Hey all 11 days to go and my little girl is starting to get sick. She just has a runny nose. But my kids don't know that we are going. Besides washing hands and sheets and Lysol down everything what else does anyone recommend for a speedy recovery? Any medications? Also has anyone ever tried that air born stuff? thanks.

:goodvibes
Besure to have her use hand sanitizer after blowing her nose too. I didn't think airborne helped when I tried it on my family before. You did not say how old your daughter was so I did not know what to recommend. (not sure if she is old enough for antihistamines) If she is Claritin or Zyrtec are great at drying up a runny nose.

as much bed rest as she can take, and lots of vitamin C. Best of luck! Sometimes a runny nose is just a runny nose, hopefully it won't turn into anything worse!

They should have liquids of them for her. Hope she gets well soon and you have a great trip. pixiedust:

I don't have any suggestions other than lots of sleep for the LO! I think stuff like airborne is too late to use now, you should use that at the first sign of a cold. I know what you are going through though. DS got *really* sick with croup about 3 weeks before we left for his first trip and his nose was soooo bad the day we left, but the doc said he was okay to travel. The great news was, the humidity in Orlando was GREAT for him.

Best of luck:goodvibes!

Thanks all for the support. When we went in Dec of 07 my dd then 5 was sick as a dog the day we left. I had never seen her so sick. She barley had a voice. but after a day she improved so much. The weather there really does help. Thanks again!

Make sure to get her looked at in a day or 2. If no fever its probably simple cold. If its a fevery/flu then life if going to suck, since only flu alive atm is swine/flu A.

Vit C/ zinc / juice and sleep. If she can handle nyQuil I would do that. If her chest is tight at night Vicks vapor rub, with a t-shirt over it.

Airborne works but omg its nasty

Actually, we have had both kinds of flu viruses going around our area already. Both DS and DH had the H1N1 though. (It actually was not as bad as regular flu. Just came on REALLY fast.)
figment- Hope she feels better! :goodvibes

DH is a Nurse ........ DD 7 missed 2 days of school this week then gave it to me. I felt so bad last night that I signed into chat and signed right out. DH advice......drink drink drink water.... water.... water ....water.....

Really unless she has an infection nothing is going to get her better sooner. And then only antibiotic will help. Medicine will make her feel better but won't take away the problem. As we always hear it just needs to run it's course. But the good news is it's happening now and not the first day of your vacation. We have 2 weeks until our vacation and DD is starting to feel better. Me and DM both feel like death. Dr said no antibotic for us unless we are still sick next week. DD (the carrier) lol got and antibotic because she had whooping cough last may and Dr is afraid of a reoccurance.

Long story short. Try to get her to drink as much water as possible. And rest her little body. Kids bounce back pretty fast. No kissing Wash hands and you should be taking airborne and protecting yourself to keep you healthy. Also don't forget to wash pillow cases and blankets and spray remotes and phones with Lysol.

Oh and have a great trip!!!!!!!

Thanks so much. We are doing all of that. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks again!

I find that excellent nutrition with the addition of something like PediaSure really helps too. Most kids get good nutrition, but that little extra boost from something like PediaSure never hurts.

The purpose of Airborne is to boost one’s immune system and prevent them from getting sick, such as from getting a cold. It is directed to take Airborne 1-2 days prior to exposure to crowded places (www.airbornehealth.com). After researching the main ingredients in Airborne (vitamin C and Echinacea) in the prevention of colds, however, it does not seem to be an effective prevention for the incidence of colds. Research does show that taking Airborne may help to reduce the duration and severity of colds. However, it is inconclusive whether the recommended doses of Airborne tablets contains a high enough percentage of vitamin C to make a significant reduction of symptoms. Finally, there is little to no evidence on the other, smaller ingredients in Airborne. Until the effects of these other vitamins and herbs, and how their interaction with each other affects the incidence of colds are further researched, one cannot deduce with complete certainty that Airborne does not do as it claims in preventing the incidence of colds.

Hand washing works!
