11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

Ken - I loved the card idea and she'll be thrilled! When is her BD? Make sure you take lots of photos and video!! This will be priceless.

My sister just called me and told me she cannot do the Feb cruise. She and her husband had stock in a bank up here (National City) which was just bought by PNC bank. They took a huge hit and she can't afford it. But she said she will save and would like to consider the fall, maybe just do WDW.

I'm off to clean and do laundry.

CALM DOWN!!!
Your clothes will fit, you can always do laundry on board (besides, what's a little dirt among friends?), the kids will survive at school, your lesson plans can involve a lot of review (that never killed anyone), and Brianna is your priority now - and she will be fine!!! And you don't have to do it all yourself - get DH and DS involved. Do a tiny bit each day and chip away at it. You'll be surprised at how much you'll get done that way. (That was a lecture by the way)

You know how we all LOVE lectures!! Kiahs birthday is November 5th. I'll be sure to get as much video as I can.

My daughter and I have been crazy today printing out pictures from the other thread. I really don't like putting our names on the door so that's why I didn't ask for you to do hers or my son's. But when she saw them she wanted one for home.

SHe took a photography class in school and was introduced to photoshop. YOu've totally inspired her!!!

NOw my office floor has a gazillion pictures on it!! There are some great pictures over there on that thread!!

Take your time with it!! I'm sure you've got other things on your mind!

I finally got my summer clothes packed away, winter clothes out and made my final decision on what's going in my suitcase! This is BIG!! I really feel as if I have accomplished a lot. Now I have to do DS clothes and try to get DH movin'.

So we decided to hit Sea World again today. What a crazy idea that was. It was ridiculously crowded and I could not wait to get out of that place. Now I need a nap before I go to a Harvest Hoedown Halloween thing with DD tonight.

Meanwhile, we survived the Herald Hunt. Dave Barry made it utterly brutal this time...so hard that after the final clue was read, no one had figured the whole thing out more than 1/2 hour later when we left b/c we were not winning this year, and there were thousands of people playing...

An example of how diabolical this game can be is one of the 5 puzzles consisted of the Miami Symphony Orchestra performing where the band would play a piece and there would be solos of different songs by various members of the band. For instance the Sax played Avenue Q, a tuba played 3 Blind Mice, a trumpet played 8 days a week, a clarinet played when I'm 64 and a trombone played 76 trombones...in the Hunt, all answers have to be a number.

Then, a sheep on wires ala the chandelier in Phantom came down from above and went Baa Baa...then a woman came out while another person cried out run Clair run, while Clair said "ah"...Clair was then captured by a person with a butterfly net...

From these clues, the object is to come up with a numerical response that matches a list of numbered clues provided...the list has over 100 possible answers while there are only 5 puzzles.

The trick to this puzzle was clair and the net. Since Clair was saying "ah" and was captured w/a net, the message was listen to the song played on the clarinet which gives an answer of 64...except there was no answer of 64. The first part, sequentially, was the sheep who said baa twice, or Two Baas (Tuba)...since the tuba played 3 blind mice and since the sheep came before Claire, that made the answer 364.

Understand that this was just one of 5 initial puzzles spread out over several blocks. There are 3 hours to figure them out and then the final clue acts as the key to unlock the 5 clues identified by the numerical answers..The Hunt has been around 25 years and there are quite a few people who actually fly into town to participate...check out Heralhunt.com

This year we only had 3 of the 5 right, but in years past we have solved the whole thing a couple times, just not quite fast enough to win the cruises (not Disney) or other vacation prizes, but the game is a lot of fun. We have participated every year but one for the past 10-11 years (and then only b/c we were out of town for a family matter we could not miss).

Wasn't so good a sports weekend over on my coast. The Rays lost in a tough game last night and the Bucs gave it up to a backup QB for the Cowboys.

The Hunt sounds fun. I'm sure anything with Dave Barry in it is fun and convoluted all at the same time.

Hey Suzymouse, yes I was watching the game that's why I wasn't on the DIS. It was an ugly game. Glad we didn't bet. I'll give it to the Giants, they played better. The Steelers offense was horrible.

Pittsburghers talk funny. Instead of saying Steelers they pronounce it Stillers. Yinz means you guys. Gummbands are rubber bands, flip flops are gummers. Iron City Beer is Ahrn. So if you drink a beer it's "pump an Ahrn". An aht is "and that" There's a lot of them! If you search Pittsburghese there are several web sites devoted to it.
