11/27/04 the sequel.....

Darci - thats a great project, i havnt posted on the thread cos everyone seems to have come up with great ideas!!!

Curt - hope you keep us informed. I am excited about the wedding but right now i'm worried about my brothers youngest daughter, we're waiting to find out if she needs a liver transplant, she goes for the tests on monday but i think we wil have to wait a few weeks for results. Just trying to think positive at the moment.

We had an interesting Friday and Saturday. Friday was our semi-quarterly teacher conference for Claire, our 10 year old. Like two of her siblings, she came out of foster care and had serious emotional problems, and resultant behavioral issues, from that experience. But her teacher said that since December--when we got back from DCL--she has been more compliant, attentative and had less behavioral issues. Her therapist, Saturday, speculated that she knew the cost (and sacrifice) of the cruise and in her own universe-centered way thought that it was just for her. The cruise, because of the way it was arranged, also gave her more one-on-one attention from both the counselors and from us. Aside from that the counselor couldn't really come up with a good explanation. No matter what occurred, the cruise seemed to make a huge difference in her when we could not. Unfortunately, our HMO won't pay for another one as therapy.

Thats amazing Curt, If i were still doing my college work i would have wrote a piece on that!!! Shame they wouldnt fund another trip though!!

My brother has called from the hospital & his DD has had the procedures done & seem to have gone well, the endoscopy has shown nothing to worry about & the biopsy results will take about 4 weeks, doctor told parents that it was a routine check up & that it wasnt because they had found anything from previous tests, so fingers crossed all is looking well but i wont relax until shes had the full all clear!

Darci, we just went to see Pinnochio at a children's theatre this weekend. The lessons were to stay in school, not to lie (of course), and your parent's always love you no matter what you are made of or where you stray.

Curt, that is so neat about Claire!! Are you at all still considering the other job or is that a done deal?

Tracey, that is great about your niece, I pray she continues to do well!!

I go back to the doc tomorrow for more test results. We mailed our application to the adoption agency and started to file government forms last weekend to get that ball rolling in the event that we do decide to adopt. We are loving the weather and life is good here!

Hope you are all doing well!!!!

Kim

Curt, I certainly thought both Claire and Chloe were joys to be around and very well behaved girls. If you hadn't of told me before hand, I would have never guesses that either one of them would give you a lick of trouble. Taylor still asks about her cruise pen pals.
Traci, I hope the news is good for your neice.

Kim & dzneprincess - nice to hear from you both, Kim hope the tests go well & i gather your having good weather, its not so good here still not very warm & lots of rain! Then again I am in England!! so whats new :)

Nice to hear from all of you.
Amanda--both were on great behavior during the cruise. In spite of Chloe having the toughest time in foster care, she's adjusted the best. Claire has had a tough time but has done well since the cruise. We'll hope that this continues. We're at a loss to explain it, but content with the result.
Kim--it's a done deal. I turned down a face-to-face interview in Iowa. I considered that three of my children have grown accustomed to being in the same house, same community and same school for five years and that's significant since they were never in the same spot for more than a few months before. I hope everything goes well for you. We won't be coming to Chicago via Iowa, but we're still talking about taking the kids to the museums sometime this summer. We'll let you know when.
Tracey--we're having great weather in Indianapolis, 80 degrees yesterday. But rain is on the way.

Our two youngest wanted to watch the DCL promo DVD Saturday. Steph didn't really want to re-book when we got back because I think we were both pretty fatigued from it and decided to wait. After watching the DVD she wants to re-book. I imagine we'll wait until they publish '07 rates though--it looks like '06 rates are pretty high already.

Curt

Curt - what a heart warming story. You definitely have to take more cruises if the results are so good.

Kim - keep us posted. I'm glad you started your paperwork. It will be great if you don't need it, but if you do then you'll be farther along in the process.

Tracey - we haven't heard any wedding details. Or - are you just going to wing it?

Gailyn - Where are you? Haven't seen you on the 12/3/05 thread. Of course, I hadn't been on that one or this one in weeks. Work has been hectic. I'm ready for a vacation. MY ...it's been 5 months. YUP - I'm way over due.

Hi Amanda!! Hi Darci !!

Diane

Diane, it's good to hear from you again. While I think the entire atmosphere of Disney may have been a factor, I also think that the one-on-one attention and family time contributed a lot. Hopefully, more time off and less work time will help (as I type this at 4:00 in the morning from work).

Curt

Hi Diane, its nice to hear from you, hope your well.
Not really got any wedding plans made yet as it seems so far off, wont go dress hunting till proberbly after christmas, it wont be a big affair as i have been married before, i just want my parents, brother & his family & Darci & her family there & thats what will make it special. :goodvibes

Had to laugh yesterday my brother told me that dad said if i had waited he would have paid for us to get married on the ship!! - but guess what - he didnt have a clue about how much it actually is, so i printed off the details & prices for him with a note saying i was going to book it for him! between $3,500 & $5,800 - thats more than we would pay for the cruise!!!! Needless to say the shock nearly floored him, not very often my dad is speechless. :rotfl2:
Small & intimate is how i want it - & cheap - would much rather spend the money on another holiday!!
(i think i will splash out on the dresses for DD & me though :teeth: )

Tracey--I've got to figure out a way to use that same system to get some of my family members to be speechless! I agree with a small wedding. Steph and I got married in a small ceremony--just two close friends as witnesses, then splurged on a cruise later (I don't think Disney existed back then--we used Norwegian and I think it was back when they still used sails and there were pirates roaming the seas). Since we paid for our wedding (2nd one for both of us), we decided we'd spend the money on ourselves instead of our guests. I guess you get selfish as you get older (or maybe you just get wiser). :rolleyes1

Curt

Good to hear from you again, Kim. How are things going? Did you get the same wacky weekend weather that we got? Friday night we had tornado warnings (terrible thunder storms with wind and hail that coated the ground in ice) then Saturday evening and all day Sunday we had snow showers! What happened to April?

Curt

Hi guys just checking in before i shoot off to the city for a conference at the Nottingham Hilton Hotel - with my manager, chairman of the governing body, DD's head teacher & his management staff & little old me!!!! Things are deffinately looking good on the job front, looks like there might be a job for me at DD's school, fingers crossed guys. :cool1:
Curt glad you agree with my wedding plans, i always imagined that you Americans liked everything big!!! :)

Tracey--what we like and what we can have are two different things! ;)

I realized today that, after five months, we never received our Castaway Club package. Okay, so it took a while, but I just figured that DCL was really, really slow. I called today and they gave me the numbers, said that they would send the packages to us, apologized, then asked if I wanted to book another cruise while I was on the phone.

I'm always fascinated when someone can turn a mistake into a marketing opportunity.

Curt

Curt - you didnt book then??? ;)

Conference went well, got a lovely 3 course evening meal & lunch today, & the information & presentation was very good.
Got a busy weekend ahead DD is in a show Friday & Saturday night, looking forward to seeing it :flower:
Gonna go & put my feet up now, hope everyone out there is well. :wave2:
