10 things most first-timers don't know

I like to take my own laundry near the end of my visit. I take Purex sheets which go from washer to dryer!! Easy to take along. Don't forget the quarters...It cost $ 2.00 per load/per dry too. Take Peppermint lotion to rub on your feet before bed..ahhhh, how wonderful it feels and your feet will thank you the next morning:)

If you want to look at some WDW guidebooks you can get them from most local libraries. I just picked up Frommers and Fodors 2012 additions from my library yesterday.

If you are staying on site you can make room requests like 1st floor please or close to a certain pool. Most of my requests have been honored.

I'm not going to read through six pages to see if this has been posted, but that's not tea (at least not the last time I went), it's Nestea.

Nestea is to tea as Nescafe is to coffee.

I am pretty sure the sweet tea they are talking about is the Gold Peak Sweet Tea(those machines were you can change the flavor by just hitting the button). I still think that is nasty though. The only tea I like is freshly brewed.

If you are sleeping in a room with people you dont normally sleep with, bring along some foam earplugs..just in case.

If you are going to drink around the world inEpcot (or anywhere else), bring more money than you think. Figure $6 for beer minimum and around $10 for other drinks.

Take care of your feet. Even the Army knows this.

Dont ride Kali River Rapids right before dinner ADRs at Boma unless you have dry clothes with you.

Always have at least one Fastpass in your possession.

Dont do more than two commando days in a row. You will hit the wall.

Sleep.

Prepare.

Enjoy.

Take a picture of your KTTW card and photopass card.

Take a picture of your kids each morning before heading to the park. Just in case you get separated, you don't have to rely on memory about what they were wearing.

Pffffttt
The title of that list should be things most first timers don't know, because they didn't read the DIS boards before their trip. :rotfl:
I knew all those things, and then some, thanks to everyone here.:)

If you lose your KTTW at the park (typically because you forgot it in the fast pass machine) go to guest services and they can print you a new one. CM collect these as soon as they see them and it won't be at the fast pass machine anymore. It is a good idea to have a picture of you KTTW so you have the number and everything, but we were able to easily get a new one without it.

This fellow southerner agrees with you 100%. In fact, I responded about this very post earlier in the thread. The "sweet tea" in Disney World is just awful.

I guess I've learned a few of things about WDW. 1) Ear plugs are important for sleeping, but the foam ones just don't get it done. I have found silicone ear plugs work amazingly well. They cost about $5 at any Walgreen's and come in packs of about 10 or so. 2) If you have kids, pin trading is lots of fun; however it can get really expensive in the WDW stores. SOOOOOOO..... Go on ebay and buy a pack of 20 or so totally legit Disney starter pins for $15 and use those to start trading. The great thing about starter pins is that once you are in the parks, literally hundreds of the CMs MUST trade pins with you, regardless of the Disney pins you have. So, if you have an ugly, cheaper pin and see a CM with one you really like, ask them for a trade -- they ALWAYS say yes! It's a little something Disney does for guests.:thumbsup2 3) In the Florida heat, many a guest has felt the dizzying effects of a long day. Heat stroke can take anybody out, so stay hydrated and cool as you can. This means lots and lots of water -- all quick service vendors have it for free. In AK, at the Yak and Yeti, they give HUGE cups of ice cold water upon request. Don't be afraid of looking cheap when asking for water and nothing else. They get it all the time, as do all the other quick service places. 4) Speaking of the heat, bring a fan. Not the fans you use at church, but a battery operated water spritzing fan. It can solve a lot of heat problems. You can put some of the ice from your water into the fan and blow cold water on yourself during the hot walk around AK. These fans often have straps that can be hung around your neck. Yeah, you'll look like a total goober, but hey, it's WDW. And besides, you aren't trying to impress anybody. 5) Try to limit what you carry to what you can put in your pockets or around your neck. You will forget stuff if you don't, I promise. Buy a lanyard for your KTTW and you can also put your pins on it -- a win-win. Don't stress about losing your card. If that happens (unlikely) a replacement takes no time at all and your old one will be canceled right away. 6) Try to be patient. It's hard sometimes, when people are all around you pushing and it's hot and you're sweaty and the lady next to you has B.O. But if you blow a fuse you will regret it later. That 10 second tirade can ruin a whole day of touring -- if not the trip. Be better than the people pushing your buttons. They can't help how they were raised. When you go home from WDW you will be happier for it.;) 7) WDW is HUUUUUGGGGGGE. Take breaks. There is a ton of stuff going on around you at all times. Take a few minutes every hour to look around you. Just stop for a second and realize that you are at WDW and take in the sights, sounds and smells all around you. I have found that just about anybody you speak to is on the same high as you are. It's just a great time to be in such a happy place. 8) You will want to come back. That's just going to happen, so accept it. Go into your first trip knowing full well it won't be your last. 9) Be open to the Magic. People talk about it for a reason -- that Magic, I mean. It swarms all over you in WDW. It's in the arms of Minnie when she hugs you for a picture. It's in the heart of the man who lets your little girl get in front of him for the parade. You feel it when you walk down Main Street and see the Castle for the first time. It's a great feeling. It's a connection with people and characters around you, knowing that they feel what you are feeling and they love it just as much as you do. Cool stuff.:wizard: 10) Fast Pass. Learn it. Use it. Love it. Don't forget it. 11) The first time walking into WDW -- particularly MK is awesome. Try to remember that feeling because you only get it once and it has to last your whole lifetime. Well, that's 11 things for first-timers, so sue me.

