10 Questions from a Newbie!

A HUGE thank you to every single person who has replied so far. You are all fantastic. I knew I could count on you for some great information & opinions.
Special thanks to erikthewise and kmebee who answered all 10 questions.
Swillis, I am glad you found my post entertaining. I'd hate to bore anyone to sleep. I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip.
Cruislovin' Thanks for asking if anyone knows how to get discount Cirque tickets! Anyone know of a way to save $ on this one??
AllAboutPluto. Wish I could say my sad tale of whoa was not so, but unfortunately, it was very real. When I walked in the front door of my house about 15 minutes later, my mom took one look at me & said "You are as white as a ghost! What happened to you?" Not a fond memory to say the least.
Princessboogirl, you have given me hope to try out the rides. It sounds like you can relate to my Zipper experience but you love all Disney rides. OK, I'm gonna pretend Im on Fear Factor & try most of them (other than the few I've heard can tend to make one's stomach turn).
Any other comments??

When we saw the Cirque show a few years ago, we got our tickets through www.ticketmania.com , and saved a little bit of money, but I don't think that it was much. Check it out! :thumbsup2

I actually thought that it was pronouced "DIS" as in discussion....what do I know!

Ha! I guess you know about as much as I do!
Almost 1,000 posts and I've been calling it DIS as in discussion the whole time!! Oh wait.. lemme check... yep- this is my
1,000th post! Woohoo!! Cinderellie you should feel special!

btw- DW usually means "Dear Wife." People use WDW when talking about (walt) Disney World. So if you see DH- dear husband, DS- dear son, DD- dear daughter, you get the picture. For some real confusion hop on over to the Restaurant board: CS, TS, CRT, ugh. Still gets me confused!

Sorry I get distracted easily... back to the task at hand...

1. Tag fairy has been explained- yes they are in color and you don't get to choose them. You know you've been tagged when they are colored. People who have black ones just put that in themself (or ones like Mouseketeer and whatnot are standard issue according to the # of posts you have). Only the mysterious "tag fairy" knows how to change the colors. And I'm a Community Board junkie- I got all of mine there. She (or he... that'd be weird) usually picks a stupid or funny comment you made and then puts it in your "tag". If you're ever tagged- don't mess with the tag part of your profile or you could delete them (as some have found out the hard way).

2. I already addressed this, and I'm going to say it the way I want! :p

3. Not familiar w/ Fort Wilderness

4. Typhoon Lagoon for the nice beach, wave pool and lazy river- I personally think it has the best. More relaxing than BB, but if you're a thrill seeker, you might want BB. Kids also like BB better- I usually go w/ my mom (I'm 23) and we prefer the laid back atmosphere of Typhoon Lagoon (but dont' get me wrong- it has thrill slides too! and a shark tank..ooooooo).

5. I've always wanted to do Cirque Du Soleil! It's supposed to be amazing.

6. Just get another Fast Pass as soon as it says you can on your card. And make sure to grab one for your fav attraction (or one that has long lines- like Splash Mountain in the summer) as soon as you head into the park. We always run for Splash, ride it, grab a FP and head to Space Mountain.

7. There are stations at the front of the park for wrist bands- any Cast Member will direct you to them.

8. What's a Zipper?
My fav "thrill rides" are Rockin’ Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Mission Space and Space Mountain (if you call it a thrill :confused3 ). I really want to try Expedition Everest the next time I go. And under penalty of DEATH I will NEVER go on Dinosaur again. Ok, call me a wuss- but I'd rather be trapped in A Small World alone for two days. I'd say try all the rides, because hey, it's Disney and nothing can hurt you right? (except maybe that T-Rex :scared: )

9. Free? You are aware you're going to DISNEY right?

10. The mug souvie question is a hot topic here on the DISSSS (not Diz ;) ) and some re-use, some don't. It's "supposed" to be good only for the length of your stay. I love them- it's fun to collect them when you stay at different resorts and my mom uses hers every day for coffee. I won't say my opinion on re-using them, but just say, make your own decision on what you think is right. Some CM's will even specifically tell you you can reuse them, others will tell you no. :confused3

You're going to have SO much fun!!

Hi fellow Canadian!

Great thread, answered alot of my questions too!!

I have always called it "the Diz".

Keep them replies coming!

