10 things most first-timers don't know

I would add "Be prepared to walk". Most first time visitors do not realize how much walking you actually do in all the parks. Also, drink lots of water, especially during the summer season.

1. Bring clothespins for the retractable clothesline in your resort room.
2. Fill a small ziploc baggie with rice and bring along just in case your cell phone gets wet during a water ride/pop up rain storm.
3. If you pack your bags days ahead of your trip, stand the bags straight up then, days later, see if there are any large gaps once the clothes have settled. If so, pack 1-2 rolls of paper towels in that space. They are lightweight, so they don't add much to your luggage weight and are also extremely handy to have if there is constant rain during your trip. Stuffing the insides of your wet sneakers with paper towels overnight leaves them virtually dry by the morning! (We go in August and often have rain soaked shoes. By the AM, they are dry!)
4. Pack an empty backpack in your luggage for each child. This way each has a bag to fill during their trip with souvenirs and goodies and it doesn't take up space in your main luggage.
5. When we arrive at our resort, we always empty one suitcase of clothing into the drawers and that suitcase becomes the dirty laundry suitcase. We bring a pop up hamper from home and at the end of every day, I fold the dirty laundry and put it in the suitcase. It's sort of reverse packing, but by the last day of our trip, our bags are packed and ready to go home! Also, I bring gallon sized ziploc baggies and pack the dirty socks/undies in there. This way they don't get too stinky! (PS--This sounds crazy, but as I'm zipping up the baggies, I kneel on them, which creates a condensed, air-free "space bag" type bag. Takes up a LOT less room in the suitcase!)
6. Take a pic of your parking section# in the airport parking lot with your cell phone.
7. Write your name, cell phone # and where you'll be staying on vacation on a post it. Take a pic of that info using every camera you're bringing. If you happen to lose your camera, hopefully someone will be kind enough to scroll through your pics and use the info to contact you.

The best time to go on rides at MK is during the 3pm parade. Lines are normally much smaller then. :goodvibes

Yea! But what time is the 3pm parade?

For families with small infants and small children, the services provided at the Baby Centers in each park are amazing.

6. Take a pic of your parking section# in the airport parking lot with your cell phone.

The new thing I've found to be more helpful when making sure I remember where my car is: I open up the Maps app on my iPhone and 'drop a pin' where my car is. At the end of the day, the pin shows exactly where my car is and shows me what what direction to go. Easy!

Hahaha! that is FUNNY!! So, did they yell "throw me something, Mister!"? I have to hide the beads from my kids and throw them out every once in awhile. I think every holiday parade in LA includes throwing beads. They add up after just a couple of parades! ;)

We went to the Mardi Gras parade at Universal Studios Orlando and we got TONS of beads, including buying two plastic bead necklaces. We got so many, we keep them in a vase.

I want to really read all of this through...but..

I was surprised at how interesting some of the "allegedly" boring attractions were, i.e., Paddlewheeler, Carousel of Progress, Spaceship Earth, Living in the Land, etc. I guess what I'm saying is, don't discount anything until you see it yourself.

My daughter was surprised to see Smucker's on the window in Mainstreet seeing how their main headquarters is 15 minutes from our house and her good friend from preschool is their granddaughter! She thought it was funny and couldn't understand why there name was there!

I was surprised there was no/very little gum, either.

Surprised to see each hometown on the CM's name badges, which is cool and how I met somebody from our area in little rural Ohio!

That taking the bus to MK from our resort was faster than driving.

That the people doing the Silhouette's in MK are awesome, they are a bargain and they learn how to do it in a couple of months.

To see mousekeeping riding into the resort parking areas on those limo-style golf carts! :)

They did yell at all the characters, trying like mad to get their attention. Bless their little hearts, lol. And we do normally take some beads with us to share with non-Louisiana people. Craziest thing, but people seem to love them.

If you are sleeping in a room with people you dont normally sleep with, bring along some foam earplugs..just in case.

If you are going to drink around the world inEpcot (or anywhere else), bring more money than you think. Figure $6 for beer minimum and around $10 for other drinks.

Take care of your feet. Even the Army knows this.

Dont ride Kali River Rapids right before dinner ADRs at Boma unless you have dry clothes with you.

Always have at least one Fastpass in your possession.

Dont do more than two commando days in a row. You will hit the wall.

Sleep.

Prepare.

Enjoy.

my ten things that first timers dont know are:-

1) FastPass can be your best friend, it dosnt cost... ive seen people try and put money in it before!! lol

2) The recreational activites avaliable on disney property (its more than just 4 theme parks)

3) EMH are very useful if you have young children and may want to avoid midday heat

4) Disney transportation is quite slow, allow traveltime to the parks in your plans

5) Their is no car park at the Magic Kingdom (you park at the TTC)

6) Disney has seasonal events which can overwhelm first time guests if they are not aware of the events

7) Disney only sells coke-cola company products

8) no chewwinggum anywhere on property, bring it with you

9) all disney workers are called cast members

10) disney water from the fountains tastes aweful... bring your own bottles, or ice and let it melt, ice cold water all day

10) Do you really want to pay $400/day/family of four for the dining plan???
And...

In no way shape or form is the dining plan $400 a day for a family of 4. We just paid for our DDP for 4 for 9 nights and it was nowhere near that price. The DDP actually saves us quite a few dollars and makes it a possibility to have wonderful EXPENSIVE meals that we would otherwise not be able to afford.

Exactly. Look at the chart. 2 of the 3 options are significantly less than $400 a day. And again, the TS meals that we are entitled to on the DDP will be well over what we paid had we paid in cash.

That all depends on which DDP you are on. As of right now my husband and I are on the deluxe dining plan for 2013, first time on the DDP! We did get free dining as a BB offer but upgraded for a little extra, still saving $600-$700 off the regular price. Anyways, if we were paying full price for the deluxe dining it would cost us $99.93/day/person.
