Thanks, Karen.
I'm guessing it was an LVAD (left ventricular assist device).
Still unrealistic medicine, but better than me thinking they just made a heart transplant decision within the hospital.
DH would go crazy or simply leave the room shaking his head (like he does with ER.)

Actually Karen left out one little point in her synopsis. Denny (the guy who died) actually was 2nd on the list to begin with. There were two donor hearts originally at a seperate hospital. (2 donors at same time; both at the same hospital; both matched type for Denny; How realistic is that?) When the docs for denny went to harvest their intended heart they found out that it wasn't going to be transplantable. (Dead tissue or defect or something like that.) The 2nd heart hadn't been harvested yet when they found out so Izzy knew if Denny was in dire straits then he had get the 2nd heart.

Marielle – You really must ditch ER (it hasn’t been good in years) and switch over to GA. It is a far better program. Yes they did “steal” an organ. Izzie (the blonde dr) was in love with a heart patient who needed a transplant. There was another patient higher on the transplant list so she lied and said he was worse than he was. Then the transplant group (UNOS?) wanted proof that he was worse (labs, etc.) to get the heart. Izzie cut the cords to the machine that was keeping his heart working in order to get the bad lab work and make him eligible for the heart – thus “stealing” if from the person who would have received the heart in the first place. I think if you watch one episode you will be hooked like the rest of us.

I watched the whole show again last night even though it was hard to watch at times. I can’t wait for tonight. I think in the end Meredith will end up with McDreamy but I prefer McVet for her. ;) I do feel bad for Addison though because no matter what I don’t think it looks good for her at all. I hope she sticks around the show though because I really like her character most of the time.

I kind of like the girl George is with but I don’t think she is the right girl for him or course I don’t think Meredith is either. :confused3 It seems like I am the only one. I don’t think they will last too far into Season 3.

I am very interested to see how Karev and Izzie end up this season. He was so great with her at the end of season 2. I know he can be such a jerk but I kind of like them together.

OK – enough GA talk, right?

Unfortunately I did not sleep well last night and I woke up feeling worse than I have all week. My throat is killing me and I have lost about 75% of my voice – good for those I work with but bad for you guys because I can still type! :rotfl: I really hope I start feeling a whole lot better soon. Both kids have the same thing and DD was just a crabby thing this morning! She has her 18 month checkup this afternoon (she will be 20 months old on Sunday  - I am so behind). I think she is due for at least 1-2 shots but since she is sick they won’t give them to her. It will probably be good to at least have them look at her because she has had this cold for almost 2 weeks now and it seems to be getting worse. :sad2:

It looks like Karen beat me to the recap. :) The medicine in the show may not be the most realistic but they have a great cast and fantastic writing. It is a very good show.

BTW - I made this comment when the season finale first aired but OMG did anyone else feel like they needed a cigarette after Meridith and McDreamy's trist toward the end of the show? Wow!

I also was going to mention that I don't buy clothes that need dry cleaning or ironing. I am just too lazy!!! ;)

Hope your family gets rid of this bug Becka..... :grouphug:

How did you watch the show again? Our ABC affiliate was showing an old movie with Bill Cosby, "Ghost Dad." Or did you have it on tape.

I think my family has almost gotten rid of that darn cold. However, DH has a dentist appt this afternoon. He's getting a root canal in prep for a crown and a wisdom tooth pulled. He won't be a happy camper for a couple days. I told him to ask the dr for a script for pain killers. Either that or i'm going in to the dr for some meds for myself. :teeth:

Oh, the heart transplant storyline is annoying me more and more and MORE. (note to self: it's a TV SHOW!)
Isn't the one who cut the LVAD wires a resident? (and probably not a CT surgery fellow/resident). Yeah, they're making decisions with UNOS.
Oh, and like the blood type is the only deciding factor. You need similar body sizes too.
(Disclaimer: I have no medical knowledge. I just have to listen to DH take all of the transplant phone calls in the middle of the night.)
And yes, I know ER has gone downhill, but I will stick with it anyway.

Kristina - Our ABC channel showed it last night from 8-10.

Yes she is an intern but the attending was working with UNOS until he was shot (boy this show sounds crazy when you type it all out  ). She was doing this without his knowledge (obviously) while he was at the other hospital ready to remove the heart from the donor. It really is not as crazy as it sounds and the show is more about the relationships than the medicine.

Marielle - I'm sure having a doctor in the house makes these kind of shows really hard for you.

But it is the whole pesonalities and humor weaved into the show. ER always used to be hard core drama....GA is really light an humorous while weaving some serious (if ya can call them that) story lines.

For example the lady doctor in charge of all the residents (Dr. Bailey) ... she often refers to the residents as "her suc* ups" (not sure if that is a filter word)...or she calls them her "a$$ kissing interns"..

.....are they interns or residents?????? I'm thinking they really are interns...

Anyway - I'm sure if you watch a few episodes you'll see what I'm talking about. Its just the way they inter-act.

In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the mo nsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, So . one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!!

Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren!!!!!!!

Sniffle, I think I'll take my daughter out of school and go on a cruise!

Thanks for sharing Karen. It was worth all that typing.

I thought all of the Palo ressies were gone at 90 days after about 10 minutes. Maybe something has opened up but I would try real soon to see if there is any availability at all.

You coming over to my house next Lisa? Ever since DH and I both started working full time again, my house is an absolute disaster area. I'm waiting for his first few commission checks to gauge whether or not we can afford a little weekly housekeeping service.

Our family consists of Paul, myself, and 2 dogs and I still can't keep up with the house cleaning. I keep telling Paul, If only we could hire someone just once a week to do a really good cleaing job :cloud9: Our neighboor has someone cleaning the house and the dog mess outside...What I would give.....

I don't mind the crappy medicine, really (drives DH crazy, though), as long as it's not the stuff I sort of know about. The heart transplant storyline is just too much. And the intern/resident thing drives me nuts. For example, DH was an intern back in 1990. Then a general surgery resident, until he completed the general surgery residency in 1998. Then he did a cardiac surgery fellowship, so he was a CT surgery fellow for 3 years.

(Oh, and they have no time to look beautiful or have decent relationships!)

But that doesn't make good television.

Mum,
We don't have Palo reservations; we can't make them yet because we're first time cruisers. And since there are no online reservations left (and most of the 90-day people couldn't get them!) we don't have to worry about staying up until 3am!

I haven't made Palo Ressies either. Not planning on it. I'm just gonna eat until I pop in the regular restaurants.

I can't believe that I forgot to tell you guys about what DD told me after school yesterday. OY! She walked up to me outside the school & pointed out a boy saying that is XX. I said OK. She then told me that he told her and another girl in their class that he was going to bring a knife in the next day and cut them. :furious: I stayed calm and asked if either of them told the teacher. Well, she kind of stumbled on that part saying that the other girl did and then yes. She looked like she was afraid that she would get into trouble for it. I had to go into the school to hang up a sign anyhow, so when I saw the principal in the hall I told the kids to sit down and wait for me. I told her exactly what DD said and she went to talk to their teacher. Apparently this happened at the end of school and her teacher called the principal on the radio after I talked to her. DD was afraid to go in today but said that he wasn't in school today because he had been mean. OMG!!!!! :furious:

What a wonderful world we live in.......I wonder how children can say and do things like this, wonder what the parents are like......The bad part is that children don't fully understand the consequences of what they say or do.....
