We will NOT be on DDP this trip. We plan on going to MM for the F! package. DS will have just turned 10--do you think it will be possible for him to order off the kids menu--and have us pay for the kids menu? It's not a buffet, so we would be paying for what he eats--just not sure what the rule is.

Even though it is not a buffet, it is a package deal and I believe they will charge you the adult price for it. It doesn't hurt to ask, so I would call to book it and ask then.

Yes anyone can order off the childrens menu.

But as for the Fantasmic package - you are paying for the best seat tickets - so you pay the going price for the age - a 10 year old pays adult prices.

Our teen DD at Coral Reef - an ala cart TS, orders the Lobster Bisque soup off the adult menu and the children's entree with an adult dessert. Yes, we pay a bit less for her, but again, Coral Reef is ala cart pricing.

Ahh--what a pain. I guess I'll just ask and see what they say. It's funny--I hadn't really thought about it before because we have always gone on DDP, but the child's price for F! is more expensive than just buying the meal at MM--I had not expected that to be the case. It can be the case for an adult meal, depending on what you order, but there are several options where the ala carte charge for your meal is equal to the F! package.

I guess I never saw it as "paying" for the seat. I thought of it as Disney's way of ensuring you are eating at a TS restaurant at HS and at off peak hours. Now that I looked at the kid's price, it's annoying that they charge more than the kids menu price. It really shouldn't cost more than is possible to pay ala carte--the adult's price isn't. Oh well!

Don't forget that with the F! pkg, you get app, entree, dessert, and drink, so even if he doesn't eat a lot of his entree, maybe there's an app he would really like and a dessert to help fill him up.

I forgot! Sometimes they will give you an adult portion of something on the kids' menu. So, again, it won't hurt to ask once you're there. But the chicken parm is basically a chicken cutlet over spaghetti. Will he eat something like that?

I'm sure if he wants the kids food they would bring it for him - but if you are paying for the package, he is an adult and they'll charge adult prices. Buying a package is different from ordering a la carte off the menu. As noted, it is possible they will provide him with larger portions.

If it is upsetting for you or too expensive you don't need to do the package.
But since it is a package, and since he is an adult according to the rules, if you do the package you will pay the adult rate, as you should. The cutoff has to be somewhere. Whether 10 is the correct point or not is certainly debateable, but it is what it is.
Sorry

My son just turned 10 last week. He is a big boy at 120 lbs and can eat like a horse. I would order from the adult menu for him. However I have seen 10 year olds who were really small and in no way could eat from the adult menu. If it were ME and my child was small and didn't eat much at all, I would ask to order from the childs menu.

The rules are there and in most cases 10 year olds can probably eat what is given from the adult menu, but I do believe there are exceptions to every rule. Disney is not losing any money because they are serving less food for a lesser price on the childs menu. If you were getting adult food at a childs price, sure that becomes an issue.

IF he fits into that small category, I would simply explain to my server and ask. I think most would understand and not have a problem with it. Chances are, the money you save will just be spent in the parks elsewhere anyway, thus its still going to Disney whether you use it on food or a souvenir.

At most ts 10, 11 even 12 year olds can order off the restaurant.

For buffets and dinner packages (such as Fantasmic) 10 year olds will pay the adult price, even if they ask for a kids meal.

I feel your pain because we are paying adult DDP for dd 11 and dd 13 even though they will probably order chicken nugget kids meals at most ts restaurants!

We have sort of the same issue with my DD 13. She is extremely petite/picky/light eater, and has serious GI complications from chemo, so she will be ordering off the kid's menus at TS/CS locations. However, for buffets we will most likely have to pay adult price for her.
