12/10/05 ~ Anyone else cruising.....??

I will be bringing my soda to the wine & cheese as well. I don't feel like missing dinner due to a few sips of wine. :) What a day! I took the kids to a birthday party at 1:30 & we didn't get home until 6:30. Everyone had a nice visit. DH is off to class in VA so I don't have to worry about having dinner made for a couple weeks. I am going to start cleaning the house & putting everything that I find for the cruise aside. I guess that you could say that I will be starting to pack. Amy, we are within the 60 day mark...it is OK! ;)

Lisa, thanks for updating the website. What an AWESOME group of Disers we have going!

My goal is to have all those holiday packages sent out before I go, tree up, house cleaned before we leave.

I was able to get my Palo's res online plus DH signed up to play golf at Mahogany's Run in St. Thomas. He can't resist a good golf course! We're also bike riding on CC. That should be fun too.

I am sure DH will be keepin' up with the NFL while we are there. He's a football owner (I wish).........fantasy that is...... :teeth:

Sophia and I carved her pumpkin tonight, and we will be T or T'ing with her cousin in our neighborhood next Sunday afternoon. Sophia is going to be the "red dress" Belle which we got at a good price after Lisa's advice on buying online at the Disney store. I'm still campaigning for school board, so I will be wearing my button and answering questions.

At 6:00, there is a "pumpkin decorating" contest at the park in our neighborhood, with donuts and cider, so we will be going to that too . . .

It's really pretty here now in the midwest. The trees are changing color, the leaves are falling, and I finally had to turn the heat on in the house last Thursday. I can't wait for those winter heating bills this year . . . they are saying 30-70% increase over last year's costs for gas :sad1:

That nip in the air will make the cruise that much more to look forward to.

Stay safe Vanessa and Family, we will be thinking of you guys.

John

John, is it just your city or community that is going to TorT on Sunday? We wont be doing that until Monday night. The kids & I will be coming back from VA that afternoon just so that we will have time to get ready for it. I don't think that we will be out for very long though. Usually DH & I push the kids back to the other end of the neighborhood in their strollers. I can't mange both of them on my own. I also do not understand the need for the schools to be out that day. ????

We are going to drive to Albuquerque next weekend to see my brother and his family. The kids are out of school on Friday and Monday. Kind of a mini-Fall break. We will drive home early enough to go out Trick or Treating here on Monday night. We usually don't go out for very long because it always seems to pick Halloween as our first snow. (Well, I guess we got the first one out of the way last week). It is usually really cold on Halloween. Last year we only had about 15-20 kids come to our door.

Here is some more PD and hugs for you Vanessa. :grouphug: :wizard: :wizard:

When I was a kid, T or T here was always on Halloween night, and usually was from 6-9. Since my kids have been T or T'ing (and our son is 18), we have always had it on the closest Sunday to the 31st, and now from 3-5 so that the kids are not out after dark. Just another sign of how things have changed, and how we as parents have to be more in fear for the safety of our kids than our parents ever were.

Our kids are off on Friday for a teacher's in-service day - but we are not off on Monday.

I have also always taken our kids out in the neighborhood, while Amy hands out the candy. I put Sophia in our wagon, and it takes us just about all of two hours to cover the entire neighborhood. We have very generous neigbors, and she usually has a big bag full that I have to keep emptying as we go along into a grocery bag so she can carry it :teeth:

We will probably get close to 100 kids at our house. And every once in a while, we do get snow on Halloween, I remember one year with our son, trudging through calf deep snow during T or T.

John

Lisa;

I hate to be a bug but did you ever receive our e-mail so we can get into the other site? I probably sent it 3 or 4 days agao. I know you've been busy but I wanted to make sure I sent it to the right place.

Thanks,

Halloween is very quiet at our house. Our kids are old :scared1: , our grandkids that live nearby are too old to T or T (12 and 16). We live a little over 2 miles out of town and get no T or T'ers at our house ever. :sad2: That is the one thing about living on property out of town that I don't like. I really miss seeing all the little angels, goblins, princesses and pirates. We have lived here 18 years, so I am kind of used to it now. A couple of years I have gone into town and handed out candy for a friend just so I could see the tykes.

GOOD MORNING, CRUISERS!! :thewave: I just ordered DH's pirate outfit. We are all set1 pirate:

A little behind--

Mrs. Mork--tell your husband my husband works for Boyt and Bob Allen. He is probably familar with them.

Vanessa--how far north of Naples are you? My brother lives in Estero.

