I need a parenting opinion...do you guys think I am being too hard on DS?

Today at school a little girl had her 5th birthday and she brought in a plastic flower that she had been given for her birthday. Sometime today Nathan destroyed the flower and it obviously broke the little girl's heart. He was put in time out and apologized at school but I think more needs to be done. DS has been "saving" money in his piggy bank to spend on the cruise. I told him that tonight after dinner when DH gets home that he was going to take some of the money out of his piggy bank, I was going to take him to the store and he was going to buy her a new flower to give to her tomorrow. DS looks really upset about the whole deal but I really feel like I need to make a stronger point here and having to spend "his" money and buy a replacement seemed like a good idea.

So what do you think? Appropriate punishment or too tough? He is 4 1/2 for those who might not know.

Thanks!
That is a perfect punishment. I think that will have a lasting effect. I would certainly go forward with it. You also have to remember my DH and I are both rather strict (I am a teacher you know.) Honestly, IMO...go for it. That is a perfect punishment.

That is cool!!! Does she even ever get the melody??? :rotfl: ( I am bad...I know!)

Actually this spring we are doing a Disney concert!!! It will be so much fun!
There was one piece last spring that the violas had the melody... can't remember what it was... and the violins were annoyed about it.

She came downstairs excitedly playing for me and asked if I recognized what it was from... (she hadn't told me about it yet)... and of course I did not. Yeah, like you can recognize the POTC movie theme from the viola part alone... (well, maybe you could Brandi!)

And Brandi -- what was the outcome of your election?!
I am the new pres. I will take over in Jan.

Update on DS:

We took $5 out of his bank and went to the craft store where he picked out a very big pretty pink flower. It also had a little smaller pink flower attached to the same stem. DS made the comment that now she would have two flowers. He really did seem to feel sorry and it took him a while to pick out the flower he wanted. He seemed to be putting some thought into it although he was a little upset that they did not have the "exact" flower he tore up. I will take all of this as a good sign that he understands what he did was wrong and that he really was mean to this little girl. He will give it to her tomorrow morning when he gets to school. It costs him $2.68 - not a whole lot of money but I think just the act of taking his money to pay for it will make an impression on him.
Good Job Mama!!!!

I'm so great at the lift me up guy/family or not so serious blues.
I just left her a long message of prayers and thoughts. I wasn't sure what else to do but felt I needed to call.

long hair freaky people need not apply.....

OMG - Johnny hit 4 home runs tonight. He is on some kind of high.

Just kidding - me and my political fence riding!! :)

"I'm going out tonight in my red high heels"......KP!

Nah - I have been know to ride a fence once or twice myself. ;) Actually I probably lean Democrat but I think I really am more of a moderate and neither party is a good fit. Of course at my parents house I am the evil conservative Republican daughter and then at work I am a bleeding heart liberal who is just too young to really understand how wrong I am. :confused3 It is so confusing.... :sad2:

I hear you....whatever you choose is not right no matter what!

And - as far as the kids go. I ordered a bit from OT, but I am not sure what you let Allie have...(little pcs, glue stick etc)....I got a couple "make a sticker" underwater sets good for all I think, but a couple make a magnet sets..let me nkow I won't bring anything to the table not allowed!

Thanks for thinking of us V! Unfortunately Allie still loves to put everything in her mouth so I try not to give her things with small pieces. I keep hoping she will outgrow it soon but she shows no signs of slowing down. I blame it on her continued use of her binky at night but I haven't had the strength to get rid of it just yet. She usually does OK with crayons, etc.. for about 5 minutes and then she tries to eat them too so she usually ends up losing them (and has nice colorful teeth). :sad2: It is really something that I just have to make a judgment call on when I see what it is.

Don't feel like you can't bring special stuff to the table for your kids without including mine. I plan on bringing a few books and other toys too so hopefully everyone can stay entertained. I also hope we have good servers willing to entertain a little as well. :)

Becka - no, no, no! Don't worry I am planning our goodies for all four of our kiddos! Haley sill eats playdoh and pretty much anything. My problem is....Samantha can have a project, but Haley feels she needs it too!
I found a couple cute zoo animal string activites that may be ok for all!

That I understand completely. Allie also feels that anything Nathan has is fair game for her and that is usually the source of some of our biggest fits. In fact his Leapster has been a big battle with Allie. She is dying to get her hands on it and we won't let her touch it! Oh the fits we have had over that one... :sad2:
