You need to use the right call to get the "game". Mojito..Mojito..BBC..BBC!! Hey open bar , oops thats for me. :drinking1 :drinking1 Here Mikey!

I'm bumming right now and trying very hard not to panic - I might be deployed during the timeframe of our cruise.

DH and I have been talking about it this weekend trying to see what choices we have (as canceling is NOT an option). Right now we're down to four options:

  1. Seek an earlier deployment
  2. Seek a remote
  3. Choose not to re-enlist next summer
  4. Seek a special duty assignment in the area

Thought process:
  1. It's not about getting out of a deployment; its about making this specific cruise w/ my family. My family has had to make several sacrifices (as has any military family) for our nation. This is the one thing that we all have been able to focus despite me working long hours and missing many special events in my kids lives.
  2. The chances of an earlier deployment are there, but not as readily available.
  3. A remote will have me gone for at least a year (and still possibly make me miss the cruise).
  4. I really want to remain in the USAF (especially since I am close to retirement).
  5. A special duty will mean a controlled-tour that might possible last until I retire (and is the one we are leaning towards).

Now I need to work on ensuring I obtain a special duty in the area and pray all goes well.

Here's hoping for special duty! pixiedust:
DD will be disappointed if you don't make the cruise. I think she actually managed to send your DDs an email yesterday.

Prayers being sent your way....for what you do..you deserve a prayer or 2 answered. GOOD LUCK!!!

I hope everything works out for you and your family.:grouphug: My prayers will be with you, and we'll hope that some pixie dust will be sent your way!:wizard:

GotDisney?~Hope all works out! My prayers are with you!

Our move is in full swing! DH left Sunday and wont be back until June 7th....I finish work this week....lots going on! I'll try to keep in touch during the craziness!!

Happy 22nd Everyone!!!

GotDisney--Good luck on your decision sending some pixiedust: your way.

Jackie--Hope the move goes as smooth as possible.

Nothing new here, just waiting for school to be over so that we can actually sleep in a little bit. We're thinking of throwing a neighborhood "Welcome Summer" party. Anyone know how we would show a movie on the side of our garage at night (my kids thought it would be great, it would have be Disney of course)? Would a regular projector for a computer work?

Cheysdad, why do you think I married him!:rotfl2:

I thought it was for his good looks!!!:cool2: and sparkling personality!! :cool1: (he really does look like that!!

Teresa and Ken...see I took a different approach...I figured absence makes the heart grow fonder...did that work or was it your alcohol call????

Mike is in the house!!!:woohoo:

Going to a parade and a picnic. Enjoy the weekend everybody!!!

I'm off today for a well deserved "family day" even though everyone else is either at school or work. DH is expecting his office to be sent home early today. Below is our itinerary for the extended weekend:

Friday - have carpet installed in the family room: have locksets installed on the new interior doors downstairs; change out the switch plates, etc from black to white to match new design in family room; have kids finish straightening bedrooms; start laundry; get new mattresses (been waiting for the big sale this weekend); bathe three dogs and cut two; and maybe, possibly see Shrek 3.

Saturday - move furniture back into family, finish laundry (maybe - it is never ending with five kids around), finish up last minute dusting & straightening before picking up MIL from airport around lunchtime; watch POC III (promised kids we would wait for MIL to see it); enjoy the evening and possibly go for a swim

Sunday - Delaplane Strawberry Festival followed by grilling out and enjoying the evening w/ a swim

Monday - enjoy the day at the pool or beach

Tuesday - off to doc at Bethesda for a scope for potential upcoming surgery. DH has to escort me since I won't be able to drive afterwards. Relax the rest of the day.

Wednesday - DH has off. I head back to work.

After dealing with agonizing back pain off and on for three weeks (aka in pain when off meds) DH actually hopes DS and I will help him drywall the basement this weekend. Can't say that's the smartest idea and not exactly the way I'd hoped to spend the weekend, but with no other definite plans I may be drawn into his scheme just so I can keep him from hurting himself. I've heard through the family grapevine that MIL/FIL are planning to invite any family that can make it to their house on Sunday. That's always fun and will help prevent DH from spending the entire weekend in the basement.

Hi all, just finished a crazy week with my oldest in softball camp all day and playing end of the season tournament at night. Her team finished second in the league in a heartbreaker last night, but the girls had such a great attitude and it was so cool to see how far they'd come as a team this season!

Weekend plans...celebrating 22nd wedding anniversary without hubby today:sad2: cleaning house and mowing yard for open house on Sunday, leaving tomorrow to join hubby for a four day conference on one of the coastal islands of Georgia, returning for my last two days of work next Thursday and Friday :woohoo: and then sorting and prepping for our move. We've had several people looking, so hope the right family comes along to make an offer soon.

Have a great weekend and please say a prayer for all the troops serving our country at home and around the world this Memorial Day. Freedom is not free!
Lorie

AF5FAM - congrats to your DD on her team placing so well. DD#2 is nearing the end of her first softball season. Currently they are in the top, but its the tournament at the end she's eyeing a trophy for.

Sorry about having to bear your anniversary w/o DH, but here's to making up for it at that conference.
