12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

hey everyone!!
We also signed Samantha up for K, she is so excited.
Joy good luck to you and DH. Many prayers he gets that new grocery job.
Lisa - good news about school, can you believe the May repo is almost here?

Joy, is it a chain like whole foods or a local store?
Kim

I love coming here too... it's like catching up with far away relatives (that I actually like!).

It is a local chain, Nugget Markets. They were on the list of Fortune's top 100 companies to work for... I think they were #11. The stores are amazing... beautifully decorated, quality foods...

Anyway, he got a call yesterday! Quick phone interview and he is going in for an in-person interview on Tuesday. Cross your fingers!!!

Here's a photo from our Spring Break trip with our DS. He and I took the train tour.

Hello Geeks, still too much time at the hospital - although it is getting much easier. Either tomorrow or the next day, my brother will probably be moved out of ICU to a "step down" type of unit. He is communicating well now - got him a white board so that he can write since I am such a terrible lip reader. His sense of humor is intact - we finally got a bad nurse (sorry Angie, but she is retired military) and I have been calling her the General. He was supposed to get her again tonight, and he got the nurse before to change the duty roster! I brought a plate of chocolates for everyone and he told the nurse everyone can have some except the General.

For all of our Jewish friends who just recently celebrated their Passover, we just had ours, our Pascha (Greek for Passover) was today (Easter to everyone else). What a joyous Holy Week it was for my family as we feel that my brother was indeed given back to us from the dead. I got to go to midnight services last night.

For all of our Greek and other Orthodox Christian Friends,

Christos Anesti!

(Christ is Risen!)

John, what good news!! :yay: About the bad nurse.....there is a handful of bad people in any group. Sorry your brother had to deal with her for even one shift. I am glad he is willing to speak up (or write up!) for himself though and tell them he does not want to deal with her. :thumbsup2 Glad you were able to enjoy the holiday. I'M PACKED!!!! :woohoo: :dance3:

My brother was moved out of ICU at 1:00 today. But even though he wanted desperately to get out of there, he is now scared in the step down without the level of attention that he became accustomed to. They are 4-1 in the acute care unit, and totally different people. I told Amy he is very afraid and apprehensive about change. Afraid he will slip again into another infection. He is also lonely and bored.

I just don't know why hospitals don't give patients internet access. I would be chomping at the bit to have my laptop with me and talking to my friends. I bet this will change in time.

I am whipped. Non-stop day with a lot of stress today. I felt like I was running all day long and chasing my tail.

Oh, and the packing for the cruise . . . let's just say we have not done ONE thing. We will have to get on the ball this weekend or we are sunk.

John, glad he is improving. It is a big change from one on one nursing. We do not even have cable TV where I work! :sad2: The cable company evidently wants to charge for each hook up and the taxpayers would not appreciate paying for that. :sad2:

YIKES! Not even Cable?

For a VA hospital, the cable company should provide it to those people as a service. Charging for each hookup? How terrible.

I know, it is terrible. What is worse is that we have a rehab facility (skilled nursing) and we don't even have cable over there. The cost is too much. Some of the rooms have TVs that don't even have a remote in the rehab! But we are working on getting all the TV switched out so the old fellows can channel their TVs. Some of them cannot get out of bed by themselves much less go channel the TV. :sad2: And no one donates ongoing services. :sad2: We are getting TVs donated, that is why it is taking a bit of time to get them all switched out.

John that is terrific news about your brother. His sense of humor showing itself is a good sign. :) I hope that he is able to relax and continue to recover.

So Angie...how many bags????

Not many really. We each have a regular size suitcase, we have one smaller suitcase and a garment bag. One carryon for Dennis, Lowepro backpack that holds his laptop, his c-pap and his camera and lenses, one rolling carryon that we will put all our electronic charges and gear in, and my backpack. I plan to do laundry! :sad2: I will wash everything at SSR just before the cruise, the washers and dryers are free there and then once on the ship. We have enough for 8 or 9 days. THREE MORE SLEEPS!! :yay:  :dance3:

John - I am glad you DBro is in good spirits. You just have to give the smackdown on the General!!!!!

I miss DISNEY!!! We were there in August but we won't be there again until next summer....aaaahhhh!!!!!

Although we are heading to OBX in a few weeks.

Hi Brandi!

We really miss seeing you here!

Good night with my brother guys. Watched the first part of the Indian's game with him. Doctor told him he promises he will have him back in the classroom this fall. He also told him that not many people go through what he went through and live to tell about it. Most people would have kidney failure when they were as sick as him, but he refused to give up. Still a long way to go, but things keep moving in the right direction by baby steps.

Tomorrow, I get to prepare for the old "up Periscope" test. I want to make sure of a clean bill of health before we leave. Can't wait to drink that happy jug of prescription cocktail (NOT).

Good news, John!
(and isn't PJ doing the packing for you??!!)
I can't believe it's almost time for all you PC cruisers!