8. What's a Zipper?

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I don't think I have enough posts to link to my hosted pictures. The Zipper is only the greatest county fair canival ride of all time. Picture a ferris wheel, only make the wheel shape into a popcicle stick shape, make the cars completely caged and give them the added ability of also turning 360 degrees. Oh, and while the popcicle stick turns one direction, the cars are going around the popcicle stick (picture a chainsaw) in the opposite direction. And don't forget the added fear factor of being on a 15 yr old carnival ride! A thrill like you've never had before! :rotfl:

I had to read that four times to get the whole wheel = popsicle stick thing :rotfl2:

Ok I get it- and I've seen that before! Jeez... never been crazy enough to ride it though! :rotfl:

Hello fellow Canadian! You are going to have a great time :thumbsup2 Don't forget to check out the Canadian Pavillion at Epcot...every sterotype they could cram in there is there :goodvibes Lots of very expensive Roots stuff, too :teeth:

Most of your questions have been answered, but being a not-so-thrillseeker myself, I just wanted to comment on a few rides. Fear not the Test Track, Soarin', Big Thunder Railroad, or Kali River Rapids. Star Tours can make motion sick people (like me), well, sick, as I am sure you have heard so might Mission:Space. Splash Mountain has a big drop, but it's worth it. Rock 'n Roller coaster is one of the smoothest rides, but is intense...no noticable big drop, but some loops, and the initial 0 to 60 can suck the wind out of you. Loved it, but intense. I won't go near the Tower, I hate that drop feeling. Except for that, and Mission:Space, I've pretty much tried everything else. You can do it...common, you're Canadian, eh? ;)

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

1. (a/b) The Tag Fairy is a DIS member (or members) who change some members' tags - that blurb below your name over on the left. (b) You know you've been tagged if that text is different from the default or whatever you've changed it to. (c) Nope (d) NO idea, but I'd like to know too - thank you for asking :)
2. DIZ as in Disney (of course :))
3. That's two or two and a half questions, but - yes; no; and not necessary. The CMs can tell you where the ice dispensers are.
4. Three questions - Typhoon Lagoon: I burn easily and BB is much more 'reflecting' than TL, plus TL has Shark's Reef
5. Two questions (sorta :)) I don't recommend it, but that's just me. I've seen parts of Cirque du Soleil performances on television and it doesn't interest me. So, yes, MY money would go further somewhere else.
6. Five questions (NOT being critical, just keeping track for my 'total' to be posted at the end of this). (a) Insert your used-that-day-to-enter-parks pass in the FastPass dispenser. It will return your ticket AND a paper ticket with a one-hour or longer return time range. Return in that window (go off and do other things) and show these passes to the CM/Greeter. You'll be directed to a MUCH shorter line. (b/c) Yes, it's true. (d) No, there's no way around it, exactly. There MAY be one or more dispensers that aren't online with the rest of the park, so that machine will give you a FastPass without you having to wait until the "you can get another FastPass at..." time. (e) It's usually obvious where the dispensers are, and it's VERY obvious where you return (there'll be two lines or entrances next to/near each other, one marked FastPass return and one marked Standby).
7. Two :) For Morning EMH, you just need your Key to the World (aka room key) to prove you're eligible. Oh, and if your park passes aren't coded onto your KttW, you'll need thos as well. For the Evening EMH, yes, you need a wristband. Two hours before the park closes to the general public (until close to, if not the, end of the EMH) you bring your room keys and all members of your party to one of the several wristband locations around the park. Your card will be scanned (so cards can't be shared) and the CMs will attach the wristband/s to your respective wrists. 20.5
8. Four. I recommend all of them at least once. Not Disney, but I once rode the Fire & Ice coaster at Islands of Adventure entirely alone. Not just without travel companions, but there was NOBODY else on the ride. Would I do it again? Not in this lifetime - but I tried it, and I'm glad I did.
9. Darn darn darn! I can't answer this one :(
10. Not fair - that's not a question! But if anybody else has ocb, there were 25 or 25 and a half questions :teeth:

I'm not going to try and answer all your questions, since most are answered, but I will my recommendations!!
For Roller Coasters....love TOT, RNRR, Soarin, Mission Space, Test Track, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain I'll ride, but gives me a head ache., BTM, have not had the pleasure of Everest, but can't wait. Stay away from Star Wars and Body Wars, these are true motion rides and will get you sick. :furious:
Blizzard Beach vs Typhoon Lagoon......Typhoon Lagoon for several reasons, the wave pool, and shark reef, this is where you snorkel across a reef with fish and small sharks.

Welcome to the Dis boards

My dd12 wanted me to post & ask what being tagged be the tag fairy was all about, but I said if I asked that I would sound like a newbie for sure. It got me thinking – I AM a newbie. I might as well admit it. Hi. I am the mother of one great daughter. I am the wife of one fantastic husband. I am a newbie. And I am Canadian. !

Welcome to the boards! With that "great daughter" & "fantastic husband"...weren't you on Wheel of Fortune the other night?
Cause EVERYONE on Wheel of fortune has those same 2 things.

