11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

I just checked and got the same error. If you go down the page though and click on caribbean cruises in advance search, it comes up there.

Has anyone else noticed that our cruise isn't listed on DCL's website anymore? I like to look it up periodically (okay--every day ) just to see what categories are still available, and it's not there and hasn't been for several days. When you click on the 7 night to Costa Maya, it comes up with some sort of message that says there's been an error. It's not listed as a 7 night western with two stops at CC either. I just wondered if anyone else has been watching DCL's site like I have been and found that to be weird. Surely our cruise isn't sold out yet. There were quite a few categories left when I checked about a week ago.

Hey guys,

Are any of you planning to get gift baskets from Shirley in PC to have delivered to the ship? I emailed her with some ideas for the family and she emailed me back. I've told Bob what I'm doing, but we are surprising the girls and Melinda. I just wanted to share with you guys what we are getting and the prices in case any of you wanted to do this for your kids.

For Bob and I--in a Mickey and Minnie tote--6 Lipton sweet teas, 3diet mountain dew and 3 diet green teas, scrapbook stuff, and a box of gourmet chocolates--$88.00

For Melinda--Nice Beach tote, diabetic snacks, activity book an dmarkers, 6 diet orange sodas and an autograph book and pen--$45.00

For Mackenzie--Medium sand pail with sand toys and sand molds, cookies and snacks, art supplies, and Mickey sports bottle--$68.00

For McKenna--Medium sand pail with toys and molds, mixrd snacks and candies with juice and water, mickey and minnie plush, bath toys- all snacks for a 3 year old--$65.00

Total 310.58 which includes tax and delivery to the ship. I have seen pictures of the sand pails, an dShirley personilizes them. She has a thread on Disboards.

Also, I found on Ebay "wish pearl necklaces" I ordered 1 for each of us girls. Kenzie, Kenna and I have opened ours. Melinda still needs to do hers. We are going to wear them on the ship. Bob keeps talking about getting me the "jewels of the Sea" mickey pearl necklace--that would be a nice Christmas Gift from the girls.

Stacie--Do you think that DCL will have Party food for us at our meet and greet? I was thinking of ordering the Bon Voyage celebration thing with the cake, and the Choc Strawberries, but if they would do something for us, then I would just skip it. I was just wondering since when DCL emailed you, she mentioned if we would need anything else--which prompted my "wish list".

I got the last thing today that I need to make the gifts for the FE's (I think). Cant wait to really get this project under way. I hope that everyone likes it and doesn't think that it is corny. The FE list is going well. Hope more people will sign up. I have enough stuff to make 100 of what I'm doing. As of right now, my total comes to 34 people.

Lora - I don't have a clue what we're going to do for FE gifts or what I'll do for an FE. Considering decorating a grocery bag with stickers.
Seriously, I'll have to go to ebay and get an idea of what they look like, then to Michaels for craft supplies. I did buy fabric but I don't know if I bought enough. This is getting complicated!
I don't think we'll be ordering any gift baskets. Who is Shirley?

Shirley and her husband own a company in Port Canaveral called the Perfect Gift. She has a floral shop and also makes gist baskets that she delivers to the ships. I have never used her, but I've seen several posts about her. She is also always in the "know" about everything that goes on in FL and the surrounding area. I have talked to her several times and she is very delightful. Also if you have questions about the cast members or local hotels/restaraunts, she will find it out for you. I looked at a thread about FE's. Here is the directions for making one. Basically it looks like an over the door shoe or makeup hanger. You need

1/4 yard of fabric, iron on interfacing, wide bouble bias tape and a 3/8 dowel rod that is 8 inches long. The pockets are 11x5 1/2 inches and the back is 32x8 inches.

Cut out backing and pockets. Then iron on interfacing. Sew bias tape on top of pocket. Pleat once on each side and pin bottom of pocket so that it is 8 inches wide. Baste and then pin bias tape on bottom and sew. Pin pockets on backing and sew the bottom of the pockets to the back. Pin bias tape to whole outer edge of holder and sew. Fold the top over leaving enough room to slide dowel rod thru and sew across. Use cording to hang dow rod over extender. Some people use antenna toppers on the ends of the dowel rods.

Summer colds are the worst! I feel for you! Hopefully it will be short lived. I would take your rain off of your hands if I could. We're wanting rain here in Kansas. It's been over a hundred degrees with heat indexes around 105 to 110. It's just plain miserable!

Susan - I wish I could send you this rain. Over an inch yesterday. Are your crops suffering much? Hopefully it will cool down for you soon.

Lora - Thanks for the directions. It doesn't look too bad. I think I may be able to pull this off! And I did buy enough fabric. I need to get my machine out, oil it and make sure it will work. If not I will be using fabric glue of some sort!
Also, I will explore Shirley's website.

Taking today off. My cold decided to settle in my chest over night and I think if I cough one more time I am going to implode! I'm achy and dizzy and just don't feel like getting on the bus (which is probably where I picked up the bug in the first place) or driving and walking across the bridge (Ohio River) in the rain to my building. They'll be fine without me. I'm going to stay home, drink tea and watch TV. Maybe it will be a Disney day and I'll watch the planning videos and a few classics! I'd watch Dumbo or Bambi but then I'd cry. Maybe Toy Story and Peter Pan. And Nemo, definitely Nemo!

