One a bit too close. So I also got to clean the carpet today to get all the blood out from the nail . . . :sad2:

Thank goodness for the Hoover Steamvac!

Wish i had one of those vaccuums. We have the little hoover cleaner thing like a dirt devil but it doesn't hold a charge for long and doesn't work while plugged in.

As for nails:
My DH wanted me to just take Abby to Petsmart to get nails done but she's kinda a willing victim when she's at the dog wash in the tub and i have help to hold her. Saves us $9. They charge even more for nail trims at the vet though. I'm really careful since that incident last spring that ended up costing us over $1,000. (Me cutting one nail twice by accident, using ace bandage to stop bleeding, abby eating said bandage, two day vet & ER vet stay, and about 15 xrays later, bandage re-imerges other end.)

So.... what's on your Thanksgiving menu this year? I'm looking for some ideas -- maybe wanting to try something new.

I have sop far:
Deep fried turkey (x2)
Mashed potatoes
Stuffing (Stove Top - nothing fancy)
Green bean casserole
Creamed corn
Candied yams (my in-laws usually bring... I don't care for them myself)
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Dinner rolls

Maybe I'll make a cheesecake too -- better yet, I'll BUY a cheesecake and not worry about baking.

Thanksgiving is THE event of the year with our families. Both mine and Dennis' come to our house and it is ALL about tradition. DGS 17yo and just working his first job is fretting big time about having to work that day. He plans to talk with the grocery manager and offer to work EVERY other holiday if he can just have this day off. The includes Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, and New Years Day - he would include Christmas but they are closed that day. DrHug also always negotiated for TG off, working Christmas and NY when he worked in hospitals. So, the menu, along with everything else cannot vary. It's tradition. Sit down dinner with matching crochet tablecloths (5 of them) made by my mother, china plates (mis-matched picked up at yard sales and such over the years), oh and did I mention that the menu cannot vary! Made a different kind of jello one year and "hey, wheres's the pink stuff was heard all around." :sad2: So we have:

Turkey roasted (x2) I do have a killer recipe I got from Emiril. Soaked in a brine overnight. If anyone is interested I can post that. Makes very juicy, tasty bird.
Ham
stuffing
mashed potaoes
gravy
jello salad (cherry jello, whipped cream and bananas-no nuts)
candied yams
peas (DrHug's mom brought this tradition to our holiday years ago and we continue)
fruit salad (kind of an ambrosia thing)
rolls
cranberry sauce - the jelled canned stuff
black olives - lots of these so the kids can load up their fingers and giggle while we eat
pumpkin pie - I make 4 to 6 of these depending on the crowd.
apple pie - 2
pecan pie - 2
lots of whipped cream

We have a smaller crowd coming this year, only 35. My sister's crew will not be coming because of a high risk pregnancy going on up in Washington State. With all of them we were looking at 50 this year - would have been a record for us. The family just keeps growing and growing. OY!

I make all the food. After dinner I sit with my glass of wine while my neices and DDs do the clean up.

You've not seen many scary movies have you? The ones I hate are Exorcist (all of them) and other demon movies.
I don't like scary movies, but I do LOVE the old Hickcock type stuff that was more about suspense than gore. Rear Window is one of my all time favorites. And Jimmy Stewart  oh my. I thought he was HOT when I was younger! :teeth: I really like all of Hickcock's stuff.

Do you really like the fried turkey? I have cooked every Thanksgiving but one. My BIL made a fried turkey and he over cooked it...it was so dry and crunchy! Now I have all of our Thanksgiving dinners!
We have had fried 3x at 3 different homes and we prefer roasted also. Roasted slow and juicy. Yum!

We got mail today. :confused3

Yikes! I forgot to have dinner!
Our mail lady drove a package up to the house (OT) on Friday and said they would be off on Saturday for the holiday. I commented that I was surprised to have mail Friday because I (Fed emp) was off Friday for holiday. She said nope, only Sat for them. :confused3

Any other old-timers like me out there remember the other holiday tradition movie that was always on? (although I cannot remember the holiday when they played it)

Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella!

I really enjoyed that one as a kid too
(even though it was a girly movie)

I also remember watching the Sound of Music every year. :) I don't remember seeing the Cinderella movie every year like that.

We like going to PC instead of TS for the first lunch. It is more settled & the kids will actually sit & eat. It is also much easier to go drop your bags off first and then go get some food. :)
Yep, I prefer not having to wander around with a tray full of food searching for a table. :thumbsup2

I was not ignoring you. I try very hard to stay focused when I am catching up and don't peek ahead. :rotfl:
:lmao: :rotfl2: Me too! Then I sometimes find I said something that has already been said by someone else. :lmao: That's ok though, ups the post count. sssshhhhh!

Yeah, the exorcist freaked me out years and years ago....I got up the nerve to watch it a few months ago, still freaky but I go thru it...

The movie that I will NOT watch is Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the version with Donald sutherland.....I saw that when I was 7 or 8 and had nightmares all that night. To this day my brothers won't let me live it down. "Look, the people are coming out of the pods!!" :scared1:

I can't watch any of those horror flicks....Friday the 13th, Exorcist, Freddy Kruger, etc.

Now those other movies . . . never seen them, have no desire, and did not go to them as a teen. (Exorcist, Shining, Carrie, et. al) I do NOT like blood, guts and gore for my entertainment.

John1
Me too! Don't watch them!

BTW - I liked the monkeys - thought they were cool. We used to pretend WIzard of Oz when we were kids, and all of us boys always wanted to be the flying monkeys LOL.

John1
Uh huh! Just another silly excuse for the boys to chase the girls! We were on to you guys!! :lmao: :rotfl2: ;)

I plan to put it in the scrapbook of course! :cool1:

I just saw John's post again. The one movie I like is the Shining. Jack Nickelson cracks me up in that one. People have said that I am sick to laugh at any of that movie. I saw an interview with him a couple years ago that said he played the role as a comedy. :thumbsup2

Thank goodness for the Hoover Steamvac!
(Do you have one of those Angie? About the same price as an iPod!)

John1
Nope, we have very few carpets now, mostly pergo type flooring and tile downstairs.

I don't think it will melt at all. He thinks it will melt in FL. Do you think he is nuts? Do you think the chocolate will be fine?