Cinderellie said:
....I figured out that DW means Disney World & it’s located in Florida all by myself..... I went to DW once as a teenager (but that was many years ago), and it is the first time for my hubby & daughter.!

WOW you are smart! I took me awhile to get what "DW" means! There are some postings on this board with so many acronyms, I havent a clue to what they are writing about. I think I remember you in DW from a few years ago!

Cinderellie said:
.Here is my list of 10 questions. If you are reading this (and you must be since you know that I am asking this of you) please answer at least one of my 10 questions. If anyone wants to see if they can score a perfect 10 out of 10, go for it & answer them all! OK Here goes:.!

Hey Cinderellie, being a newbie from Canada you sure ask alot of questions Lady! ;)

1. What is a tag fairy? How do you get tagged or know if you have been tagged? Have you ever been tagged? What do "Close Current Tag" and "Close All Tags" mean? (OK I guess those were at least 4 ?s technically, but let's count it as one, if anyone is counting.).!

As a "newbie" I really dont think you can handle the whole mysterious "Tag Fairy" thing just quite yet! All in good time my dear! As you can see, I haven't yet wrote anything so brilliant or hysterical that the elusive TF deemed appropriate to HIT ME UP with one! :guilty: Someday...Maybe..Who knows! I've been good!

2. Is DISBoard pronounced DIS as in discussion, or DIZ as in Disney?

This one is easy... I can honestly say it is pronouced the same as it is in my ID!

Cinderellie said:
3. Can you get ice for coolers at Fort Wilderness? Do you have to buy it (cost?) or is there somewhere you can get it cheaper or free?

Ice coolers in Fort Wilderness!!!....PHULEEEEEEEEASE this is America, we rough it up in Fort Wilderness! No Ice! No Fire! Thats the rules!

Cinderellie said:
4. Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach? Which do you recommend? Why??

I recommend TL!..nonono BB!...ahhhhhh TL! mmmmm BB! The one with the water is good! Why? cause its WET

Cinderellie said:
5. Do you recommend Cirque Du Soleil? For the 3 of us, it will cost $185 to $285 US depending on quality of seats. It seems like quite a lot for 2 hours or less of entertainment. People indicate it is amazing, but I wonder if this money would go further elsewhere???

THIS ONE I CAN REALLY REALLY REALLY ANSWER..I Loved Cirque Du Soleil! It was the most facsinating acrobatic/comedy/weird music/amazing show I ever saw. It is sort of a weird dream new age type experience, but WOW WOW WOW to watch. It altered my life and made me a better person! My nephew who was 11 thought it was crap!

6. How does the Fastpass system work? I’ve heard you can only get one Fastpass per person at a time? Is this true? Anyway around it or to use them to their fullest? Is it obvious where to get your Fastpasses for rides & where you go when you want to use them to get on the ride????

Fastpass is a highly skilled computer program designed by Disney Imagineers/Rhoade Scholars/MIT Doctorates...to stop us "quest' from whinning all day about :the liiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnesssss are tooooooooo loooooonnng! When you get down there go to any attraction that has FP, they will be at the front entrance of the attraction. The CM will tell you how it works. It is much easier to explain in person, then to write it out on this board. Really...YOU MUST USE FP!

7. We have tried to book our days at certain parks around when the Extra Magic Hours are (based on the Calendars on Disney’s website) as we are staying at Fort Wilderness and would love to access the parks with fewer crowds. Do you need a wrist band or something? If so, where & when do you get this? ????

Very Good!!! You only need the wristbands for the night time EMH's. There are locations throughout the park for these...again any CM will tell you where they are. Daytime EMH's no writband, only the hotel/ticket (credit card type thigamajiggy) will let you in. Personally EMH is one of the BIG reasons we stay onsite.
Enough with the "Fort Wilderness" already lady! It's not like you're staying at the Grand Floridian! You are getting all HOITY TOITY over it! geez!

8. What rides do you recommend? My husband loves all rides. The faster, scarier the better. However, I’ve always been a bit of a wuss (ever since I puked when my sister forced me to go on the Zipper at our local fair, because she came on the merry-go-round or something with me). That said, I’d like to try a few rides (roller coaster or 2 even) that are fun, thrilling, but not likely to give me a repeat performance of my Zipper days! Any suggestions? I’ve been warned not to go on Tower of Terror by someone who said they almost peed their pants & seriously wanted to get off half way through. How about Rockin’ Rollercoaster? Expedition Everest Coaster? Comments?

For your husband, I recommend EVERY RIDE! You ...are another story!!!
Try them all too...if you get scared close your eyes & just scream like a idiot. If you do this alot, and your husband don't divorce you after the trip. It means he really loves you. So think of this as not only a vacation, but a TEST of your husbands true love for you. Tell your daughter to stick with her father, he does sound like the "Fun" one!

