Last night I was walking down a flight of stairs and fell. 11 day to go and I broke my foot. I am really bummed out. But I am not going to let is spoil my cruise. I will go and have fun. Told DM I guess this just means we need to book again and do everything that I was not able to do this time. I was looking so forward to swimming at Castaway Cay. There still a chance that Doc's will put the foot in a removeable cast. But doing a cruise on cructhes. No fun. Guess it means I well have to sit a relax for 3 day. Now a bad can that be..

sorry to hear about you foot. I hope that you will be able to find other things on the cruise that you will be able to enjoy.

If you had trip insurance, it is possible that this would be covered, and you could rebook, but that is always such a pain, especially if you have been planning your trip for any length of time.

Hey minniegidget,
I broke my foot about 2 months a go and my doc put me in a ski boot looking contraption. It had steel braces up the sides and about 5 velcro fasteners. I had to sleep in it for the first two weeks but then I could take it off at night. I also removed it to shower and swim. My break was called a Jones Fracture and was one of the bones in the bottom of my foot. I did not even need crutches with this thing. I hope your doc can do somthing similar for you.

Have a great trip, no pun intended.

Russ

You have a good attitude. There's a lot to do on the cruise besides swimming. It would have been nice, but it could have been worse.

You'll still have fun!

You are right, that is a great excuse for booking another cruise, maybe even a 7 day. I am sure you will still find a way to have a great experience on your trip
You could uae this to your advantage, someone else will have to keep your beverage glass full for you.....lol...... and maybe Mickey will even sign your cast !!!!

Bummer! I broke my foot before our first Disney cruise in '98. I had a cast for 8 weeks, the last 4 of which I was allowed to walk w/o crutches. I got very used to it and it really didn't bother me unitl the cast was removed the week of our cruise. Boy was I sorry! :earseek: It hurt more after the cast came off than any other time during the 8 wks. Sounds strange but I wish now I had waited until after the cruise to have it removed. Sounds like you're not going to let it effect your trip which is great. Have a wonderful time.

I too just found out two weeks ago that what I thought was a heel spur was a fractured heel! I have been off for 2wks from work right now and in the Bledsoe Boot(ski thing).I go tomorrow to see what Dr says-I think I have at least 2 more wks in this thing,we are going on the 9/28 cruise,DH keeps counting down the days saying "you have 52 more to get better:"!(nothing like a little pressure huh?!LOL!!) Just go and have a good trip anyway-and go back to your Dr. and BEG for a removable cast-at least then you could shower and float around at CC!! Good Luck and may we BOTH improve!! Sending pixie dust your way!!
:p :) :bounce: :jester: :Pinkbounc

Well, I doubt that you'll see it this way, but it's a good thing for me, 'cause now I'll be able to figure out who you are! I'm going to be on the same cruise.

Seriously, though, take this as a sign that you must RELAX during this cruise. Hopefully the folks going with you can be convinced to wait on you hand and foot. ;)

See you there. (I'll be the one with the hopefully not green husband)

Fuhgetabot de crutches! Get a wheelchair and let all those cute CM's push you around the decks! :smooth:

If they cast your foot, get the Gortex liner. Mostly fiberglass(?) casts are used now, and that is waterproof, but if they line them with the old cotton stuff, you still can't get it wet. If you request the Gortex liner(insurance probably won't pay.....about $30 extra) then the whole thing can go in the water. If you felt like it, you'd still be able to swim and enjoy the trip. Just an idea to ask your doctor about....all breaks are, of course, different.

Thanks for all the tips. I go to my doc tomorrow. I will beg him to give me a removable cast. One day at work and Iam ready to thow those out chructhes out the door. My left leg hurt move tonight than the foot that is not broken. But I really like Fawn's tip.

Sorry to hear about your foot. Took the 7 day cruise this past Feb, DD was on the last two weeks of crutches with a broken ankel. The up side was that she (we) received some extra attention. We got to board the plane during pre-boarding, DCL got us on the bus first and up front, and they let us board the ship first as well. We have joked about injuring another family member before our next cruise this coming February.

Hope all works out and you have a great time.

Went to my doc on Tuesday and he looked again at the x ray's and he said he did not think the foot was broken after all. Just twisted. So on the up side I get to do the Dolphin Encounter and all the other good stuff. But then there goes the idea of having all the good looking CM's push me around in the wheelchair. LOL.

Glad to hear that your injury is not as serious as first thought. I bet it will be feeling better by the time you go on the cruise. take care.