Hello all....

we made it through and have power to boot! I am suprised to say the weather casters were pretty much right on and it did hit Naples - (we were just there in August!!) Still big big gusts around the house and we have one tree and one huge bougenvilla uprooted. Many frangipani's (plumerias) snapped as well. I think a saving grace for us was that we had most trees removed due to the pool. Thanks so much for all your thoughts and kind words. They have now started the search and resuce in Key West since they had many who chose to ignore the evacution warnings. Hopefully no lives will be lost. The news showed Naples and some footage from Cancun...lots of damage....:(

on a happy note, we leave Wednesday and I am trying to get everything packed up right now.

Thanks again everyone!

Glad to hear you made it through relatively unscathed. I talked to my good friend in Orlando and said it rained heavily overnight with tropical storm force winds. They only lost power briefly.

Have a great time at WDW. Hopefully, crowds will be light.

Vanessa,

I am glad you all made it through ok and with power no less :) That way you can see what you are packing :) I told my hubby I was going to start packing and he looked at me like I had grown a third head. :rotfl2: I am going to grab all the things we won't be using until the trip, costumes, bathing suits, etc. Might as well get a start on it. We leave December 1st for WDW so times running out.

I have almost all of the Christmas gifts bought, just need a couple more little things and send them out. Our youngest dd birthday is the day we leave and I never put up the Christmas tree before her birthday, we try to keep the two events seperated so I guess I'll be putting up the tree on the 18th when we get home. There's nothing saying I can't decorate outside though. I wonder if I should put out the deer and moose on the front lawn or save them too? I live in a good neigbourhood but someone could take them. What do you guys think?

Anyway, I ramble :) You can tell when the kids aren't home, I always have more time to ramble :)

Have a good day all. :wave2:

We will be putting the tree up Thanksgiving weekend...or I will be anyway. I am funny about the tree. I like the ornaments spaced out just so ... so everyone else just clears the room or watches from a safe distance. ;) Glad to hear that you are doing so well, Vanessa! Have a great time at WDW this week!

We will probably put up our Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend too. We never put it up that early. We usually put it up the weekend before or weekend after my birthday (the 10th). We will be cruising then though!!!! I do have my shopping started. I have several small things for Rachel ( some will be for her birthday though). Brad and I were at Target the other day and he saw something he wanted to get for Jacob. I also have a small something for my dad and Brad's mom. Hopefully, everyone will give us ideas soon. I also started going through this years pictures to decide which ones I want on the calendars this year.

Deidre, do have any neighbors that are going to watch your house? If you do I think I would go ahead and put the deer and moose out. Where did you get your moose? I would love a moose on the front lawn.

Vanessa,

Glad you fared well... It rained and got pretty darn windy in Orlando, but not much else. They ended up closing all 4 Theme Parks at WDW, but after the weather cleared up they got the Magic Kingdom and Epcot open by 1pm, leave it to Disney to get the parks up in running 1 hour after a hurricane!

Hi Cristi;

We live in a neighbourhood where nobody deals with anyone else. I've spoken to my neighbour on the left 3 times in 3 years and the neighbour on the right we nod and say "hi" in passing. I'll be having a friend come in to feed the animals as our dog is terrified of kennels and strange places.

Anyway, we got our moose at Wal-Mart. I know Target and Wal-Mart both have them this year, here is the Springs anyway. They're around $40 - $50, I think.

Have a good night.

We saw a BIG blow up sleigh with Mickey and Minnie in it at Walmart yesterday. DH really wanted to get it, but we have no neighbors or traffic going past our house and since we will be gone much of the holiday season it seemed like a waste of $$ to this tight wad. It was very cute though.

Our tree will likely not go up until we get back on the 18th. We always have Thankgiving at our house for both of our families and since the kids all "went forth and multiplied" we now have between 35 and 45. We do sit down, not buffett (DH is a firm believer in the Thanksgiving table, or in our case tables. We have 5 or them). Folks start arriving on Tuesday and some stay until Sunday morning, so there will be no tree decorating by me that weekend. I'll be pooped!

Hi everyone! :wave2: Vanessa I'm happy to hear you all are doing fine. :flower:

Halloween here is usually very cold, raining or it is our first snow. Not to many kids go out and TorT. We have alot of other safe activites for the kids thru alot of the churchs & Recreation Center & the Zoo. We may get 20 or 30 kids at our house. My DD & I love to design & carve a cool pumpkin or 2. We try to out do each other.

We go to my mothers house for thanksgiving. She only live about 4 blocks from me 2 if you cut through some yards. :rotfl: The day after thanksgiving I drag the family out for Christmas shopping early! Like 5:00am. Stores open early. I don't think I will this year unless there is something I gotta have. :teeth: This is the weekend we put our Christmas decorations out.

Good night everyone Diana :wave2:
