You may be right that this shouldn't be discussed on a Disney discussion board (need to bring back the debate board ;)).

But, the rest of your statement is just :confused3. If that was the case, you would have never gotten the right to vote.

Ed

100% agree. I am certainly not going to just be a lemming to every little thing the government slaps the silly title of "for your safety" on it. How about they place a tap on your phone line and internet useage and safe, well it is for your safety. I don't need the government playing big brother. That is what has gotten us to this ridiculous security circus in the first place that makes no sense at all.

As a frequent traveler I do know how to do the security dance quicker than most, but it doesn't speed up Ma & Pa Kettle who joined the wrong line, forgot to remove the $20 in loose change, the belt buckle and the steel toe cowboy boots. MCO does not have an elite/first security line which is unfortunate for those of use who know what we are doing.

I have run into several power hungry TSA agents. They get all snippy when you ask anything. They yell instructions like they are wardens and we are the prisoners. They make up random rules.

Please.....it isn't a right to fly. No one is asking you to give up any constitutional rights here. I am NOT a lemming. But, there are ways to changed things, and ranting and raving, on a Disney discussion board, is not the way to go about it. All it does is alienate people, makes them feel attacked because they may not think the way you do...and that's not right.

Complaining about those who are slow (Ma and Pa Kettle) is somewhat elitest, don't you think? It amazes me that some who fly frequently choose to denigrate those who aren't as familier with the system, so 'slow down' those who 'get it'. Is that extra 10 mins, overall, going to kill you?

Do the TSA guidelines keep us safer?? Don't know, don't care. I certainly don't feel that any rights are being violated due to those guidelines. I know the rules, I follow them. But I guess that makes me a 'lemming'. But until those rules/guidelines are changed, you can bet your bippy that I'll be following them.
I will say that I move through security pretty rapidly...and I am NOT a 'professional' traveler. My now 16 y/o dd moves through security faster than the vast majority of passengers. She knows the drill and has since she was 5. But, I'm sure there are those business fliers, that fly all the time, that are going to see us in the line and be afraid they are behind Ma and dd Kettle....just based on what we are carrying and/or look like.

Try a little compassion people. Slow down. If you think Ma and Pa are going to slow you down, then leave extra time.

But, I will say the fact that I am going to be away from my carryon bags doesn't make me so happy. I'm waiting to see how they handle that. I don't want to be hauled off to some screening area that is removed from my stuff. Every group of workers has their 'less than honest' workers. And power hungry TSA workers??? Well...there are power hungry people in every walk of life....every single one. It just isn't that big a deal...we all know the guidelines...why is it so hard to just go along with them??? I just don't see this as a huge deal..but then again, I'm not a business traveler. I'm just the little house wife who travels for leisure a few times a year...sure do hope I'm not slowing anyone down at security.

Can we please not make this a 'them' against 'us' discussion?!

I will admit the carry on thing bugs me some. I have (as I'm sure a lot of people do) 'expensive' stuff with me in my carry on.

Driving on public streets isn't a right either. How would you like it if every time you needed to access a public street to get to your job then you would be processed in a 30 minute restricted to what could be in your possession/car, your body and car would also be searched. Your employer would not pay you for this time.

Is that extra 10 mins, overall, going to kill you?
No it isn't going to kill me, but it does cost me money.

They do slow me down and I do have to allow extra time and that time costs me money.

You travel a few times a year. I travel a few times a WEEK. It isn't a big deal when your privacy is invaded because it doesn't happen all the time to you. You aren't yelled at every week by these workers. Complaining or saying ANYTHING to them gets you thrown into the body cavity search line.

And your point is what???? I'm sorry but no one is more special or entitled than anyone else. I don't particularly care how many times you fly. Big deal...George Clooney is playing a part in a movie. Sure, older people can hold you up...sure there are some people that travel better than others.....try shadowing my Japanese sister-in-law. She's an incredible traveler.
Spending more time in security costs you money?? I'm sorry but I can't see how that is. If you're flying then you aren't going anywhere until the plane is. If it takes you 38 seconds in the security line, or 38 mins...how, exactly, does that cost you money?
I'm pretty much done with this type argument. It's right up there with reclining seats. There are those who believe one way, and others that feel another way. And there is way too much entitlement going on with both sides. No one listens to anyone else. Nothing is accomplished except to get everyone in an uproar.

