And as for memory, I can't quote War and Peace, but I have unintentionally memorized a good part of The Cat in the Hat. I can also remember words
to most songs played on the radio from 1970 to 1990. That's when I started having children and my brain....well.... :sad2:

Do they still make high schoolers memorize passages from famous works? That's when I learned both of those, as well as the soliloquy from Macbeth (Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrrow...it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing).

For some reason they stuck in my head. Lord knows nothing from college did.

The fire with the fireman is away from us but that does not matter with these winds because the smoke will have no trouble blowing here...but the amount of smoke there is there is probubly means that there is one around here also...news on about the fires know. These winds are supper hot and very very dry. Hate going outside, your eyes and nose and throat just dry up instantly.
I will be back need to go pick up Branden from school.

You're right...For me it was Thoreau... Miss Cunningham (who was about 60 years old) had a thing for him. All the Walden Pond and simplifying and living life deliberately really spoke to her...which required we learn to speak it!

I don't know about now...sophomore is doing American Lit this year but I don't think he has been memorizing yet. Reading, analyzing, annotating, comparing/contrasting but no memorizing.....I'd hate to think he'd miss out on that important life memory! ;)

I'm heading out to :drinking1 now. Ummmm...I mean, to play mind stimulating games while engaging in intellectual conversations--like we do here! :rotfl2:

Here's some PD for you in California. May the winds turn and the fires die soon! pixiedust: Stay safe, and pay attention to the news!

Well the smoke and sute falling here is coming from the fire that the fire that you are seeing on the news ...San Diego is on high alert/red flag warnings, but no fires here.

Very sad about the lost lives of the fireman...the animals, and homes...it has come to be an every year thing out here and most of the time they are started by crazy people.

After the fires out here a few years back, always makes me and my family nervouse cause we live on top of a hill and could very easily happen to us. WE have brush all through the hills up here...but we have remained lucky.

Even through those fires 3 years back we could look out our window and could see the fires all around us but never came to our hill/mountain.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys out in California! Between the fires and the earthquakes I don't know how you do it! :grouphug:

Okay finally home for the day.

Thanks for all the talk earlier of the laffy taffy and halloween candy it made me hungry and there goes the "eat only the minimum" pledge. Tooke the kids to dairy queen on their way to the pool for diving lessons (first pool day) and I had to feed them didn't I? and because I took them to Dairy Queen it meant pecan mudslide for me with lots of hot choc and carmel sauce.

Uggh! I will pay for this one! :sad2:

it's all this threads fault. I have been a good girl with my eating...saving all the extra for December and now ice cream and carmel/hot choc sauce.

I am gonna pay...I am gonna pay...I am gonna pay.

but until then I'm on :cloud9:

just think of how much better the deserts on the cruise will be...

I have been soooo good about my diet/eating that tonight I rewarded myself with a Carne Asada Burrito and a cookie....only about 10,000 calories and 500 grams of fat!!! but MMMMMM it was yummy and I loooove Mexican food.

The winds here have slowed down and it is starting to cool off. Feels good after all those hot winds today.

I still have to either make or order my T-shirt...who else has not also? popcorn::

So hmmmmm where is that shirt information again....

Gee sometimes the way I spell and type you people must think I'm drunk!!

Did I mention that in addition to being "MOM" and transportation chairman for the Jackson family, I teach, coach, and run my jr high's student government (all assemblies and dances), I am also staff for a trip from Washington Cultural Exchange to China this April. At the official closing dat at the beginning of October we had 22 kids - as of this morning (no one here listens to dates - they do what they want) we have 45 kids for 13 days in China over spring break. :teeth:

OK people, the T-shirts and more store is open for business...  Please note that I have not marked up the products -- I don't make money off this. The prices you see are what Cafepress charges. Let me know what you think.

If the link doesn't work, the actual URL is: http://www.cafepress.com/deesfunstuff

Scroll down to see all the selections.
OOOO there is... :teeth: moving up for those who like me who have not ordered yet.

I was soo bad tonight. No one home but me. :yay: ! I took a 10 minute shower! It felt so good. Normally, my alarm goes off at 4:45am and I am suppose to get up my 5am so that we can leave by 5:30. But more likely I get up at 5:10, take a 2 min shower, get dressed, throw pop-tarts at my kids and fight with my daughter (by making her drive - she has had a learners permit for 1 year but will NOT get her license, so DH and I are forcing her to drive every time she in in the car until she gets her license.

Tomorrow she goes to take the test again! But with Dad this time.
