for the information about ebay. We decided we would make ours. A fun little project to keep our minds occupied before sailing. There were some really cute ones on Ebay but I would rather make one that expresses our personality. But those gave us some ideas. Thank you so much that was a great help!:dance3::cheer2:

Hi it's Sue here (disneyday). I haven't 'logged in' to Disboards since 2007, my pc has always done it automatically. Imagine my panic last week when I was signed out for some reason:scared1: Anyway, long story short I have had to start afresh with a new username:mad:

We too have been busy sorting out our FE stuff. The dining table has been out of action for about 3 days, but now everthing is labelled, bagged and sat in a box.
Barbara, you now have 2 gifts so I think that serves me right for being so organised!
kimberley, Could I ask a favour? I noticed you have been busy getting magnet designs, and you have ordered one that I would like. Would you mind if I copy it from your post instead of asking the designer to do another one for me (I already have 6). It was the '1st disney cruise' one and I'd like it for my Mum's room.

And, as you can probably tell from my spelling and grammar, I am not a teacher!

I'm thinking of knitting our FE, but that may take a while. Maybe I'll do the iron-on tape FE instead. DFiance still isn't thrilled with the idea of me MAKING FE gifts, because he knows that what I want to make may take a bit of time. I apologize to everyone that you'll probably only be getting one thing from us. Probably one thing for the entire cabin, unless I have some extra time to make more.

Which reminds me, I should go to Hobby Lobby or WalMart soon to get some supplies...

You bet! I'd be happy for you to download and use any of the magnets I requested that would work for you :) Yes, I've been going a little crazy with magnets...I think I've got over 30 now. We have 2 staterooms, though, so hopefully they will all fit :rotfl:

I had forgot about the magnets on the door. Hmm! More ideas! Boy are we going to have fun in November. Let's see how creative we can be! Of course all that depends if I can keep my work load on track and not let it interfere. We will try to surprise you!:dance3::cheer2:

Hi There.. Another family joining in the fun. It's official.. I just bought the non-refundable tickets. So, 4 of us. Mom, Day, S13, S11. We'd like to join the roll-call and I think join in the FE exchange. I'll have to do more research for how it works. I've lurked around and have an idea...

Hi and welcome! :goodvibesWe'd love to have you join the roll call...just PM me with the info you want to include. To see what type of info people are including, look back at page 1 of this thread and click on the roll call link at the top of the page.

Let us know when / if you decide that you want to do the FE exchange, and we will add you to the list!

Anyone know what the dining rotation schedule is yet? My fiance and I are trying to get our ducks in a row before we can book all of our reservations.

And a question- I saw that a bunch of you are CC members- will it be difficult for us to get the excursions we wanted, since we can only book 75 days ahead?
