I might have enough money to charter one of these boats for the DIS Geek Special Cruise but I don't think they will be big enough. :confused3

We also would love to do an Alaskan cruise someday but it is another one of those things were I want the kids to be a bit older. I am thinking that Allie should probably be at least 6 before we go so we are looking at probably no earlier than 2011-2012 before we do one as a family.

Us too, Us too!

Sounds very good, Pj! Hmmm. What's for dinner tonight? Hannah and I will be pushing cookies from 6-8...

OOOOHHHHHHH:goodvibes We want to come along :rotfl:

We went through the public high school forms a few weeks ago and had to make all of the selections; every teacher recommended her for honors level, which is nice... but should a kid take honors in everything? And if you're involved in music, then you have no elective spaces available. But I didn't get really concerned with the process there, since she's switching to the Catholic high school. Now we have that packet... and things don't always translate. You're limited to 2 honors classes your freshman year... decide which subjects (so decide what's important now). Placement tests for math and foreign language. But the public school doesn't call the advanced math in 8th grade "Algebra I." They call it "Integrated Math" (combines geometry and algebra I). So there's nothing in her record to show that she could try to test out of Algebra I, because "integrated math" means nothing. Luckily they do have a long session for registration and information in a few weeks, with department reps there, so we can get everything clarified.

We do not have any sessions...

But around here you want all honors (whether you belong in there or not)...The kids in the lower levels act like monsters and not much work gets done. (i had teachers even tell me how much better the honors classes were)

Devon was recommmend for Spanish 3 next year (Technically she doesn't even have to take a language having 2 years of HS spanish in 7th and 8th grades but i want her to learn more if she can because many jobs closer to DC require someone to be bilingual)

i think DD will get two additional electives other than that... I'd like her to be on the Flag team (which means one elective would be Band Front).

From there i have to look at if there's actual tracks or anything to HS...

You know tech vs college prep or something...

We'll do a summer vacation week either starting July 28 or Aug 4. Fall field hockey tryouts/practices start Aug 13, so no vacation after that for Elizabeth.

Uuuuughhhhhh.... Who knew that course selection for high school was soooo annoying these days???? We're working through a thick packet of info with Elizabeth... it's like you have to figure out all 4 years at once so that you don't miss any prerequisites along the way.

Yeah, and then they'll change it after two years. What tangled webs they weave. I wish they would just go back to the old Models of high school. They seemed to work just fine. Our High School is changing over to the small schools concept next year. 5 different schools on one campus. It is DGS's last year of HS and he is going to lose the EXCELLENT counseler he had for 3 years. She found errors in his trancripts, etc., and corrected them, as well as helped him set up a good transition to college. Hopefully, she is an example of new trends. The old counselers (with DD and DS) were lousy.

Arrrgh!. If I had it to do over with my kids I would home school them, or move somewhere else.

Another counseler at that school told DGS that if he even got one C in the 4 years, that he would not be able to go to College. What a great thing to tell a student. That is setting one up for failure. Why try anymore if you get a C, right? BS! If that were the case I wouldn't have my Doctorate. I had a D+ average in high school. (I hated homework... LOL). Luckily DGS is a self starter and has already gotten several letters and e-mails from colleges that are interested in him. He had good PSAT scores.

Oh well, I better not stay on my soapbox. I just know that Education is important to freedom, and that it should not amount to brainwashing. That is another soapbox altogether. ROTFLOL!

Cruises on Disney are good for education.

I think all of you who are even *thinking* about joining me and Becka on the 12/6/08 cruise should come over and chat it up... otherwise the thread will get buried...

And if we can't convince Lisa to come along, I'm going to have to channel her and get my own clipboard and make some dining arrangements... I might have to borrow the html templates for the website too :)
