11/ 30 / 2008 / Where's my peeps?

I was just reading through some other threads to get ideas for my fish extender. I notice most of the groups found a common meeting point to take a picture at sometime during the cruise. I thought this would be great, sorry I am a scrapbooker and I love pictures that hold memories. I was thinking we could meet toward the end of the trip, meet each other, and get a cool group photo. If those participating are interesting I would be willing to set a place and time.:cool1:

They also talk about giving to just adults or just kids, any thoughts on that? I think it would be fun to give to both, or just give something that would work for anyone... There is just a ton of information out there. One group played tag, which sounds like it would work better on a longer cruise. They have also talked about themed days and so much more. Anyone have any thoughts about this? I am just so excited about doing this I thought I would try and get organized now!!

If you need an idea for a quick and easy FE, use a stocking!! I just found one that is really cute and it's perfect for that time of year. I little puffy paint, some stickers and you are done!

I think a group photo would be an awesome idea! I scrapbook too and was planning on doing a DIS board page for our Disney Scrapbook. Maybe we could decide to meet on Deck after the cast off party...we could also wear nametags with our DIS Member names on them to easily locate others in the group...what does everyone think about that?:grouphug:

there has been some talk on and off in the thread about a meeting but no one has been able to take the ball and run. :confused3 i've been known to do some scrapbooking too so i feel ya:hug: We want pix!!

i know that my kids would love to get to know some other kids before the cruise and meet up once we board the ship. They tend to be a little shy in large groups as first and knowing other kids beforehand will take the nerves out of it a little i think.

just a suggestion: before the castoff folks are finding their luggage, getting oriented, etc and everyone has to do the life jacket thing. so maybe a bit after cast off would be better time to meet. what time is first seating dinner? would it be possible in between castoff and first dinner? i think there is a departure party on deck 9 during that time so maybe finding a spot right around pluto's or pinocchio's would work?

i'm actually trying to get out of the house now to get to the fabric store to start our FE.:yay:

Hal001--I think meeting after the departure party on deck 9 is a great idea if everyone is willing to do so...I may make our family name tags with our DIS board name on it so you guys can find us...what do you think about that?

Also, I want to see pictures of your homemade "FE"! Please post photos when you're done! Are you makin' one for the IL's too? Should I add their cabin to the "FE" list of participants? Please let me know! Happy sewing!:yay:

Hal001- I think the kids would really love to play together, we will have to get everyone together so they can meet sooner then later.

My boys are shy too, once they get to know people they are better, but it takes them awhile.

I will look into the times for the first day and see if I can find a time that might work for everyone. We are planning on getting to the port early and getting on the boat as soon as we can, that way we have lots of time to explore and get the DS use to the boat before it leaves! We are staying at the port the night before so they can see the Magic leave! ;-)

If anyone else is going to be at the port the night before maybe we could meet on the beach or something and let the kids (young or old) get to know each other there.. just a thought if others are trying to find something to do in the evening. We are planning on watching the Magic take off, maybe that would be a good time for us all to meet.

the night before the cruise we will be at the wilderness lodge. we plan to get to the port around 10-1030 or so to check in.

Paul and I are up for anything - :thumbsup2
We're even trying figure out how to get ourselfs a fish extender -
but we don't sew (except for wild oats ;) )- and the eBay one is $35 bucks -
that seems like a lot for a glorified pocket organizer.
Hopefully we'll be able to pull something together.

