11/17/12 It's a Magical TEXAS Thanksgiving with the Mouse!

My family can't wait. This will be our first Disney Cruise (first cruise all together) and we are so looking forward to it.
I am new to the DIS boards and it is a little overwhelming. I look forward to learning tons of stuff.

Hello,

We would like to do the Fixh Extenders as well. We did that on the first Disney cruise we went on and the kids had a blast. I will be my daughters who are 11 and 14, my self and their Grandmother.

I wanted to check-in to say hello again. I'm Autumn, my hubby, Tracy and I will be cruising with our DD (8) neice (9). I lived in Galveston for college and know it well.

Hotel recommendation near port: Harbour House
Hotel recommendation near beach: San Luis

A restaurant we could meet at to welcome the ship into port or see it set sail around 9/22 would be Olympia Grill. It's a greek place with divine food. It's indoor/outdoor right on the ship channel. It has very good prices too. It's located on 21st street just north of the strand. Free parking with dining.

We are excited about this cruise...less than 7 months to go now!:cool1:

My company took us on a "field trip" to Galveston yesterday. We went to the Ocean Star Drilling Rig Museum, which was conveniently located right next to the cruise port. It was nice getting to see where everything was. . .I was more interested in seeing where the parking, etc. was than the museum.

Anyhow, afterwards they took us to the Olympia Grill. I had never been there before, but was familiar enough with the name to associate it with Greek food. I was happily surprised to find a variety of salads/seafood on the menu too. It was a good lunch and a great location. We were fortunate that the weather was pleasant enough to sit outside. After we went on a dolphin tour around the harbour. The cruise port itself wasn't too pretty - but we did see quite a few dolphins playing out there.

I have a spreadsheet that I check in the morning that counts down to our various upcoming trips. Looks like this one is down to 145 days now! It really feels like it's coming up fast. I can't wait. We have never cruised with DCL, but I've read that the ship is decorated beautifully for Christmas by Thanksgiving. I can't wait (did I say that already?) to see it in person.

We are also counting down to cruising Alaska again. 32 days until we head up to Seattle. While it is not a DCL cruise, we are very much looking forward to a break from the Texas heat.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

I've got my wisdom teeth taken out last Friday, and boy was that an experience. Anyway, I've been working on FE gifts whilst laid up, so decided to pop by the boards...
144 days and 312 days.
Did any of yall see the verandah promos? We're hoping they'll offer them next spring and we can upgrade our other cruise.

We will be doing the fish extenders, too! Our first cruise, as well (Disney, that is). There are 4 in our party, plus 4 friends next door! Can't wait! :-)

Hey! Did you ever tell Dagny your info? The current FE list is still pretty sparse...

:goodvibes
I guess I'm excited because I'm working on them though.

A little too much pintrest in my free time encourages me to get all crafty.

It is a small FE group. But that may make it more fun too. :)

Normally for our other (non Disney) cruises we make a few things to pass out at the meet & greets. However, this upcoming Alaska cruise - no one has really chatted. I mean, our thread never got off the first page for that cruise and we leave in 31 days. So, I didn't have the added fun of doing much for that cruise. It helped getting started on FE gifts for this cruise. It is more fun being able to use Disney themes vs generic. My DDs don't know about this cruise, so I've even started on their shirts - hiding them as I make them.

Ouch on the wisdom tooth. I hope you had a speedy recovery.

I'm curious - has anyone looked at excursions?

My DH had wanted the dunebuggy excursion in Costa Maya, but some of the reviews make the vehicles sound unsafe. So I'm back to square one with that port. I'd really like to see a Mayan ruin, but the time is so short.

Has anyone been there before and have suggestions?

We thought about doing a Mayan ruins tour but what with the Mayan "end of the world" December 2012 thing, we're wondering if they'll be less crazy if we wait to visit them in the spring.
:confused3

I just booked this cruise for my son (7) and myself. I am a single mom, so I'm a little nervous about cruising among so many families. Any other single parents out there who will be on board?

I'm not a single parent - but wanted to say :welcome:

Hmm, that is a good point. This may not be the time to visit a Mayan ruin. I was more concerned about the timing, as we won't be in Costa Maya that long. But being close to December, it could be more drama-filled. I had not even considered that possibility.

Thanks for the welcome! I am interested in excursion recommendations, too. I was thinking about doing the dolphin swim in Cozumel (we've been wanting to swim with dolphins for a long time), but I'm open to suggestions for the other two ports. It seemed like quite a few of the excursions excluded kids my son's age. How strict are they on age requirements? Will the system prevent you from booking the excursion if the child is too young. The thing is, he will turn 8 just one month after the cruise. If it is a height/size issue, he is over 50 inches tall, which makes him the size of the average 10 year old.

I've only been to Cozumel & Grand Cayman before - and only once each (last year). We did the dolphin trainer for a day program in Cozumel - and it was the highlight of our trip. This year my DH want to try the X-Rails. In Grand Cayman last year we did the pirate encounter. It was cute. This year I'd like to visit Boatswain and see the turtles.

We have never sailed with DCL before to know how strict they are about age. However, I know they are pretty strict at WDW, and I would think that principal would spill over in their other venues too. We have quite a few DCL veterans here, hopefully one will be able to answer this better.

I am having problems completing the attached document ... Not sure what to do, but don't want to be left out! Getting closer & more excited!

I am a single parent and this will be our 2nd cruise. We had so much fun the first time leaving from Florida we decided to go again close to home. We want to do the Fish Extenders too. How do I get a hold of the person in charge of the list. We did the Fish Extenders the first cruise and the girls had so much fun coming back in the evening to see what they had received. I am bring my DD13 and DD 11 plus my Mom. I have the room number and all too. Thanks for any info.
