12/04/08 3 night on the wonder: My Wedding Cruise!

Well we just booked our "planning cruise" so we'll be on the Wonder in 2 weeks (March 27 3 night). We will be meeting with the Pastry Chef to talk about our cake and viewing a wedding on Castaway with our Coordinator (on-stage dress with nametags on, since that's the only way we can watch it) to see if we have any questions. :)

That's awesome! I hope you get all of your details worked out...or maybe you not...that way you'll have an excuse to do a second "planning cruise". :rotfl2:

You should snatch up a whole bunch of DCL stationary (the stuff that comes free in the stateroom) to send to your guests that are joining you at your wedding. That would be kind of neat. I don't know that you'd necessarily do the invitations on those, but I'm sure there's something creative that can be done with them.

I plan on having a fish extender on my door and I have already started purchasing goodies to put in other DISer's fish extenders. I know they are more popular on the 7 day cruises, but I'd like to make them popular on the 3 day cruise, too!! :goodvibes

Is it too early to start a list of everyone (i.e. Dis name, Cabin #, Kids & Ages) that would like to get in on the Fish Extender Exchange? I'm in! :yay:

In my opinion, it's never too EARLY ;)
(Edited to correct that! I originally put it's never too late! LOL!!! DUH!)
Would you like to create the list or would you like me to? I thought about just making a spreadsheet and emailing it to everyone who is participating in a Fish Extender Exchange. And then as our list grows, we'll just update the spreadsheet.

I'm so excited! I didn't think too many people would be interested in doing that since it's just a 3 night cruise.

By all means, YOU can be the listkeeper! (please?)
And I'm with you - it's never to early!!

Even if it is just a few families, I know my boys will absolutely love the giving and receiving of "treats"!

We'll be in 2 staterooms (7600 and 7602), but only one FE.
DH and I will be in one room with our twin boys Jack and Drew, age 7.
Nolan, our 9 yo son, will be in the connecting room with my parents.

We think a list would be great. Even people who aren't interested in Fish Extenders might want to be part of the list. It could be a way for people to get to know each other before the cruise. Perhaps the list could have a column that has names, ages, stateroom numbers and then a column that says "participating in fish extenders? Y/N". Just a suggestion....

So, I guess I'll start...

The Jamieson's

Cheryl & Richard (mom and dad)

Alyssa (girl age 9)
Alex (girl age 12)
Daniel (boy age 15)

Stateroom #: 8526

Fish Extender? Y

How do you want to share email addresses. Not sure I should post it in the forum?

Thanks

Sounds like a good suggestion for the list.

Anyone who wants to be added, just PM me with your email address. And if you don't want to post your stateroom number on here (I know there are some people who are not comfortable doing that), just PM me with that info too!

I'll start on the list today! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,

Just to make sure everyone knows, "Luckymomoftwo" has graciously started a list of people who are going to be on the 3 night Wonder Cruise Dec 4, 2008 and are interested in getting to know each other ahead of time or would like to participate in the "Fish Extenders" activity.

If you are interested in being added to the list please let her know. Anyone who wants to be added, just PM Luckymom with your email address, names, kids ages etc...Our kids are 9, 12 and 15 and are excited about meeting other kids on the cruise.

So far I think we have about 4 or 5 families that have joined the list!

We can't wait!

Hello all I haven't checked in for awhile, what are fish extenders?
I can't wait to go on the cruise, I haven't booked a flight yet, too early for good deals, so we may go a day or two early or stay late, I'm not sure.

Have a great day

Cassie,

Here is a link to a thread about Fish Extenders. On the outside of each stateroom on Wonder & Magic, there is a fish that DCL / DVC can leave mail for you in. At some point, someone decided to come up with the idea to make a fish extender...it's just something with pockets in it that other people can leave you goodies or notes in. There is one DISer that sells them on Ebay and they look REALLY nice! Let me know if you want to join in on the Fish Extender Exchange on our cruise.

Hi Cassie,

We haven't booked flights yet either as its too early to get deals. We also weren't sure what to do and were thinking about going early or staying a few days after the cruise. Most flights to where we live (eastern Canada) leave early in the morning from Orlando so we were worried we'd miss our flight on Dec 7.

We eventually decided to go back to Disney at the end of the cruise. The reservation people were great! Instead of getting on the Disney bus and going to the airport, we will be getting on the Disney bus and going back to Disneyworld. The extra transport cost was really cheap, about the price of a coffee and sandwich, no kidding. We used the recently distributed 40% off code and booked 2 nights at the Grand Floridian Dec 7 - 9 for almost half of what it normally costs.

We are so excited to be doing the cruise and going to Disney! If you are thinking about doing something like this you will have to call Disney Res for your hotel room at Disney and Disney Cruise Lines to organize the transport to Disneyworld. They are separate bookings.

Thanks

We are going to book this cruise this week end. We have never done a disney cruise so any and all advice is welcome::yay: We are interested in the fish extender. Has anyone gone the night before and stayed at the port? If so how did you get there from the airport. Thanks for all advice.