You could use a cool stocking or a canvas bag. You can get those at craft stores.. yes even the stockings are out here, and just add a few cool stickers or appliques to it and it will do the same thing as the $35 glorified pocket organizer will!! :-) :thumbsup2

We are coming down early and staying at the Hilton on Cocoa Beach Friday night and Saturday night before the cruise...I think getting the kids together beforehand is a good idea. My DS is seven and is shy too. I also have a nine-month old who will turn one (1) just before the cruise. Watching the Magic leave from the port sounds like a good idea. I'm game..what time is it leaving?:yay:

Hey - I like the fabric bag Idea! :yay:
Thanks!
Now you got me thinking. :scratchin

we will be driving over from near tampa the morning of the cruise (ILs house) so will not be able to join for the Magic send-off:sad1: but DS is right here beside me and says he wants to meet everyone first thing once on the ship:dance3:

Jennyb: disboard names are a great idea! good way to be able to ID each other. DS a little concerned that I will make him wear a name tag that says "DS-7" :rotfl2:

FYI to all intersted: Bonine is a US brand name for the drug meclizine (i think its spelled meclozine in the UK). its pretty standard for nausea so should be available in pharmacies in UK but probably by another brand name (SeaLegs, Dizmiss or Antivert maybe) If you ask the pharmacist for meclozine s/he should know just what you're talkin' about. Makes lots of people real sleep y tho :faint: If you think u might need another option just ask me when we see each other on the ship.

p.s. we booked late so we are in cabin 2642 i think and the ILs are sequestered to cabin 2650.

Thanks Hal that's good to know :)

That is very funny, I should make my DS one that says DS-4 going on 21!! I think the name tags are a good idea too.. I will have to see if I can make some that are fun so my kids will keep them on!! :-)

I think the Magic sails sometime between 5 and 7, I am going to email my travel agent and find out, she will know! We are staying at the Radisson at the Port the night before, it says you can see the boats from the hotel so we will see. I am sure as large as they are you can see them from a distance. Once I get a time we can try to figure out a place to meet the night before.

i have also emailed my travel agent about the times between the send off and 1st dinner so we will know if we have enough time for a quick meeting with everyone one the boat and the all important picture!! :-) :yay:

Did everybody see this thread? Some more thoughts on a place to meet.

Name tags sound like a great idea. They could be made our of Home Depot Mickey's.

Also, I like the idea of everybody getting together and Deck 9 sounds good. However, I suggest we have a "rain" location too. When we boarded last year it was pouring w/ lightening -- ouch! I suggest the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 as a backup location.

I think we should meet on deck 9 or the lounge at 3 pm the day we sail. Sounds like that is a good time, we will get a chance to meet everyone and get a few pictures!! We will know each other before anything gets going!! :-)

I am so excited I started working on my FE tonight!! It's much easier then I thought it would be, I hope to have it done by the weekend adn then I will post a picture!!

That's a great suggestion (having a backup location in case of rain). 3:00 on Deck 9 sounds good to me if everyone else is in agreement...:goodvibes

Okay seasoned cruisers this question is for you... or anyone else who can remember. I know I have read about this many times but cannot remember. What time do we sail from the dock? The Magic is taking off the same time on Saturday and I would like to try and get a meeting place and time for that as well.. any suggestions from those who have been to the port before is there a good place to meet?

if i remember correctly its just about 5 pm when we actually pull out. the lifeboat drill is at 330, then the pre-party starts at 4, then we leave.

if we wanted to meet at the port before sailing, a good place may be around the model of the ship in the middle of the terminal before they load the ship.

OK so I go camping for a week at Lake Michigan (by the way it i middle of august and the water is only 60 let hope CC is warmer when we go) and I come back only to find all kinds of activity. We are in for the meet on the boat thing. I bought fabric at walmart while camping and am getting excited to start my FE. and we are staying at the Raddison the night before we cruise I to wanted to see the Magic of. We stayed there last time and I don't remember being able to see the boat from my room but we were on the ground floor. I am sure when we check in someone at the front desk will be able to help us with that.

Wow I hope I answered all questions that were addressed while I was gone.

By the way I have a DD 9 1/2 (only child) very scared to do the clubs by herself. ANyone have a DD or DS about that age that would like a pen pail until sailing time and then a freind on the cruise? Let me know.

jlw, my DD just turned 13 last month and im sure she would love a penpal before the cruise. Just contact me if you like.