9. Is there anywhere you can go fishing for free? (Not the excursions or renting boats… just daddy & his little girl putting their rods in the water off a dock). Are their any restrictions on bait? Do you need a fishing license or reservations??

Ahhhh thats nice...BUT NO! There is no such thing as FREE fishing in the US!
I think in all the post on all the topics on this board, You might be the first person ever to ask "Are their any restrictions on bait?" (hey sounds like a TAG to me...ya reading this TF)

Cinderellie said:
10. R R R R R R R R R R R R R R A A A A A A A A A A A …
Speaking of bait, that’s the sound of a can of worms opening up.
:cat: Cat’s go away (it’s not cat food). :fish: Hello fish!??

That is a little scary Newbie!!!!! :scared:

Cinderellie said:
My last question is, are the souvenir mugs only to be refilled for one visit at Disney, or can they be refilled on future trips? I have read the hilarious trip report by Zzub which discusses this in a most comical way. :rotfl2: What’s your view on this one? I’m sure we can get $12 worth of drinks at Fort Wilderness in a week, but in a lifetime, for sure!

OH Newbie Cinderellie from Canada....sooooooooo new....so naive!!! NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will get you SOOOO FLAMED SO FAST then bringing that subject up on these boards! It is equivilant to discussing HE WHOSE NAME MUST NEVER BE MENTIONED @ Hogwarts! It is a wise man (that is me with 700+ post) who tells you.....JUST SKIP over these kind of nasty post. It will only bring your "one great daughter" and "one fantastic husband" nothing but DISBOARD shame & mortification...Not to mention the whole country of Canada!

Have a GREAT TIME...and thanks for posting this so I could "Goofy" off at work and answer you!

Hi. Thank you to everyone for making me feel welcome. :grouphug:
Disunc & Kaytieeldr, you both gave me a good chuckle! Unfortunately, that wasn't me on Wheel of Fortune the other night. If it had been, I wouldn't be asking about free fishing or whether or not Cirque is worth the $ would I?? We'd go on the Fishing Excurssion & enjoy the show!
I would be very honoured if the tag fairy were to bestow a tag on me so early in my time at DISboards. However, I hope she will quote my edited question, and not the way I originally stated it. I went in & edited my original posting to change "Are their any restrictions on bait?" to "Are there any restrictions on bait?" Wish I could say that this spelling & usuage of "their" is the Canadian way, but it's not. I just made a boo boo - & I've heard there are English teachers reading these boards - hope they'll forgive me!

Karen, I definitely feel special that your 1000th posting was to a thread that I started. :cheer2: Congrats on reaching this milestone. I love your reply to my fishing question. I didn't think fishing would be free at Disney, but I heard breathing the air is free, so thought fishing might be the same. (My source on the free breathing thing is accurate, isn't it?)

AllAboutPluto - awesome explanation of the Zipper.
AlbertanMom - thanks for the link to the image.
Must say you both brought back terrible memories for me. However, this will give other readers a good understanding of the experience I will never forget.

My husband recently accused me of being addicted to these boards. I quickly agreed I probably am addicted to DISBoards. Then I realized most addicts are in denial. So I guess I couldn't be an addict or I wouldn't think I was. Make sense?? :rotfl2:

I'm off to my 12 step recovery meeting. Anyone want to join me?
Cinderellie.

Jeez! Wrong again!!! WHO have you been getting your information from?? :sad2: Each breath is 5 cents a piece up to 50 breaths, any additional breaths are 1 cent each for the length of your stay. You can buy a package deal though, just search for "Disney Unlimited Breathing Plan." Prices vary according to the season.

And wow, you're really not on the ball tonight- the DIS Addicts Anonymous meeting started at 8pm sharp! Did you get stuck in traffic or something? It's now 8:30!! :sad2:

You Welcome & Enjoy it here...Can be lots of FUN!

I NEVER said YOU WON on Wheel of Fortune! In fact the woman who had the wonderful daughter & perfect husband...LOST miserably. Quite a disgrace to her family. Spent all her meager winnings purchasing more vowels. Then, once "A-E-I-O-U" were already out, she went a bit crazed and starting making up new vowels. First time I ever seen Vanna walk away from the Board and smack a contestant!!!! ;)

Beware of the English teachers on this board, they are relentless at pointing out the errors of us lay peoples scribes!

The 12 step program doesn't kick in until you return from your WDW vacation and you FALL HARD! :guilty:
There once was a lady from Sheboygan, who went on a crime spree...shaken down little kids in the local Disney store for Disney dollars. :smokin: Sad, Sad very sad!

Have fun!

:firefight (gratuitus use of fireman smiley)

Andy
