Another sad day for humanity! Killing innocent children is another low.

All of what is happen in this world is designed to instill fear in us. Fear to live normally. It is wrong to have to live in fear.

One of my favorite books is Dune by Frank Herbert. I read it many years ago and in the first book was a litany about fear. I have used it for myself many times.

The Bene Gesserit Littainy against Fear.
Pg 19 of Dune

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Thank you, Brack. I needed that. :grouphug:

I was SO happy that last tooth came out for the same reason!

OK, so how many of us with 6yr old girls had them lose a tooth this week that was hanging by a thread? Sophia lost one too - yesterday! Darn thing was driving me nuts too- and when I came back from checking stores it was finally out!

Amy called me about the shootings - how tragic and terribly sad. It defies any attempt to understand it - hug your children tonight.

Brack, thank you for reminding me of that quote. I had completely forgotten it!

As to washer geeks - I have the new Kenmore top-loading HE, which just replaced the old Kenmore Calypso - just so you know the depths of my depravity.

Tonight I am going to go and test-drive the Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Maybe I will further increase my geekdom!

Well - Kendell isn't a 6 yr old girl - but he (7 yr old boy) just lost his 2nd tooth on Saturday!!! He was late getting them (13 months old before the first one!) and late losing them (just lost first one in August!). :yay:

actually I think we have one in the garage........we have many a thing from various grocery displays over the years. Nothing we have been able to use - well up to this point. I will John look. I may have secretly thrown it out on one of those days he was working and I was off.

V- Don't bother.

There goes one of my surprises. Those of you in chat last Friday may recall I mentioned I had another surprise - one that I needed orally pumped up! Well, I have secured two of the blow up Dole Banana People. A Mr. and a Mrs.. They're not HUGE, but they are about 3 feet tall! Their arms stick out too!

No secrets or surprises with you guys! :sad2:

I just got home from fundraising counting and turned on the TV to watch OLTL. Instead I saw the police briefing on the PA shooting. I cannot stop crying. Why does anyone feel the need to kill babies??? They weren't even around 20 years ago when this moron got upset. What is worst is that he will never pay for what he has done. I know that he has to answer to the final judge but that has to be a small consolation to those parents. They just said three more kids have died at hospitals. :( :( :( I can't wait for the kids to get home!

Lisa, I have been fighting myself all day. I just want to go pick her up and take her home with me where she will be safe. My stomach is just in knots...

What a day.

I just received word that my old massage therapist and dear friend passed away. She was 38. She had suffered from cancer...thought she kicked it...it came back and just tore thru her unbelievably fast. I'm in shock. She was a dear friend who never had a mean word to say about ANYONE. May she rest in peace.

Sounds like she was a wonderful person. I wish there were millions more out there just like her.

One of our favorite couple movies of all time is Joe Vs the Volcano. It is totally cheesy, but we love it. We often quote this line from the movie. "I have no response to that"....

I have not been able to check in since we first got home yesterday so I have not had a chance to update you guys on our weekend.

First of all I did not get packed on Thursday night so I grabbed McDonald’s on the way home (DS’s choice) and went home to eat quickly and get packed. We were on our way to my in-laws by a little before 7:00. It usually takes us almost 2 hours to get there. DH tried to call his parents along the way to let them know what time to expect us but he can’t get a hold of him for a while. He does get a hold of them around 7:30 and tells them we should be there between 8:30 and 9:00. The trip was pretty uneventful although DS kept poking DD and keeping her from going to sleep. We get to DH’s parents a little before 9:00 and the lights are out and the doors are locked. THEY ARE NOT HOME!!! I was a little upset because it is not like we just showed up. Thankfully DD was fairly content and DS was not dying to use the restroom. DH calls them and they says they will be home in a little while so we wait for 15 minutes for them to show up. I was annoyed to say the least. We have two little kids who are up past their bedtime who could have been in really bad moods after the trip and they didn’t think it was important for someone to be there when we got in or to at least leave a key or even tell DH that they might not be there. Who does that? :sad2:

Anyway we get inside and we try to put DD down to sleep close to 10. She is scared of being in a new place so I lay down in the room with her and the next thing I know I am waking up and it is almost 11 and DH and DS are coming to bed. DS was wired and it took him another 30 minutes to get to sleep. We had planned on being up early and on the road to Kansas City by around 8:00 but our plans changed when the kids woke us up at 8:00 the next morning.

