Trip report from the first Galveston sailing

DH had 5 weeks left of work until this cruise!!!
(He's taking Thursday and Friday to chill.)

I work every other Friday - and luckily 11/16th is my scheduled Friday off. My DH has taken the day off so we can pick up the girls early from school and head down to The Galvez/Pleasure Pier. My DDs think we are spending the weekend in Galveston to celebrate their 9th birthday. They have asked if we can go by the port so they can wave at "Mickey Mouse's ship". I can't wait for them to find out we are actually going to sail with Captain Mickey. We all love cruising and we love Disney World - but this will be our first Disney cruise.

Okay. . .LOL. . .I'm getting excited, and yet now I have to get through a 9 hour work day! Ugh.

Hi guys this is my first post ever, even though I am a huge Disney fan with 7 cruises under my belt and over 24 trips to Disney world. I am not computer savoy at all and love the cute Disney attachments to your names. I have always been intimated by posting a question.

I have a DH that loves Disney once he gets there but doesn't get into the planning much, DS 18,DS 15, and DS 12.

My question for you guys is parking at the terminal. I hear some people have had their reservations cancelled. Does anyone have any answers?

The only parking place I've heard of that is no longer accepting Disney cruise customers is Galveston Park N Cruise. That was who I booked with, and they did cancel me. There are places spoken of highly on cruise critic - like EZ Parking, Lighthouse Parking and I've read some people are trying out BOI Valet.

This is our first cruise out of Galveston, so I'm not familiar with any of them first hand. I had initially chosen Galveston Park N Cruise due to their location.

I told my daughter that the FEs that I am working on are party favors for one of my friend's dd b-day party. She bought it. . When we head to Galveston, I am telling her that one of my friends that lives on the island wants us to come have lunch and needs to borrow our suitcases for a trip.

That is a great idea. I still need to split the FE stuff up by stateroom, but have been hesitant as I don't want to get caught - I may just borrow your cleverness.

We are so excitted the cruise is so close! The luggage tags came in the mail today. My daughter helped back the goodie bags for the FE. We also went and got flu shots just in case... we don't want to get sick while we are gone. We can't wait to see everyone!!!!

Oh man. I've not gotten a package yet. I got my flu shot last month. My DDs get their's this week. I need to urge my DH to get one. He had lung surgery about a year ago, would be nice to have shots out of the way to reduce his odds of catching anything.

Ok what are FE exchanges? We have never done a Disney cruise, what should I expect? What are the name tags people are talking about?

One person was making name tags - Dagny - but she is no longer on this cruise. I'm not sure if anyone else is making any.

Outside of everyone's stateroom is a fish - people who participate in the FE exchange will hang something on that fish so others can leave surprises in them during the cruise. We've never been on a DCL cruise, so I don't know firsthand - but it sounds like a lot of fun. Not everyone participates, so don't feel any pressure to do it. I'm sure someone will have a picture to share of their stateroom door so you can see the fish extenders and/or door decorations.

The stateroom doors are metal, so a lot of people decorate with magnets as well. We have magnets ready to go and a FE that I bought on ebay.

There isn't anyone in charge of the FE anymore. The person that was keeping track, etc. has had to cancel this cruise. So, personally - I don't know the status. HOpefully someone with more DCL knowledge will chime in.

I've nearly completed all the FE's for the kids. Should be able to finish the adults next weekend. Then it's time to pack, pack, pack! I can hardly wait!!

I've got them all done/bought. Just have been dragging my feet at breaking everything out by stateroom. I'm off Friday, my kids are not - hopefully I'll stop being lazy and get 'r done.

I agree. I'm okay with whatever works for everyone participating. I really need to get my stuff broken down so I can see if I have extras or not. I'm fairly sure I do - as I tended to over buy/make.

Anyone that is participating in the FE have a cut off time/date in mind? Or are you already done and need to consider it cut off so you can complete what you are sharing?
