12/10/05 ~ Anyone else cruising.....??

Angie , Hope you are feeling better soon. It has gone around our work too. So far I have been okay, but my DD has it now so my likelihood of getting it just went up. I have been popping vit. C like crazy.

Ok - I know it's early but has anyone thought about excursions....or any advice on ones you have been on prior?

I was going through the Passporter last night....

I think I am definitely going to add REAS, simply for the conveinence of the Palo ressies and to choose my dining rotation. DH and I both planned on getting a massage anyway. I just don't want to be running from the Oceaneer's Club to Flounder's to Palo to Vista...I mean this is a vacation!!

Hello everyone. I am checking in from our local library. :( Our harddrive failed Tuesday and we haven't been able to go shopping...which means about an hour drive for a selection. I really want to get something tomorrow. I hate not being able to shop for the best deal on a computer online. Anyone who has sent me an email with their info, I will post when I am hooked up again. Earthlink doesn't allow alot of extra space & I am sure that stuff is already bouncing back to people by now.

We wont be booking excursions since the kids haven't liked leaving the ship very much. I know that John & I have discussed the butterfly thing that I think is at one of the ports & the tram ride at St. Thomas. We tendered in last time so missed doing that one. We enjoy just walking around & if the kids will stay in the club for a couple hours we will really get to enjoy ourselves on the islands. We don't do excursions on CC simply because I have no idea when we would fit that into our day. When/ if we start getting bored relaxing on the beach, we might do one in a year or so. LOL! We take our snorkling stuff so DH can do that if he wants to & DS plays with it a bit. He will be able to practice more this summer though so he may be willing to do a little bit in December.

I have been making progress on our 11/03 cruise scrapbook & now have bought things to use for this coming cruise's book. I found a die cut of a tram going up the wire and a die cut of a wooden chair that with a couple blue pillows will do great for pictures of us on Deck 4 enjoying those chairs. :) Now I am planning the pages for it! LOL! I will be cutting out the deck plans and having a page of us on different places on each of the decks.

Well, I hope to be back online this weekend. If nothing else, I will borrow a friend's extra older computer to use for a week or so. I tried hooking our ancient beast up & our ISP doesn't run with Windows 95. Oops! Guess that there is no need to keep that one even for my inlaws. LOL! Hope to see you guys soon!

If you plan on doing the massages anyway I would definately do the REAS. I add up the cost of everything we got and it was only a few dollars extra for all the convenience. :goodvibes

I have been thinking about them too. I just haven't decided yet, I think we have a little time yet ;) . I doubt that we do one on CC because we like just hanging out on the beach. Last time we just rented a float and then DH rented a paddle boat. That was enough for us. I do want to do something at the other islands though.

I think we will do the REAS too. We didn't do Palo last time and I would really like to do that. Also, I want a massage. It will be my birthday so I think I deserve one. I think DH would enjoy one too, but I don't think I could ever get him to have one around here.

Lisa.... Sorry about your hard drive. I know how tough that is. Ours actually just went out too, but we have two on our computer so my DH was able to get most everything off of the bad one and put it on the other one. I guess there is some good being married to a computer guy. The things you bought for your scrapbook sound really cool. When my DS was a baby I went to a Creative Memories party and bought a bunch of stuff. I have done a total of about 3 pages of a scrapbook  I never seemed to have time or the space to leave it out until I could get time. Now we have a bigger house so once we finish with our little projects, maybe I could get started again.

I can't wait until it is time to go. I am completely addicted now.

I doubt we will do one on CC either...we are total beach lovers and it is so beautiful and relaxing there, we'll probably just hang out and play with the girls. I am just hoping it is warm!!

No baby yet....I have an induction scheduled for the 10th....BUT I am hoping to go into labor on my own!

When I was pregnant with DS I used the steam cleaner on the carpet and then that afternoon went into labor. (or maybe it was the time I spent with DH that afternoon   )

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! It's been so busy around here I haven't checked in for a while.

We haven't done any Disney excursions on our cruises before, we've just done our own excursions. In St. Maarten, we've been to Orient Beach and Le Gallion Beach - recommended by our cab driver. And we went to Trunk Bay in St. John both times we were docked in St. Thomas. This time, I'm not sure what we'll do in St. Maarten, but we will definitely go back to St. John! I agree that excursions aren't necessary at CC. Actually last time DD and I did go on a banana boat ride while at CC. It was fun and I may do it again if it is warmer. Last year, it was a cool day at CC :cold: which made the banana boat experience less than pleasant!

Where is the best place to find out about REAS? I've never really looked into it before but it sounds interesting.

Lillygator, I hope your baby arrives naturally in the next couple of weeks. You can always try taking long walks.

Hello all,

I was supposed to be in Washington DC right now - for a National School Board lobbying session with Congress - but my flight was cancelled, and I am now due to fly out later this evening on the red eye. I have to fly to Atlanta, Airtran's hub, and they are apparently getting some real nasty ice down there. Oh well, more time with my five year old!