We get up and get dressed and eat breakfast and we are on the road to Kansas City about 10:00. It took us not quite 2 hours to get to the Ren Fest. The kids were once again poking at each other in the car during the trip – especially DS. We got there a little before noon and by this point DD is getting a little tired and hungry so our first stop was for a quick bit to eat. We got a basket of chicken strips and fries that we all shared. It was really pretty tasty but of course all the food is so $$$ at these types of things. It was almost $12 for the chicken and fries, one diet pepsi and two waters.

After our snack we started wandering around to all the booths. This type of stuff is really not my thing so I was only mildly interested in most of it but DH loves this kind of stuff. The kids were pretty good but they are not near as interested as DH. About 1:30 we decide to get a little more to eat so we get two turkey legs to share. DS didn’t want to eat it off the bone (sound familiar anyone? ;) ) but DD really seemed to enjoy it. She ate quite a bit more than I expected. These were not huge turkey legs like you get at WDW but they were very tasty. We then walked around some more, caught some of the shows and I had one of my favorite Ren Fest foods….a pickle. I love dill pickles but somehow the ones at the Ren Fest always taste so much better. I wanted a funnel cake but I never saw the place to get one.

By around 3:00 we figured we should probably start finding our way out if we wanted to beat the dinner crowds at Rainforest Café. We ended up getting lost and it took us at least 30 minutes to find the main gate. It is not an easy place to navigate! We drove by the Kansas Speedway one the way back to the interstate and boy was it packed. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people and cars packed into such a space. We thought about eating at the T-Rex Café right by the speedway but when we saw all those people even DH thought it was a bad idea because you would not want to get caught in that traffic!

We got to the Oak Park Mall about 45 minutes later and we were able to get in for dinner right away. We were seated over to the side and DS had a great view of the room. Service was slow and the food was OK but the kids had a good time. DD would get scared of the big thunderstorm and she would want me to hold her for a few minutes but then she would relax again. She really liked the dinosaur chicken nuggets and French fries and DS devoured his cheese pizza.

After we ate we walked over to the Disney store and we all had a good time there! :thumbsup2 They were having their fall clearance sale so we of course had to get a few things. We got DD a Minnie t-shirt, DS got two Power Ranger toys, DD got two plush characters (Sorcerer Mickey and ice skating Daisy Duck), DH got a plush Timothy mouse for his collection and we got lunch bags for the kids for $2.49 on sale. DS got Power Rangers (of course) and DD got Ariel. The total was right at $50 so we didn’t do too much damage. ;)

We then got back on the road and we were back at the in-laws by around 7:30. It was time for DD to go to bed shortly after that so I went back with her and laid down again and once again fell asleep and woke up around 9:45 when I decided to just go to bed myself. I don’t remember what time DH and DS came to bed.

Sunday morning the kids were up by 7:00 so we got up, had breakfast, the kids played and then we packed to head home after lunch. DH brought our new car DVD player with us and he decided that this was the time to try it out since the kids had been in the car so much over the last few days. DD just looked confused but DS was in heaven (“I always wanted a TV in the car!!!!”). It was naptime for DD so she tried to stay away and watch some but she feel asleep. DS on the other hand watched videos and left everyone else alone…..it was a miracle. He was so excited and it kept him 100% occupied. It was actually a very nice trip for DH and I. :rotfl: Hopefully we will get the same results with both kids for at least a few hours on our trip to Florida.

When we got home DH had a message for his buddies that his game was cancelled for this upcoming weekend so we now have an unexpectedly free weekend. We don’t know what we are going to do but we might end up back in Kansas City visiting my friend Tina and letting the kids play together. We will just have to wait and see how this week goes….

Thanks everyone for the well wishes......

I found another nanner on ebay for about $9 USD and shipping about the same.

If i get it to FL, Do you think Shirley may have something at her store to blow it up?

I can just see putting it through the xray at the port, :rotfl2: or in our boarding pictures. :lmao:

You cannot take balloons onboard the ship filled with helium so I don't think that will be an option. :(

Also even with a very rough weekend I was down 4 pounds at my WW meeting today!!! :woohoo: That feels pretty good especially since the last half of the week was rough!

I have to pick up dinner tonight, pick up the kids and get home since we have a Parents as Teachers meeting for DD tonight at 6:00. PAT is a great program but I always feel so rushed on these nights. The last two meetings were cancelled so we really should try to keep this one. :)
