12/15 passenger vans????

this summer theres going to be 8 of us going to dw, we have a mini van but a 15 hour drive from virginia doesn't really sound enjoyable if we're packed like tuna. we thought about taking two cars but too many things can go wrong. we also were thinking about renting a suburban or something similar to that but we thought we'd still be squished. we also looked into renting a small rv but it was rediculously expensive, so we just recently looked into renting a 12-15 passenger van. i was just wondering if anyone had traveled in one of these before and how "practical" they are????

Several things to consider.

1. Does it come with unlimited mileage. Lots of the larger vans have mileage limits.

2. Are you allowed to take the van out of state? Some don't allow it.

well, we've already checked into it and mileage isn't unlimited like we would have liked but you get 2100 miles and from here to wdw that's more than enough. and yes you can take the vans out of state because the man even mentioned to us that most families drive them down to florida. we haven't reserved one yet because we were still kind of iffy. more than likely that's what we'll do but if anyone else has any ideas let me know. thanks

We have taken 'extended family' vacatons w/two cars and have had a great time using two-way radios to keep in contact. Of course, you always know the route, etc.; and try and keep within a few miles of each other. We find the use of two way radio's between two vehicles makes the trip very enjoyable and eliminates the worry of 'losing' each other.

The other thing to check on is insurance coverage. I believe that some of the credit cards won't cover the larger vans, putting them in with "speciality cars" So check on that.