Anyway, until the last cruise, I have always done at least one excursion, but the last cruise was the first one without my son. DW does not care for the excursions, and DD is too young for most. I don't fancy going by myself, so I just enjoyed the ship.

The last time we were on the Eastern though, we did a "Golden Eagle Catamaran" excursion with a whole group of DIS people, and had a great time. DS and I went, and loved the snorkeling, and the ride. On the way back though, several DIS'ers lost their lunch as it was against the waves, and very choppy. It was like riding a rollercoaster the whole way - FUN!

On St Marteen, DW and I along with DD who was two got off on the island, and hired a guy to drive us around. We had a great time, and got a nice tour of all the sights.

Lisa - sorry to hear about your hard drive - did you maybe get a virus? While I use a PC at work, all my stuff at home is on a Mac, and therefore almost totally free of the fear of viruses. A lot of people are switching to Macs for that reason, and Apple just came out with a $499 Mac Mini, where you can use your current keyboard and mouse and display from those WINDOZE :badpc: machines.

Good luck Lisa!

John

I was thinking that the Doubloon Sail and Snorkel on St. Thomas sounded pretty cool. I think the kids would really get a kick out of being on a pirate ship. pirate:

Who am I kidding DH and I would too. Has anyone done that one? On St. Maarten I thought the Golden Eagle Catamaran sounded good too, but just going to a beach close by sounds good too. Decisions....Decisions..... :scratchin

We've done the Golden Eagle Catamaran twice. Lots of fun. We like to do the island tours our first visit to any island. We enjoy the learning about the area, history and such. As we will be traveling with my uncle and aunt, ages 77 and 80 and their first cruise, this time I think we will book the island tour of St. Maarten again and then the St John island tour at St Thomas.

I'M BACK!!!! :) :) :) Gosh that was a painful week! LOL! We went to Best Buy this morning an hour away...the only place that had something besides Staples around us. They were WAY more expensive than the deal I found at Staples on Wednesday. They only had the display & were going to offer us an additional discount on it then the manager told me that since they added the additional 100 rebate Wednesday afternoon they have been flying out of there. We got a great Compaq for under 300 for the package!!!! :) That sure made it alot easier on DH to say ok to that purchase. :)

I did get your emails and will find the website tonight & update it. A friend is fighting with our harddrive to get whatever info he can off it before it totally dies. The kids are excited because once we find a deal on a harddrive, he will install it for us & they will have their own computer for their games. That means that they will stay off this one!!!! VERY good thing for me since DD always manages to find a way to try to install AOL. :( I will even be looking into going high tech & high speed this week! Our computer friend told us about the fact that you can downgrade to 2 or 3 megs from the standard 5 & save $10 a month. We'll also be switching our phone to Cox & end up saving money each month in the long run since we wont be needing callwave & forward on busy anymore!!!

We were looking thru the passporter last night since we couldn't get online and I found the Butterfly farm in St. Maarten & the tram in St. Thomas. Right now, DS wants to stay onboard but those things sound good to DD. I want to check out their websites to find out more info though. An island tour sounds like fun too. I want to find out more about the taxi rates vs. a rental car to find out which would be the best thing for us. I do know that I want to hit the local market across from the tender pier in St. Thomas. They had the BEST deals for souveniers there & there was some cute jewelry too.

Forgot to say that 2/10 is an EXCELLENT day for a birthday! :) Hope everything goes well for you lillygator. Can't wait to see a picture!

Hi everyone! Sure wish we were cruising now. It is cold and dreary here today. :cold: I can't get motivated to do anything. I just keep looking at everyone's trip reports and wishing I were there. :boat:

OK guys, just had another idea for a page on the website. A few have expressed the desire to get things done for the holidays before the cruise to avoid a stressful week rushing after getting home. Let's face it, noone wants all of that stress after a week on the Magic? :) How about setting up a check list of things to get done and as we get closer, like September, we can assign dates as goals for getting things accomplished?

address Christmas cards
bake Christmas cookies (to freeze)
put up the tree
put up the outside decorations
wrap presents
start packing
shop for Christmas dinner
finish up Pirate outfits
print out stateroom door sign

hi everyone! i'm trying not to get too attached to this thread altho' i lurk daily. just got wind that DHs division will be sold to the highest bidder! something won't happen until april. depending on the buyer, that will determine on whether he'll have a job or not. i'm still keeping my ressies for this sailing but don't know if i have to cancel or not. this makes me sad!

lisa, you are sooooo darn on top of things! thank you for taking the initiative!

:grouphug: ,
jenny

Jenny..... I hope everything works out for DH and his job. April is a long time to wait to find out. I will send some pixie dust your way. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Lisa.... That is a good idea to keep us all motivated before we go. You have on the list 'wrap presents' , but of course the hard part is buying all of the presents before then. :rotfl:
