10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

B
I understand we may be changing over to a new thread???? Please let me know when and what the new thread will be named.

We are going on a 3 day cruise on the Wonder in just about 10 days. We needed a Disney Cruise fix and we wanted to sail on the Wonder. So as a surprise birthday gift to DW and DGD I booked us this cruise.:dance3: Boy oh boy did I ever get the hugs and kisses from the both of them that day.

I think we are ok on the ready for a bit...but we will be sure to put a note when it changes.

Congrats on getting to do a 3 day soon - lucky you!!!! I am soooo ready to go again!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this - my family (Tinkermom3 and kids) and I will NOT be cruising with you.

Due to other vacations that we have planned, our kids' school schedules (the school district moved teacher conferences around since we booked), DW's possible work schedule (large training session at her job where she presents to a lot of folks), and the economy in general (I will likely get a very very small bonus in 2/2009), we had to make some changes.

We have a WDW trip planned for 12/18 - 12/23 this year that we just won't change. We had a Christmas WDW trip planned for 3 years ago, but had to cancel due to a life-altering health event that happened to DW. So canceling again is out of the question. We also have a WDW/Vero Beach trip planned for 7/2009. We are DVC members, and were able to get one of the beachfront cottages at Vero for 5 nights. Being the beach-loving people that we are, we couldn't pass that up. And since we're spending all that money GETTING to FL, we couldn't NOT go to WDW. We will try to do it on the cheap (staying offsite in another timeshare we have) but it's hard to do 5 days in WDW completely cheap. So the trip that had to give is the 10/2009 cruise.

Our plan was to get into the Tier 1 pricing for the 2/2010 cruises that went on sale last week. Well, if any of you priced out the 2010 Caribbean itineraries, you know there was not a bargain to be found. Within 5 minutes of when online booking started, the cost of a Cat 4 (what we are already in) was over $3000 more than what we paid. A Cat6/Cat11 combination cost over $2500 more. We have friends traveling with us in a Cat 7, and the price of that cabin had gone up $900 for 2 people. So, back to the drawing board - we had to do something to cut costs.

Apparently we weren't the only ones who thought 2010 pricing was ridiculous. The TA we were using couldn't believe the price increases. The Disboards had many threads (and continue to do) on the prices, and folks began looking at other cruise lines. On a whim, we decided to look at Royal Caribbean....

And that's where we ended up. We are now on the 2/6/2010 Eastern Caribbean sailing on their yet-to-be-launched Oasis of the Seas. We got a balcony stateroom and an inside room (5 in the party) for $625 more. Our friends are now in an unobstructed balcony room compared to their Cat 7 for actually $100 less (they booked DCL way after us). Yes, our costs went up. But yes, I also get to push the cruise into another "bonus year" and can pay it off in less than 3 months, which is important. It also stretches out our vacations a bit, and instead of wanting to go on another Disney vacation in early 2010 (like we would if we cruised in 10/2009), we will probably not go again until 10/2010 or 12/2010.

So, I hope you all have a great trip. This was very difficult. We loved the DCL Magic. We were able to get the same stateroom, and we felt we now knew the ship. Maybe we'll be back when they announce the new ships and itineraries...!

So sorry to see you go! But it is understandable - wishing you the best on your vacation!

Just wanted to drop ya a short note to let everyone know, that DW, DGD and I are cancelling this cruise as well. We too, are going on the Transatlantic Repo Cruise in April 2010. We have wanted to do one of these repo cruises for some time now. And, we thought this would be our best chance to go and also get to see some very nice ports along the way. We want to wish all you you good luck and Happy Sailings!!! Have a great time.

David, I think the date for your TA cruise in your sig is off by a year...

Enjoy your cruise.

Hi everyone,

Wow, people are dropping like flies! Sorry to see everyone go! I wish you all the best on your new vacations.

alleluia5-I went to Target yesterday and found some new FE gifts! I got to thinking that our cruise is close to Halloween, maybe we could do some reverse trick or treating ( really just the treating! ). I have a Target bag getting pretty full of little gifties! My sweet, stupid chocolate lab went sniffing around the bag this afternoon! She found the stash already! I told you she was stupid! There isn't anything meant to be edible! Speaking from experience, labs eat anything! I had to put it up out of ready! Once someone clues me in, I'll post a picture of my 3 labs! I have not figured out how to upload pictures to photobucket! Challenged in many ways!:rolleyes1

Can I share some good news for me?

:sad1: ......WOW!!! so sorry to see everyone go.... :( ...but I hope you all enjoy your other plans.

So I'm in for the FE and....what ever the other thing was..lol.
On our last trip our thread made treat bags for all the kids in the group for pirate nite and they loved it, so I think the whole FE thing is great!!!

It seems odd to actually get to post... I usually just grab a few minutes at work to take a peek so I don't get to far behide.

So I think when we make it to thread #2 ..It should diffently have name!!
Come on people lets think...

Yeah for me only one more day at work.... I LOVE working 4 10's
TTFN...:)

Come on share......:dance3:

Okay, are you ready? I'm doing the happy dance!:dance3:

We just booked the 4 day Wonder cruise the day after our cruise!

We had another dummy date booked and after the 2010 itineraries came out, we decided to take advantage of being on the east coast and do a back to back the cheap way! We didn't want to go to Europe and the prices were so expensive that we thought we use the 2nd deposit and then maybe try a different cruise line (:sad1: ) next time. We're all really excited! We did the 4 day for our first cruise and loved it! :woohoo:

Just passing through... and I thought we should say that we changed our reservation with the OBC from this sailing to the more expensive July 18th 2010 in Northern Europe to save the most with the OBC. THis does not mean we're NOT sailing with ya on this date - but it does mean we are not actually reserved anymore. We still plan on sailing in 2009 - and this remains our leading choice - but there is wiggle room since we're not actually paid and holding a cabin right now.

We will be embarking on that Princess Sapphire cruise this weekend - so when we return we'll revisit the question of rebooking this date for 2009. I know... we could have held this booking with new deposits without the OBC... but we were going to hold 2 reservations for 2010 - the July Northern voyage - and an April REPO... and that would have soaked up another $2400 in deposits or so my TA said. Adding new deposits for this October cruise ... and that's a lot to cough up with our investments so badly mauled in the current market... so in the end we ONLY booked for the July voyage - and nothing for April 2010 or October 2009. Litterially, we need to pause to save a little cash + See our investments come backa bit PLUS see who gets into the White House (and what they initially embark on doin in their initial months in office) before we recommitt to 10-10-2008 and/or committ to an alternate 2010 sailing transatlantic in April of 2010.

So - I feel better being honest about our evolving situation here.

Oh well.... sigh...:confused3

Congrats on getting your repo David! You and your girls should have a blast!

Take care!

Crash and TinksDH...

Congrats to you all as well.

I hope I didn't start a trend here!

Crash ... I'll let you know all about the Northern Baltic. I'm booked on the June 12 one. Looks like there are a lot of repo'ers (East and West) on that cruise!

Take Care all

and others. It is sad that we had to change plans, but the good thing is that we are still going on a cruise! Just not DCL... :sad1:

Hey, Mary thanks. I don't think you set a trend, it's just allot of us were really looking for the next Europe cruise by Disney, and we just couldn't pass up this great opportunity. DW and I have been reading everyone's report on their repo cruise and how much fun they had. And, we have wanted to do this for sometime now. We checked out the cost plus the airfare back and it ain't too bad!!! Not bad at all. We were really looking forward to meeting everyone on this cruise. Well, there is always the next one we can meet on!!!
Your cruise Mary looks like a great one. I hope you and your daughter have a great time. Until we meet again, Happy Trails All!!

Oh June 12th eh? That sounds really wonderful! Who knows with the uncertainty among various family members sailing with us we just might switch everything around again ... maybe even to June 12th? OK... more likely an April repo followed by a land tour on our own. At any rate....

OK...

Dog just got a bath...

Last nite at the soccer practice Julianna was walking our 100+ pound Samoyed around the park - with the dog occasionally pulling her as he chased the ducks ... when she sort of lost control ( duh... ) of him and our Sammy decided those darn ducks were EASY to catch if only he'd jump into the lake after them! Julianna kept mumbling "I'm soooo sorry Daddy..." and I sort of was silent as I walked our filthy dripping wet dog back to my Lexus thinking "... it's gonna SMELL of a wet dirty dog for days now... and from filthy POND water populated by a bunch of ducks!"... Well... I didn't have any serious words for Julianna as I told her if she HAD to let go of the leash to do so... and maybe I should have known better than to let her run off with our Samoyed where I was not near enough to help in a pinch.

So - being the evening - we kept the dog outside and now he just had his bath. He actually didn't look so bad BEFORE the bath - but the water went murky grey and was kind of yucky looking. At any rate - he had a double shampooing and a nice soak - followed by a little bit of conditioner and rinse. Now he's positively huggable - if not for the excessive shedding he goes through after every bath... or more so when he's dried AFTER a good bath. Maybe it would be a good thing to send him to a kennel now thatwe're about to be away for a week? Well... my sister is coming over to house sit and look after the dog - so with any luck this will be OK for just this short little week.

say ... look at that... my 10,000th posting!

Hey! Just catching up on the thread. We were on the Oct 11th Eastern Magic and now that it is over it is time to focus on next year.

I kept thinking as the cruise went on and I'd be a bit sad it was over....there is NEXT year. I certainly staves away the cruise blues.

Lots of people canceling! I sure hope we are not one of them. Unless something very unforeseen happens (like job loss or health) we are going to be on that ship!! :goodvibes

At least those canceling are doing so to go on other vacation options.

We thought about rebooking onboard for a 2010 date but were turned off by the prices. There is a chance we'll go ahead with 2010 if the prices drop or we get a great group rate from our TA...but we are thinking 2010 will most likely be a cruise on another line.

Just saying Hi!

Welcome back to the world of cooking your own meals and making your own beds... ;)

We also have no plans to cancel this cruise.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Nice to hear from you TexasGirl! How was your recent cruise? I'd love to hear details! We've never cruised in October before.

captaincrash-How's the drying process going? ;) Congrats on your 10,000th post!

Have a great day!!:flower3:

Love the idea! I am so impressed you are getting a good start on your FE gifts - I am thinking about what I want to do but thing mine may be half homemade and half "something else" - but its kind of a secret so you will all have to wait to see :rotfl2:

We have a chocolate lab - she is a nut! Definitely the goofball of the family so I know what you mean. Here she is in a rare snowfall we had earlier this year - she was eating the "mouth" DH made using dogfood on the snowman

As for how to post, I saw some really good instructions but basically you go to photobucket:

1) Click browse and find the photo on your computer
2) once it loads you can name it but it isn't required
3) when you get to the album view, click on the img code and it will copy it
4) paste that into your post and it should work

:sad1: ......WOW!!! so sorry to see everyone go.... :( ...but I hope you all enjoy your other plans.

I agree - we really need a thread name - what do y'all think?

Cute picture! I don't think I'd ever think of using dog food!:lmao:

Thanks for the instructions! I'll see if I can post a picture of my 4 legged fury kids! As far as the FE gift are concerned, I've just seen little things here and there and thought they would be cute for little ones! Since I teach Kindergarten, I buy a lot of goodies for rewards and our special activities-this kind of fits in that category! National 'Talk like a Pirate Day' was in September! We did a whole pirate day and the kids loved it!

I saw a thread yesterday on homemade FE gifts! Wow! I loved the Disney folding scrapbook thing! I wish I was that talented! Scrapbookers are the most creative people! I'm a buy it on e-bay scrapbooker! I have my cruise book all ready to go! Maybe I can work out one of the easier type homemade gifts! Michaels, here I come!:rolleyes1
