12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

She looks beautiful in her first communion dress! I teach second grade CCD, so I get that thrill of "my" kids' first communion each May.

The teacher has been with the CCD 2nd graders for several years and she really is good at getting them ready and facing their fears. Afterwards she told us that it was easy and she wanted to do it again...it didn't taste as bad as she thought it would. LOL! I wish she had known that before she ran around the house screaming that she wasn't going for an hour that morning. OY!!! :lmao:

WOW! She looks so sweet and she has grown up so much! I miss our little girls! I also love that photo with Brack!

We are in First Communion count down here. Ours is this weekend. I wish we had a calm and organized CCD program in this neck of the woods. They are forever going over the time period or not communicating things or just generally all over the place. It's very frustrating. Once they scared the heck out of the 2nd graders because the new priest (part of the problem) kept the parents over in their class even longer than usual and the kids all thought something had happened to them because no one was there to pick them up. The teachers were even upset at the parents. Go figure. DH was livid. I must say I will be so happy when this is over and I hope third grade classes are not as stressful because I know DH won't be volunteering.

She is very excited about First Communion though.

:scared1: It's cold here in Baltimore! I just turned the heat on in the house. :confused3
Well it made it hear today - brrrrrr. I actually turned the heat off for the season before I left for my meeting this morning and when I got home I wished I hadn't.

Oh yeah I came on to say I just saw Iron Man. What fun. I love staying until all of the credits go by to see whether there are any additional clips and in this film there was one more post credits. So I love that. Next movie will be Made of Honor with McDreamy and I'm even behind two Grey's Anatomy episodes too!

Wait a minute what am I thinking next movie - what is the date - I want to see Indiana Jones. 'Can't wait. I am so glad Karen Allen is back - she is one of my favorite characters and Raiders is my favorite in the series although I also liked the one with Sean Connery.

I also learned how to install a the knob thingies that turn the water on and off. :) W announced that his cold water knob thingy came off so I set out to evaluate the configuration and a short time later the lightbulb went on and I did it!!! I put it all back together and it works! :) WHOO HOO! What a feeling of accomplishment on a Mother's day afternoon. ;)

Does this mean if i send you the directions you can fix the van too.....:lmao:

BTW, Love the picture of Brack and K....It's definitely a keeper princess:

I have a confession to make....after this year I am not going to deal with the extra stress of CCD classes. Trying to get the kids to sit through Mass and behave decently after they have been sitting in class 1 1/2 hours is not the best way to start your day. Everyone is so stressed by the time we get home at 12:30 that the rest of the afternoon is shot. :(

I don't think referring to the automotive parts as "thingies" would be something that I would want to tackle. LOL!

That is too much for the kids. Ours is an afterschool program (bus provided from the 2 elementary schools), and we still allow them some snack/refresh time first. And parents only attend an Open House night before the year starts (although there are more meetings/retreats in 2nd & 6th, the sacrament years).

Do they get confirmed in 6th grade there? Here I think it is 10th. I was in 11th or 12th.

Our parish is 6th grade for confirmation. And you can't just sign up for CCD in the sacrament years; you have to have at least one before that year as well; so you'll at least do 1st and 2nd, and 5th and 6th. Most people keep their kids in all six years, though (and this area is very heavily Catholic and Jewish, so Tuesdays are CCD or Hebrew School for almost everyone, it seems!)

Confirmation was 8th grade for me (in a different parish) many many years ago.

Both of those sacrements are two year programs here too. More important that attending the classes is attending church as a family. The priest will tell someone that their kid can't receive the sacrement because they haven't been to church all year. There is a home school program for CCD that I will get for them.

Trying to score some "Dreams" prizes here but no luck. :confused3

Posts!

I haven't been nearly as active on the DISBoard as I used to and it has taken me a very long time to make this last 1,000 posts. I miss the friendly banter of this thread. It's friends here that really got me excited about all things Disney. Thanks to you all for the wonderful memories. There can never be another DISGeek Group like this one.

Blessings and pixiedust pixiedust: to you all.

Hopefully when the other batch of geeks returns home it will return to its glorydays here at the ranch. :) I guess that those of us who are left on land can post and commiserate with each other. (((HUGS)))

Here is what the little princess is up to lately. She had her first lesson today.

Oh how I WISH that is how it was here. That is how it was when I was a child.
