That's what we were planning too, chanakanab in Cozumel all day. Have you been before. We were planning on doing it on our own. I didn't think about antibiotics. Can you get that without a prescription?

No, you must have a prescription for antibiotics. Especially for children, the dose is based on weight.

I will be talking to our pediatrician before we go anyways...Emma has asthma and the fall and winter triggers it. We're hoping she's fine when we travel. Our nebulizer will be with us just in case...

Chanakanab: we are booked for the dolphin encounter through Dolphin discovery. GC will be on our own...still undecided what beach to go to?

Getting closer. Way to go to Becky for offering up a hand to Denise.

And ladies - how great that you thought of antibiotics. And even greater that you have a GP that will write a prescription that will work for everyone. Anything that can be done to prevent a trip to sick bay it great. I always pack a first aid kit of sorts - band aids, bactine, aspirin/tylenol type pain reliever, Tums or Rolaids, that sort of general thing. And I am always sure to have our prescription meds plus some extra in case we get delayed during our trip. Getting stuck on the Magic - wouldn't that be a blast. Getting stuck in the airport, not so much.

I was just notifed we're "un-waitlisted" for 1st dining. (of course I had to contact them,to say hey, everybody is getting 1st dinner & we've been waitlisted for 18 months)
Now, no waiting til 8:00 to eat dinner with a 3 yr old.:cool1:

I am happy that all of you, or many of you anyway, that were wait listed for early dining have gotten it. To me, that means our cruise isn't all that crowded. In all my cruises, I have never seen as many get to early as I have on this one.

Just an FYI on the antibiotics - taking them without knowing what bacteria you are targeting is a HORRIBLE idea and the nurse that suggested it was acting irresponsibly. As a nurse myself I am all too aware of the consequences of antibiotic misuse. The biggest one being a c.difficile infection that results from antibiotic use. The other being antibiotic resistance which I'm sure you all have heard about. Your best bet is to suck it up and visit the ship's doctor if you have severe illness. Also, many cases or vomiting/diarrhea are actually viral and antibiotics will not help you - only harm you by killing off the good bacteria in your gut. Just my 2 cents....

This was a specialist travel nurse to whom I was speaking. She had our exact itinerary and knew where we would be traveling and what types of bacteria existed there. The antibiotic that she prescribed targets those particular bacteria. She then emailed me a long, detailed letter about our cruise, including many different safety tips and protocols for when to take the antibiotics and when to seek additional medical help. I do agree with your concern about antibiotic misuse and didn't mean to give the impression that a nurse just handed me a prescription when she heard that I was traveling.

Good. I feel better now. Just didn't want anyone getting hurt by self diagnosing/medicating.:flower3:

Any chance you want to share the other safety tips and protocols? I agree with you both, and assure you that we would not take something just for the heck of it.

I am curious if our cruise is full or not. Anyone know how to check? I booked forever ago and thought this one would be crazy crowded after the word got out.

To me, that means our cruise isn't all that crowded. In all my cruises, I have never seen as many get to early as I have on this one.

I think you're right about the crowd. Between the waiting-listing releases and the discounts that are starting to find their way over to our departure date. We knew military discounts were out there and then the airline ones came out this week. Hopefully some FL resident rates will show up soon, too!

I just searched our cruise for 2 adults/2 kids. There are a handful of 10's, 9's and 4's left (categories). No 8's, 7's or 6's. I didn;t bother w/11 & 12. Looks pretty full.

Do I still need to PM Denise for access to the website? Can someone allow me in? Pretty please w/a double dip on top?

Hello all! Just booked this as our 3rd Disney Cruise and am very excited! We got the military special so although we booked pretty late we still got a good deal!
Anyway I will be traveling with myself, DH, DS3 and DD12. I was wondering if any of you have a DD aged 10-13 who might be interested in chatting with my DD before hand so she has a ready made friend on th ship?

Also I've only ever sailed in May and I was curious what you all think of our chances with the weather. I'm a littel nervous about hurricane season. Plus we are currently stationed in England and are going to be in desperate need of some sunshine. 2 days at CC! I can't wait! :yay:

Well, I can't help you with the DD part. I have all boys 5,7,9. I have usually sailed in September and October and have had great weather. Knock on wood, we should have nice weather. Technically, hurricane season ends 11/30, so we'll be at the end of season. (I went thru Wilma in Miami which happened after "hurricane"season)

I'm longing for Castaway as well. We did the Double Dip I think in 2004 and it was great. The first stop at Castaway we spent if with the boys on the family beach. The last stop we were ready to have some alone time. We sent the boys to the kids program and we went to Serenity bay for lunch and cabana massage and hung out in the hammocks there.

Hello all - We are booked on this cruise but we've never done the DCL thingy. We are really quite excited to join in the fun. It will be me, DW and DD (7). How do we join all of the fun?

DD will love the FE, if i understand it right. Please point me in the right direction.

Look forward to meeting everyone.

Judy,

Thanks for the good weather report. That makes me feel better. :)

I've got so much running through my mind right now. The other two cruises we have been on (both eastern) I booked over 1 1/2 years out and spent a lot of time on these boards planning. I've only just booked this one and I feel so overwhelmed!:scared1:

I've got our airline tickets booked which were outrageous this time being that were in Europe. (those were more than the cruise)
I've booked our rental
2 days at the Radisson at the Port booked before the cruise
And travel insurance

I think thats all the major stuff now I'm trying to figure out when i'm going to try for Palo ressies and what excursions to do.
Oh and the packing list! Oh the stress! It's a good stress though :)

:welcome: to our crazy double dip!!! Please check out the link in my signature for a summary of the DIS group activities for the cruise. We have a spreadsheet and a website for the cruise. Hypermommy (Denise) has been handling them. But, she is really busy with work now, so I have volunteered to handle them for her right now. We're in the process of transitioning these to me, so please be patient. When I can access it all, I'll announce it on the board to have you PM me to get the links.

Makaylee, I have a DD who will be 11 on the cruise. But, we are keeping the cruise a surprise until we pull up to the ship, so I can't have her talk to anyone pre-cruise without spoiling the surprise. Let's have them get together during the Saturday DISMeet so that they can hang out together on the ship.

Becky, I just told my daughter she would have a friend to meet when she got on the ship and she gave me the 2 thumbs up. My daughter is really outgoing and if yours is anything like you I'm sure she'll be too. :) Can't wait. My DD's name is actually Makaylee and mine is Mamie.

Becky,
One of my granddaughters is 11, almost 12. I will check with her mom. I'm sure she would love to get to know your daughter early. This trip is a big family vacation.:cool1:

Excellent. My daughter's name is Emma, who is also very outgoing. She's a gymnast and loves Pokemon, playing Wii, and swimming.

Sounds great, Makaylee loves music, basketball and various video games. I don't think i'm going to let her bring her Nintendo DS on board though. :) Makaylee also loves swimming. I have a feeling she'll spend most of her time at the club or in the pool.