Fees are only collected for hours worked. My clients don't pay for my time doing the security dance. I now have to leave earlier and earlier to deal with the farse of TSA security rather than giving my clients my time on a travel day. Pre 911 I could be at the airport a lot later than before and now I am standing around doing the shoes off, laptop out, liquids in a baggie routine all the while showing strangers my stocking clad feet and bare shoulders. I also now have to arrive early so I can pick up a bottle of water to take on the flight. Until it has a direct effect on your daily life you don't realize how invasive and ridiculous it all is. Same thing with carry on bags. I have learned to cram my life into a 22" rolling carry on bag. Sure I *could* check it but that means I arrive 30-45 minutes later at my client site. On return trips home I then miss out on that time waiting. I travel on average 45 weeks a year if I were to check a bag coming and going each week I would have wasted 70 HOURS waiting for bags!

20 minutes checking in bag on departure
30 minutes waiting for bags at arrival
20 minutes rechecking to go home
30 minutes waiting for bags at home airport
= 100 minutes per week
* 45 weeks
= 4500 minutes or 75 HOURS!

Not trying to be argumentative here, truly I'm not. But....cost of doing business. Life changes..plain and simple. I suppose my dh is impacted on changes in daily life as well. He flies for business..he isn't getting paid for his time at the airport or in the air either. But he isn't quibbling over an addtl 15 mins standing in line.

But...could security be different? Sure it could. I would love to not have to worry about those 3-1-1 baggies anymore. I would love to be able to pack my full size toiletries in my carryon bag, enabling me to not have to check a bag. I can travel very efficiently. Do I like the idea of pat-downs and strangers being able to see my 'parts'? Not particularly. But, at this moment in time, it's the way it is. I just can't get my panties in a twist over any of that. It will change some time down the road. Until that happens I will 'go along to get along'.

That is my biggest complaint. I really don't care who sees what. Like I said what I've got has seen before and much better! so I don't really care BUT if they are going to make me go away from my bags then they need to assume full responsibility for keeping them safe, only reasonable IMO

They do the same in normal line when passengers are subject to extra screening:headache:. Pre 'redress' my DH & DS (both with same name on watch list - evidently, no more problems:banana:) would get yanked every flight & i'd get stuck with all the gear on the belt.

I agree re not caring who sees what. If it stops 1 person from doing harm, i'm all for it. Can't say I'm happy with how i look, but I'm secure in my own skin at this point in my life.:)

Don't mean to be snarky but you would deal with it. That's exactly what happened to me. My research plant started handling nuclear sensitive material and goverment contracts hence daily pat downs and security car searches and this is 5 days a week. I don't get paid by the hour so I can't speak to that (I'm salaried, I get my annual salary whether I'm in my lab, a classroom or in a security check point) but now the security thing is some thing we deal with.
No one guarentees you to a life inconvenience free. does it suck? Big time!
Is it enough for me to quit, Nope.

I don't see it as an invasion of my privacy so I can't really comment on the outrage.

"It" doesn't have to be and "it" shouldn't be. And, every time "it" changes,
"it" changes for the worse. "It" is more than inconvenience . . .

The glamorous life of a 'paid consultant'! Sounds like your employer is pushing you to spend as much time at their client sites as possible where they can bill for your presence while you... post on Disboards :rolleyes1

Sounds like you don't really fly first class, though, if you estimate 20 minutes to check a bag or have to wait behind casual travelers as you navigate security. ;)

Wow, that is impressive that you know my schedule of when and where I am working. I would never charge for my down time. I am allowed to have a personal life. :confused3 For the record it is 7:30am here on the west coast, not even 8am yet at the client site, so I can post during my personal time while at the hotel.:rotfl:

I can't believe the client didn't open early for you. Your time being so valuable and all. Don't they know who you think you are? :lmao:
