12/04/2010 Eastern MAGIC - CHIP 'N' DALE'S CRUISIN' NUTS

We are staying the night before at the Country Inn and Suites. We reserved the cruise special that includes free parking during the cruise and free RT shuttle.

We are also staying at Country inn and suites. stayed there 2 years ago. it is nice and they have a hot breakfast in the morning. Also, started a pile for the trip, some is summer clothes that would have been packed away.

For anyone booked or planning to book the Dream, you may want to check this thread (post #11 gives the facts) about dining and show times (BOTH of which will be assigned for crowd control). Well, DCL never claimed to have "freestyle" cruising. I just hope this doesn't spill over to the Magic and Wonder!

PACKING: I'm sure most of you are well aware, but for anyone not familiar with the wild and crazy variations in weather that both Florida & the Caribbean often experience, you MAY want to pack at least a few warmer clothes "just in case." ;)

I remember when we were there in Oct 2 years ago. The weather went from the 70s to the 50s overnight while we were in Florida. It was a bit crisp, but we did pack a few sweaters and were fine.

October is usually beautiful weather. I often still wear a t-shirt when it's 50, but this will be December. Last year we had some VERY cold days mixed in with the warmer ones. Just a few weeks later in early January it SNOWED (flurries) the day my mom and I boarded the Magic. It was windy and 38 degrees (low of 32). My boarding attire included a leather blazer and wool hat, and my mom wore a hooded parka! I'm not saying it will be cold, but that it COULD be. So not a bad idea to check the temp/wind forecast a few days before sailing. Personally, I adore cooler temps because I hate to sweat - lol. Again - Forgive me for being so OCD about packing. I think I was born that way! ;)

Most likely it will be clear, sunny and around 70 degrees. :beach:

My first cruise it was pretty chilly on deck for the sailaway party -- I had shorts and was freezing my legs off. Didn't have a chance to change before the party, but the rest of the cruise was beautiful weather.

Now I just need a stateroom assignment...

Just realized I scheduled myself for 5 12 hour night shifts at the hospital right before we leave. I will really needing a vacation then. I hope I dont get sick like I did on the last cruise. Thank goodness for Mexico, I was able to by antibiotics without a prescription.

That is interesting, we were probably in the same pharmacy.. I had a cut on my foot that we were having trouble getting healed and the walking was messing it up; so we went in there (right by port) and dug up some cream that seemed to work.

After the last cruise I was able to 'hold off' the illness until we got off the ship, then it felt like a bus hit me 2 days later, we stayed for an extra week and I spent most of the time feeling like a bus hit me. I got my flu shot early this year..I don't feel as rushed as before since we are cruising in Dec not Oct.

Who else is putting up Christmas decorations BEFORE they leave? I am. One last thing I have to do when we get back!

Good heavens, plutoNme! I'm sure all of us are also hoping you won't get sick ... for your sake and ours! Yikes! Working all those 12-hr night shifts before sailing could certainly lower your resistance. Take care of yourself!

BeachPartyof3 - I will put up Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving. It's necessary because with my sister and nephew both being with airlines, we never know when we will need to "celebrate" the holiday (dinner and such). That could even happen while I am on this cruise, so at least I won't have to come home to complaints about not getting it done! :upsidedow

I will hopefully be somewhat decorated by then too. We normally do it Thanksgiving weekend, but we will be in Pgh til Friday. I will just cut back on decorations since we will be gone so much the month of Dec.

No Christmas decorations at our house most likely this year. Oh well there is always next year.

I decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and into the wkend (I have so much stuff) But being I buy a real/fresh tree every year, I will get my tree on the way home from the airport (I did this last cruise also) put it in the stand w/ water and the next day deorate it :) I just love Christmas

Wondering how crazy DCLs website will be since they are posting 2012 cruise dates today.

Atleast I will know what we want to hopefully book while onboard!

If you are talking about the Fantasy, I'm guessing they will only release dates for the early part of 2012 at this time. I think the webinar is primarily about the Dream. I'm not holding my breath for any amazing news though, given DCL's recent history with web announcements, but anything is possible. I agree about booking aboard. IF I book again, I want that Platinum OBC. Those who book through a TA can often get a nice OBC as well, but I like to keep total control of my own reservation. :surfweb:

so April 2012 is when the Fantasy will be launched...... I had heard Oct 12, so that is awesome news! :)

need to work on Gabbys Halloween costume...she and her friend are going as "its raining cats and dogs." didnt want to buy her a rain jacket, so I bought ponchos instead.

Anyone interested in 2012 check out this thread. Since the quoted "prices starting at . . " are BEFORE taxes and government fees, that means the lowest INSIDE stateroom on the Fantasy will start at over $1,000+ pp, so $2,000+ per stateroom, for 2 guests. And still the small cabins and 4,000+ guests. Again, I have to say no thanks! I hope the Magic (and my relatively spacious verandah stateroom) will stick around for awhile. ;)
