12/04/2010 Eastern MAGIC - CHIP 'N' DALE'S CRUISIN' NUTS

Hey guys, I've been traveling so much this summer, right now in NC with friends. Their son just got married and the ceremony was beautiful. Anyway, these are the friends that will be traveling on our cruise with us. We have been friends for about 28 years and have been on lots of vacations together, from Disney cruises to trips to Europe. I have finally talked enough so my kindred spirit will now be joining DISboards and our Crusin' Nuts! She already knows what their FE is...:cheer2:

We are going to get her online today so everyone can give her a warm welcome! I see lots of new cruisers, Welcome everyone!!! I'm so ready to cruise...

Outstanding! :thumbsup2

Be sure she signs up to join us using our sign-up form so I can add her to our list. The more the merrier!

Saturday, we registered online and booked the Afternoon Beach Bash on St Martin, maybe the third time is the charm. The other two times we booked, it was canceled because of high seas. We are still undecided what to do about St Thomas, we really dislike tendering because we did it last year and it was quite time consuming and a long hot wait in line to return to the ship. We would like to go to St John again.

For any who, for whatever reason, decide to stay aboard the Magic while at St. Thomas/St. John, don't forget that you won't be the only one/s (Me, me, ME!). :goodvibes

I'm thinking sit-down noon lunch at Lumiere's, wandering around the ship to photograph my plush & beanie chipmunks in various locations while it's uncrowded, maybe have a Cruisin' Nuts "mini deck party" with any who are interested. Who knows? I only know that I'll be staying aboard this time.

I'm donaldsdoll, friends of dwtraveler...this is my first experience using any kind of board...not really very techy...no texting, no facebook, etc...a real novice....but looks like fun and very imformative...talk later...:yay:

If you don't care if I ask - what have you done in St. Thomas/St. John in the past?

This is our first trip there and are pretty excited. In light of that - our first cruise was last year - and we were VERY disappointed with Nassau. It was a dirty dump with really expensive stuff that I can get cheaper back here in the US.
We thought that Atlantis was WAY too expensive - but we really did enjoy spending time on the ship when we got back it was pretty deserted!

We are getting SO excited for this vacation - we can't wait! :)

Greetings to all new cruisers! Donaldsdoll, that's ok, we're all here to help each other out. Fire a PM if you have a question.

I can start making my reservations at the 90 mark Sept. 5th. I live on the west coast. So does this mean I could start making my Reservations at 9pm on the 4th?:thumbsup2

I believe the timing would be correct - but be ready for the DCL site to be laggy.

Tip: do ONE reservation at a time. If you try doing more than one reservation at a time and the site kicks you out, you have to start all over again. At least that's what I've heard, but I didn't have to deal with that the first time, as I wasn't doing Palo or any spa stuff.

I am, however, going to at least try the rainforest room this time.

Just wandered around, sightseeing and a little shopping. I didn't do any organized excursions. I know they can be nice, but not my cup of tea unless it involves exotic wildlife. I'm also not a beach person, even though I was born and raised in San Diego CA and currently live 7 miles from Daytona Beach FL. I like the beach, but only a few times a year. I'm a relatively pale, blue-eyed, born blonde who sunburns easily. I do not swim and I don't sunbathe.

So why do I cruise? Because it's Disney! It has Chip 'n' Dale and other characters (Watch out, kids - I'm your competition!) ... I enjoy the nautical atmosphere (on the ship and on my Navigator Verandah) ... It's one of the few times I dress up (dining) and reminds me that I can - lol ... Eating other than my "usual" foods for a week is a nice change ... I love the shows, the deck parties, the clubs ... I like the crew (but miss Capt. Tom!) ... and sometimes I like just lounging on Deck 4 and breathing in the sea air. The reason I LOVE being on the ship when most people are on the island is because it allows me to better enjoy the ship, without the crowd. I cruise for the ship, not the destinations. I'd be happy to have nothing but days at sea. :goodvibes

I hope you enjoy St. Thomas, but IF there are any warnings from DCL staff regarding violence on certain parts of the island, take them seriously. BTW - I totally agree about Nassau!

Thanks taswira!

We are looking for a little adventure and a little relaxation - so we are hoping that we can decide on an excursion that will give us a little of both!
We are cruising with really good friends of ours - they used to be our neighbors, but they had to move to a different area of the state for the husband to do the last two years of his med school. It just so happened that December was the end of his final rotation - and the time they allot to do interviews for different residency programs - but he decided on his programs of interest last year - so they are coming with us - which we are SO excited about because we REALLY miss them and can't wait to spend a close quartered week with them HAHA We have already decided that we will be using the fitness center showers a lot! :lmao: We will all be in the same stateroom!

Can't wait!

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Haha - YES, you will DEFINITELY want to utilize those fitness center showers!

Shari-- this trip we are going to spend more time truly exploring the ship. :) I love how empty the ship is on port days. Last time we stayed until lunch time before we ventured out...we had the pool to ourselves. I love to walk around when the shows are going on... the gift shops are not as busy then too.

The kids said they dont mind not swimming as much either. :)

I know on Sunday night I will be alone....The Steeler game is on at 8:20 (probably 7:20 ship time.) Last year dh and son went up and watched it on the jumbotron! We will be easy to spot that night....the only family dressed in Steeler jerseys for formal nite pictures. :rotfl2:

As for St Thomas, personally I am going golfing at Mahogany Run. Extremely beautiful course. Its a bit pricey, but well worth it. Christmas gift to myself. I believe there will be double digit cruise ships in St Thomas that day., UGH.

Yeah, donaldsdoll and I were just able to book the Candlelight Processional for Sat the 11th, the evening we get off the ship! Dinner at Chefs 'd France, one of our favorites. The moderator that night is Whoopie Goldberg. It will be a wonderful ending to our cruise and friendship time together as they will be heading home the next day. This will be the best kick-off of the holiday season ever! :santa:
