11 year old hang out spot

Hi there,

We've cruised many times but our next cruise in October will be different... our son will be 11 years old. Is he no longer allowed in the oceanears club? He's very young for his age and I don't know how well he'd do in Vibe.... has anyone else had this experience?

Well at 11 he can't go to Vibe.
But he can go to Edge (11-14) and/or Oceaneers

They can go between both spaces aged 11 and 12 as much as they like and see which one works best for them.

If he attends ice breakers in Edge on the first night he might find friends to hang out with him around the ship. In Edge there are video games and activities similar to the Oceaneers (ie. anyone can cook) but the activities also take place around the ship (ie. Scavenger Hunts). As bbel said he can still attend the Oceaneers Club and Lab, but if he chooses to attend Edge it is suggested (might even be required) that he has checkout privileges

The kids clubs go to age 12. My daughter is 12 and I registered her for those. She can also go to the Edge. You can set up checkout privileges for the kids clubs. the Edge is come and go as they please and does not require registration, as far as I know.

My kids lived in the Edge this last cruise. DS 13 and twin DD 11 we had to go get them and bargain about whether they'd hang in the Edge or go ashore!

As far as the 'early in' to the clubs, in our experience the answer is 'no' outside of the open house times. The CM explained that if they let someone who was one week before they're birthday, then what about one week and a day, or two days ad infinitum. I can see that they have to draw a line

It is at the discretion of the YA's and the amount of kids in the proper age for Edge (11-14) onboard. If it is allowed there is a waiver you will sign

My son is small for his age and we were concerned about him going to Edge over the Lab. Once he got into Edge, he wasn't going back, even for programs in the Lab that he loved before.

Kids come in all sizes. There will be some small for their age kids and some tall for their age kids. I wouldnt hold a kid back just because of his physical size. Physical size and maturity don't go hand in hand.

Once my daughter turned 11, she refused to go to anything but the Edge. Depends on the child but I was disappointed. She otoh was delighted being able to go to the tween club. She will have just turned 14 on our next trip and still plans to mainly do the Edge like a friend did on our last trip. The kids on the Edge were a lot friendlier and apparently, most of the Vibe kids were on the older side, closer to eighteen and were not interested in the activities the staff had planned. Maybe our Western TA might be different and she will split her time between the two clubs.

Yes, you can. If the child is age 11-12 and also going to Edge, revoking the in/out privileges at the Club/Lab will negate ability to participate at Edge since there is no sign-in/out at Edge.