We buy water offsite and take it to the parks, huge savings.

If switching from one resort to another, Disney will move you. They will take your bags and things from the refrigerator will be kept cold. Found out about this the hard way.

When shopping at DTD some stores give you a 10% discount for using a Disney Visa card. Must be a $50.00 purchase I think.

We try to do all our shopping for things we are sending home during one shopping trip. Have Disney ship it and if out of state, no sales tax. If something gets broke, they will replace it. We've had terrible luck placing items in our suitcases, too many times it gets broken. :cool1:

Those dinky little spritzing fans are AMAZING. I used the heck out of ours. Can recommend!:thumbsup2

Fastpasses are free!

I asked my piano student who went with her family during peak time if they used fastpasses....she said no because it costs extra! What???? Do they not watch that channel on TV? Doesn't Stacey still run non-stop about the parks. It seems like I saw a demo on the fastpass procedures over and over.

Bring zip-lock baggies for your phone, car keys and tickets for the water rides. You can get drenched on some of them.

From a CM get out your suitcase take out half of the clothes.. leave them at home. Fill the half empty space with cash!!! Believe me u will need it!!

You're right, it's the gift shop. I couldn't remember because I've never used that service, so I said "lobby" to cover all the bases. After all, the gift shop is usually in (or just off) the lobby. :)

Unless you're staying on the concierge level, in which case it will be at the concierge desk on your floor (or in your room). A poor gift shop CM at BC turned his storage room inside out before we figured out why our packages weren't there.

This amazes me. Makes me think we're all pretty smart by comparison. ;)

Sweet tea is available in many places, you simply must ask for it rather than look on the menu.

Water is free from any quick service meal location. And drinking it will help your vacation go better. Even if your five year old does have to pee every 15 minutes.

You must not be from the South, our sweet tea is more like diabetes in a cup :lmao:

- take a backpack. For me, it's easier to have some things in a backpack rather than holding a bag all day long

- bring a small hand towel from your hotel, we went in the middle of August and I was drenched in sweat until I started bringing a hand towel

- CM will take your pictures if you ask them, no matter where you are

- if you're buying the photopass, get your picture taken everywhere you can.

- if possible, save all the pictures/autographs with characters for a single day. This helps you get in as many rides as possible

- The dining plan worked at Planet Hollywood at downtown Disney

The disney stores have a cute string bag. We got one for my husband to carry. Much lighter and smaller than a backpack. It is just a drawstring top. I think it said Disney 2012. It seems like it was 20 bucks, but I can't remember for sure. We will for sure be using it again.

Thanks for the idea.... I love it! I just found Disney themed string bags on ebay that I ordered and they're much cheaper than on site. Then my kids can take part in carrying their own stuff ;)

OMG!!! Misting fans (or whatever you call them) in summer are a must for us!
