10 year old and Rock-n-Roller Coaster?

We all got up the nerve to ride it last fall. Our DD was 10 but turned 11 in February. When it started I was thinking "what have I done". It was the first time we all asked one another if we were okay. She said she liked it after the initial shock of the start wore off but she still says she thought she was dying at the start. We have all agreed to not ride again. It was too much for me and my DH. As a reference, my DD LOVES Big Thunder, SDMT, and Space Mountain. My DH and I tolerate Space Mountain but love the other 2. We have not been on Everest yet. I want to do it this year but they are both chicken. Scared of heights mostly. My DD's friends however love them all!!!

"Thanks for riding the looper"
Hershey has some great coasters!

I find the worst part for anyone small is if your head is banging the sides of the shoulder harness.
If its a smooth ride or you fit higher up, no worries at all. get your head knocked around and even the best coaster fans are not happy
Yes, this is the exact problem I have with the ride, otherwise I'd like it more. I don't find it scary and I like the music.

As soon as my kids were tall enough to ride anything, it became their choice. I worried some, but didn't let them know that.

My son rode it when he was 5 1/2. It's really gentle for an upside down coaster. If she likes regular coasters, it will be fine for her to ride.

My 5-year-old went on California Screamin' (which has a fast start and goes upside down) 4 times at DLR and will definitely do Rockin Roller Coaster at HS next month. But my 8-year-old wouldn't be caught dead on either.

If she wants to ride, and she's tall enough, I don't see any reason why not. Remind her to keep her head back against the seat back, that will help with a lot of the head bouncing for adults and children alike.

RNRC is pretty tame, if you ask me. The launch is about the worst of it.

DD was about the same age during our trip in Feb - 1 month into being 11.

She waited in line, but when it came down to it, she decided she didn't want to ride. Which was fine with us. We did child swap and all was fine. To us, it was HER decision to make. She was old enough to know and/or deal with the consequences of her choice (having the be-jesus scared out of her, or not getting to experience the ride). She knows we'll eventually be back to vacation at WDW again, and she can try it then.

I think it's a personal preference. Our friends' son LOVES RNRC and has been riding it since he was just barely tall enough for it.

Personally, I can take it or leave it. It's fun, but I don't need to go over and over again. I leave that for ToT! ha ha! Seriously though, RNRC always makes my eyes water.

My daughter has been loving it since she was tall enough to ride.

How do you feel about your 10 year old riding RNRC? Our's will be almost 11yrs. old when we go. Hubby saids if she wants to ride, let her. I love the ride but I'm a little scared for her to ride. I think it might be to much for her. I guess I'm just over protective.:scared:

height matters not age.
is she's tall enough and wants to ride then what is there to be over protective about???

DS rode it at 9. He's not a big thrill ride person.

DD was so upset she couldn't ride it at 5. Next trip she will be tall enough and she's so excited. She gets on any ride she's allowed to ride. ToT is her favorite.

Now on EE I thought her eyes were literally going to pop out of her head. She was 5 and I rode with her. I was actually a bit nervous riding with her and I'm not usually the scared mom. But I glanced over and I freaked looking at her.

We got off and she wanted to ride it again....so we did! lol

Thanks everyone for your responses. Since she has been scared to go rollercoasters in the pass and now decided she will when we get there, I was a little worried. I will now try not to worry so much and if she wants to ride, she'll ride. And if she gets there and in line but decides no and wants to leave the line, we'll leave the line. Thanks again for sharing about your experiences. Really helped me :)

My 9 and 11 year olds have been riding it for a little while. They get into line and ride by themselves, while I wait near the giftshop with my little ones who are too short to ride.

Another vote for every kids is different. My five year old would ride any ride on the planet already. His sister.... ehhhhh.... not so much.

My daughter is 7 and is super tall for her age and will ride any coaster and has for about 2 years. . .even the huge adult ones at Six Flags.

The only ones that scare me are the old fashioned wooden ones that seem like you could fly right out. . . I'm trying to hold on to her the whole time and she's trying to raise her hands up in the air.

Our grandson first rode it at age 5. That being said our 10 year old granddaughter will have no part of it.

She said she liked it after the initial shock of the start wore off but she still says she thought she was dying at the start.

That's how I feel at the start, the pressure just gets to me. Same on CA Screamin'. It's especially difficult if I'm having an asthma day. I love the rest of Screamin', but not so much rock'n....

Because she normally doesn't like to ride rollercoasters. She seems to not like heights but said she is ready this trip.

Aha. Great info beyond the OP. :)

She's 10 and knows her mind better than she used to. it'll be OK.

DD rode it for the first time at 6yo, and loved it. The trip before, when she was 2 years younger, she was even terrified of BTMRR. Sometimes it just clicks all at once that there's nothing to be afraid of. If she wants to try it, I would definitely encourage her :)

Depends on the kiddo. Mine started with BTMRR at age 4. At 6.5, she was tall enough for the big kid coasters, and she absolutely loved it! We just remind her to keep her head back at the start, so she doesn't bang it.

(The only thing she's scared of is the Yeti at the end of Everest. She loves the ride but closes her eyes so the yeti can't get her!). :)