Hope you can get some rest and start feeling better. Send the rain down here. We have been getting scattered thunderstorms. If you're not lucky enough to have one cool down things, the temps are getting to the mid 90's. Let me know how the fish extender thing goes. THey sell them on ebay for about $35 . So we might have to make it a project as well.

I'm so sorry you are so sick! I hope you can atleast enjoy the day some. Anything Disney always makes me feel a little better. I'd love to have your rain. The funny thing is that our crops are suffering because we had way too much rain to start the planting season. So, because our crops got planted so late, not everything we normally plant got planted, and the ones that did get planted are very short. Just not a very good year for farming. We could use the rain now to give everything a boost. That's how it always works though--you get tons of rain when you don't need it and then no rain when you do. It always seems to work out okay in the end, so I'm not going to get too worked up about it.

Enjoy your day off as much as possible. I, too, can't wait to hear that ship's horn--music to my ears!

Big, Big mistake. I watched "Old Yeller" this morning. Don't know what I was thinking! My sister bought it for me a few months ago and I thought I could do it. I also went through my Passporter and researched some shore excursions. I'm thinking we'll stay with what we have already chosen.

This afternoon I will watch Nemo and go to the "happy place". I think I'll also try to design my FE.

Hi all...
Sorry I've been MIA for a while. The summer is passing by rather quickly and I have so much to do before school starts up again.

I hope everyone is feeling at the top of their game. We need to make sure all are feeling well in time for the trip!

Few things...

I held a pre cruise BBQ here last Saturday and it was awesome to see the people that will be traveling with us... {Shout out to my peeps: jsfein, Cheysdad, love2travel, DISVILLIANFAN and my MIL (who doesn't frequent this board)} The girls made their countdown chains...MAN ARE THEY LONG! We still have a long ways to go!!

The discussion of the fish extenders came up. I don't think that we are going to be able to participate in this activity. WHile I LOVE creating things for the cruise, I don't think I"ll have the time to (1.) make the fish extender and (2.) be able to buy all the items for everyone else's.There seems to be soooo many people doing this. I don't think that I would be able to do it properly. I probably would worry each day that I wouldn't be able to get to everyone.

My DD will be having a BIG celebration a week after we return and I have centerpieces, invitations and 1 million other things to make. So I apologize for not being able to be a part of this activity.

You can count us in for the grab bag. That'll work out great for us!

Speaking of grab bag....my DH came up with a great idea (he's actually pretty proud of himself for this one) We usually have so much time to wait in the terminal...why don't we do our DIS Meet then? We will definitely be able to find a way to distinguish ourselves (We have our DIsvillianfan...KEN!! Who is GREAT at getting attention! )

THis way we have time to talk and get to know each other. THis worked out for us spontainously last time and we got to meet (and keep) our dear dear friends!!! This way when we get on the ship we can make our way to part 2...perhaps hang by the pool or at Topsiders.

If we first meet at 3:00 it will usually be when we are in the middle of something and we'll have 15-20 minutes. Seems rushed.

It's just an idea. But if you think about it, once we get on the ship we all will probably have to run to make resspies for Palos, get our food, have a few minutes downtime, boat drill, check our rooms for our bags...yadda yadda yadda.

As I said the port gives us PLENTY of time to sit down, relax, get to know one another and set us off to a great start!

Our family is in for the grab bag but out for the fish extender. Too many things to do with too little time.

I was thinking that since we have a rather large group for the FEs (14 families as of this moment) that each family would only have to do one day. If they want to do more, more power to them but I agree, the point of vacation is to relax, not run around the ship like crazy.

Happy4Disney (Cindy) e-mailed me asking about getting T-shirts printed. She has someone that can do it for around $10 per shirt. Is there interest in this? That would be an easy way to pick out other traveling turkeys in the terminal.

I'm all for meeting at the terminal, but I don't know what time we'll arrive and I know some of us are at WDW before hand, the shuttles usually don't get to the port until 1:00 or so. Do you want everyone to wait to board?

ETA: I forgot to say, the FEs don't have to be anything more than a "stuff" holder, I posted a pic of mine a few pages back, it's a felt bag sewn together. It doesn't have to be anything fancy at all.

Judy--I'm sorry you're sick, hope you get to feeling better soon. Enjoy Nemo, maybe the steam from a bag a microwave popcorn will clear things up.

No, unfortunately they'll kick us off the boat bright and early on the 29th.

Didn't get to Nemo today. I watched the Travel Channel Season of Disney (the poor WDW traveler (me) and the rich WDW traveler(not me) episodes). I also designed my FE. I hope I can assemble it! There is more Disney tonight on the Travel Channel. Samantha Brown at 7pm.

Must be that time of year. The last couple of days I've felt crappy with a head cold/sinus infection. Sniffle, Sniffle.

It doesn't really matter to us where we meet, but SuzyMouse does make some very valid points. Last cruise we were running around quite a bit when we first boarded.

As far as the FE, I think we will only do one day too. It would get to be a little much to put something out everyday, but too each there own.
