Gosh...Igrew up in Montana and Southern California, And when I was in the army all the Jersey and Pennsylvania guys called it Soda. I always called it POP or Soda Pop, but never just Soda. A Soda to us had ice cream in it.

(Late again). Funny, DW and I were just talking about that subject the other day. Did she bring it up?

I'll have a bottle of Pop! Soda still sounds funny to me.

I'm the opposite, Pop sounds funny to me, I never think of it as a drink when someone says they're getting a "Pop".

I don't hear anyone calling New Mexico, Mexico or New Hampshire, just Hampshire!

No. Rats!!! I would love to have a picture of that. I could make a poster. It was all legs. That may be why I have High Blood Pressure to this day.

That's because all of my old army buddies told me they were from Jersey, and I was used to saying it the way they did.

I have no idea? but most of us in NEW Jersey don't, at least those in what you might call the "boonies"! Those of us down here like to say South Jersey or Southern Jersey to differentiate where we are. Although, we here all the way south, think that even those closer to the middle shouldn't be refered to as south.

I'm thinking about this and I think we get that from the old 40's movies. I think they would say Jersey in the old private detective and gangster movies. Is that right, DrHug? (He's one that would remember those movies. )

Nope, the a is pronounced like a long E sound and the o like a u. We don't understand either, we are California/Montana/Colorado/Texas transplants.

I got my uncle a book once that was all about where sayings and such came from! Wonder if that is in there? Heck, who needs a book. I am sure it can be found on the internet.