My husband,me and our 3 year old daughter are going. I think we are getting the standard inside

:welcome: So glad to have you join our group!! We've stayed the night before at the Radisson. We rented a car at the airport because the cost was pretty much the same to rent a car as it was to pay for any type of transportation and then we had the freedom to go wherever we wanted the night before and make a last minute run to the store the morning of the cruise. The Radisson offers free parking to it's guests who are leaving their cars there while they go on a cruise. There is a separate parking lot that they have you move your car to when you check out of the hotel. I'm not sure how beneficial this is for a 3 day cruise, but when we did a 7 day cruise, it was very beneficial! If you have any other questions, just ask...we all love to share our knowledge of Disney!! :)

I'll add your name to the fish extender list. :goodvibes

we have a 3 year old is one diiner seating better than the other? In relation to shows?

Hi there! I'm sorry it took so long to reply to your post, I was on vacation. We went to The Pirate & Princess Party at WDW on 4/6, and then hung out in Orlando for a couple days before heading to Charlotte, NC to visit some friends. The P&P Party was awful, it rained the entire time we were there! We forgot to ride Buzz Lightyear and we only rode POTC once, we swore we were going to ride it a second time. We were just so tired from being up from 3:30 am. UGH But, it was still fun...we met Captain Jack Sparrow...that was cool! I had him sign my T-shirt that I got at the Disney Store.

Ok, so enough of my vacation...I need to answer your question. Some parents prefer the earlier dining time better because the late dinner seems to mess up the kids' dinner schedule and more importantly sleeping schedule.
My kids seem to adjust to the time difference, so it's not a big deal for us. The way I look at it is...it's vacation! Let the kids stay up late! Unless, of course, they have meltdowns if their schedule gets messed up...then by all means, be concerned with their schedule! ;)

But, about the shows, they offer an early show for the late dining time and a late show for the early dining time, so everyone gets to enjoy dinner and a show.

Hope that answers your question! :goodvibes

Our Cruise Meets thread sure has been quiet these days! How is everyone doing? :confused3

Has anyone been doing any "planning" lately? Since we'll be staying at the Poly with the DDP for 4 nights before the cruise, I have been starting to narrow down our possible ADR selections. It's fun!:yay:

I also bought a Fish Extender from ebay - sooo cute!!!:cutie:

As for dining on the ship, we were assigned Late Seating. I fully acknowledge that there are pros and cons to each - and on other cruises with just DH and I, we typically preferred the late. I just don't know how well it will work with the kids? We know they are totally capable of staying up late - we always do while at WDW. But in that scenario, we are running around from ride to ride, with lots of enthusiasm and excitement! I'm a little concerned that the late-night sitting and waiting in the dining rooms will put them right to sleep, so I added us to the waiting list for Main. :thumbsup2

We sure have a long time to go before our trip - and since we're surprising the kids, I don't have them to share in my "excitement". :sad1:
I'll be relying on the DIS to keep me sane!

Hi LJD,

We are going on the same land and sea package and we are staying at the Poly too! We asked for a castle view room. We are very excited. Our kids know about it though. We did surprise them on our last trip and it was great.

How old are your kids? Ours are 9 (girl), 12(girl) and 15 (boy).

Hi there! I haven't been doing any major planning, but we've been discussing where we're going to have character dining while we're at WDW the week before. AND I bought these really cute towel clips from Bed Bath and Beyond so that people will know I AM using a chair by the Mickey pool!! (In case anyone reading this doesn't know the whole ordeal with the chairs by the pools...some people throw a towel on a chair and leave it there all day to save themselves a chair, I will only leave my towel there with my cute clips when I am actually there at the pool) One set of these cute towel clips is a pair of Pink Flamingos and the other set is a pair of yellow birds.

It's so neat that several of us will be at WDW a few days before the cruise. I don't remember which thread I saw it on, but thought I would mention that NASA has a shuttle launch scheduled for 12/4/08. We're planning on getting up REALLY early that morning to head over to Port Canaveral so we don't hit any traffic. It's still early, so there's a chance that it may be rescheduled. Just thought you would all like to know so that you can plan accordingly!! :cutie:

Hi, It is so great that many of us will be at WDW before the cruise. Maybe we will get a chance to meet before we even get on the ship.

We heard about the shuttle launch too but we are taking the Disney Express to the cruise so we won't have a chance to see it (I doubt).

Great idea about the pool chairs!

That would be neat if we could all meet up at WDW before the cruise and then again while we're on the cruise!!

Yeah, when I saw the towel clips for the chairs, my very first thought was "those would be PERFECT for the cruise!!" They are so neat, too!

I was wondering what type of rooms we may get assigned as part of the Land & Sea package? For our last 2 stays at the Poly, we have requested and received the Samoa longhouse - which we LOVE! :lovestruc Other than our connecting rooms (because my parents and sister are joining us), I wasn't sure if I should make any other specific requests this time? I would LIKE to think that we'll be receiving some "preferential" room assignments - Hawaii perhaps?

Our 3 boys will be 10, 7 & 7 at the time of our trip. They are all looking forward to the Oceaneers Club/Lab. How about yours?
